These types of adjustments that the smart crutch have are essential for people like me, with EDS that causes almost spontaneous dislocations / subluxations of numerous joints under often very little pressure. The fact that our soft tissue is too weak and stretchy to hold our joints in place means the muscles work twice as hard and the smart crutches are way better for how much effort it takes to use them as well. The adjustability also means that us who are prone to injuries of the hand and arm can adjust appropriately and still be able to mobilise somewhat comfortably.

Thanks! I’m thinking of buying smartcrutches because I have a connective tissue disease (EDS or HSD, not quite sure) and POTS because thanks to saline infusions I can now walk but it feels like stepping on legos

Good to know. I’m an amputee and a zebra looking for crutches. Definitely checking out the newest version of these.

The adjustable part is VITAL for people with EDS or fibromyalgia that need to change the angle or have a 90° angle. I prefer a 75° angle on most days. Thats why they dont just have an average.

I got these crutches back in winter 2012-2013 and they've only just given out on me now. They're awesome! I didn't think I'd use the adaptable arms but you know what, they come in handy (no pun intended) - one day you might be fine but the next you might be aching in your hands and wrists and just need the pressure off the areas. Instead of being immobile, I just make mine into what we call in the UK a gutter crutch by putting the arm rest at 90° to the shaft and the pressure is off but all the stability is still there. The only problems are that they are top-heavy and as such will fall down when you stand them up and the arm rests have a huge gap, but I believe you can get straps to go across there to close them off so they don't slide off your arms. I 100% recommend SmartCrutch to anyone, have been stopped in the street and spoken to a few people about them who've gone on to buy them. If you're thinking "should I purchase these?" just stop and do it, you will NOT regret doing so!

There is a perfectly good reason for the amount of adjustability on the top section. People like myself, who have one or two arms that more closely resemble broken bird wings, need a forearm rest that can go nearly horizontal.

This is perfect. I have been looking into these - I've been using a cane daily for the last couple months, but because of my terrible joints, I end up partially dislocating pretty much every joint from my left shoulder to fingertips because of it. This is made for folks with my exact problem, so I think this is what I'm going to get. (They're out of stock til March though, and idk what I'm going to do til then but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ) Thank you so much for this review ^^

Maybe each person has their own ideal angle? Shrug. But I agree it seems a little brittle. I want to try it though

Has anyone else had the problem with this crutch unexpectedly changing arm angle mid step? It only happens on the side of my missing leg, and for the life of me I can not figure out what I'm doing to cause this. I *really* want to be able to use these - they're so much more comfortable than the standard version, and is a life saver with my carpal tunnel. Anyone have a similar experience - and a solution?

I am a permanent crutch user. Now that you have had these smart crutches for awhile do you still feel that same? It looks like the arm cuffs are very large. I am a heavy abusive user of my crutches. Not fat but like i drop them, my service dog picks them up, take them to the water park and enter the pool kind of stuff. Before i spend the money do you still like them?

kither04 I've just posted a comment dude, but I'd say if you're still considering these then go for them man. They can take it all. I've thrown mine when I got really angry with my leg and seriously frustrated with my situation, gone skinny dipping with them, fallen countless times and they've only just given out on me after about 5 years of use so...let me know what you decide or have decided and how you're getting on with your decision. All the best, mate.
