Ireland and England met in Dublin for a game that would tell us whether their Six Nations was an abject failure or something to build on. So how did Ireland finish on a high, and was this Six Nations truly an abject failure for Eddie Jones?

Earls is a fantastic player. Jonny May talked before the game about how good he is as a winger, properly intelligent player who’s added so much to his game. Still playing some of his best rugby. Fitting that May was the one he burned for the try. Far from a snail!
@paul-scanlan
@paul-scanlan 3 жыл бұрын
Exactly, earls isn’t as athletic as he used to but he has managed to change his game from a run and jump type player to someone who uses intelligence to con defenders and make moves that can change the turn of the play. It’s seen here when he uses his body language to sell the lie he isn’t entering the back of the line out, hands on hips etc, but then he uses this shock to screw the England defence, I think if he was tackled by May it still would have been a try due to how well he was able to make the entire England defence do the opposite of what they should be doing

@@anthonyr587 I agree England were very ill-disciplined all tournament but if you watch the Ireland matches Tadgh Beirne has been doing that to every team. If you want a good example of him forcing a penalty watch the first two minutes of this video m.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l6hoZcmbqN6aimQ.html As for the other two, Wales and Scotland also got a lot of praise for their performances but the reason why people are having this reaction isn’t that they bet England but Ireland have one of the best squads in world rugby but have been underperforming constantly for 2 and a half years. This seems like a very important win for this side as everything clicked virtually every component of their game worked. Yes England are shite but Ireland could only play who are in front of them and if that performance wasn’t a fluke Ireland could go back to winning trophies again and be a top 3/4 team in the world.

England are in transition, im not sure whether EJ is the best choice but he seems to work in cycles. As shite as we are though, there is still a reason why England have been to 3 WC finals in the last 4 world cups or so, I wouldn't be shocked if we make changes and look like a different team next 6 nations. That said, I am focused on the lions tour now, I love the British & Irish players coming together like warriors and giving it a good go, think its really good for Rugby.

A few things I learned as an Ireland fan. After 2020 I worried that Andy Farrell's heart was really in it when it came to beating England, but I'm delighted to be proved wrong. Our pack was overwhelmed by England's in the Autumn Nations, but not this time, and the difference was Iain Henderson and the two Tadhgs. We're incredibly reliant on Jwhatchamacallit Sexthingummybob, who is 106 and I always worry this will be the game he goes off for his final head injury assessment. Beyond him, we've got Ross Byrne, who is the best goal kicker in Ireland but doesn't do much else, Billy Burns and Jack Carty, who both have the skills but not the arrogance you need to play out-half, and Joey Carbery, who looks more convincing than any of them but can't stay fit for more than 20 minutes. And Keith Earls is old, small and slow, and is still Ireland's best winger, and in his eyes you can see the same stone cold evil you can see in Roy Keane's.

Love the videos but not sure about the comments on Tom Curry. Had a quiet tournament at the breakdown admittedly, but most dominant tackles in the tournament (any player), most tackles for England and second most carries by an English forward (behind billy v so no surprises) is a pretty strong display of his ability. Also the Irish 8’s try is surely on Cowan dickie, who leaves his post at guard at the last second to contest a dead ruck on his own try line🤷🏽‍♂️

@jayparkerryan3262
@jayparkerryan3262 3 жыл бұрын
Was it the kind of performance they’re used to? No, but I’d say it’s an expected dip following a year and a half of dominance. They found themselves caught out in a similar manner Ireland did in 2019, figured out by opponents that had been gunning for them since the start of the tournament. England went into each game as favourites and always looked like they could still win those games no matter the scoreline. Add to that that this dip in form is an expected side effect of Eddie Jones’ intricate systems and I’d go so far as to say I wouldn’t want to play against England any time soon.
@jukeboxtimebomber
@jukeboxtimebomber 3 жыл бұрын
@@jayparkerryan3262 Thing is, mate, that’s a dozen or so below par performances on the trot (perhaps excluding the France game). Going into games as favourites, as you point out, and then losing proves the point, doesn’t it? The team responded and played well leading up to WC and simply haven’t done so in 17 or 18 months since. That’s not just a little blip, that’s a team that is habitually no longer responding to the coach or rising to the occasion.

They won the Autumn Nations cup with serious grit against France right? That may not have been a classic game but it certainly showed conviction from the players to fight it out. Ditto to the game they played this year. And yeah a couple of key players suffered a loss in form (Itoje and Curry come to mind), but the team as a whole never felt totally beaten to me. The Scottish game was just a single scorer and Wales had to pull off a hell of a performance to put them away. In terms of teams worldwide, I’d still definitely consider them top five
@jukeboxtimebomber
@jukeboxtimebomber 3 жыл бұрын
@@jayparkerryan3262 Dude, the French team in the Autumn nations cup was France's second string!! It was their B team and England (A team!) scraped past them in the last minute. Call is serious grit if you like but they squeezed past France B team. That's just a fact. And rewind 17 or 18 months, England were the same team as they are today but they were operating on a totally different level, hammering Australia, completely outplaying All Blacks. They haven't performed on that level since so there's no harm in asking why. That team on that level wouldn't have lost 3 games in this year's 6 Nations and finished below everyone except Italy It's been a clear decline and although I completely agree not to throw the baby out with the bathwater, and that getting rid of Eddie Jones isn't necessarily the right thing to do, you can't ignore that the same players have failed to consistently perform for 12 or 13 matches now, bar maybe one exception, so it's right to ask the question whether it's time to change. You need to be honest about the performances though, and not gloss over them. They haven't been good enough

Great video. Worth considering the comments from Conan about the earls try. They weren’t targeting Ford. They had picked out Curry defended at the front of the lineout v wales, with England running a double blocker in the lineout pods. So this meant Ireland should of had free ball for Conan. But he changed his position for this game. Lead to him competing but the move still worked as the back pod can’t turn fast enough.

This is him complementing us? A 17min video almost entirely about England and Jones "building" for their next phase and still secretly being the greatest rugby team in the world... while Ireland are mentioned only as a bunch of repetitive shitmongers who, every so often, manage to make rugby games so goddam awful that the opposition can't handle it and give up? And as for calling Earls a snail... 🤦‍♂️

I doubt it. . . The only good thing he had to say about Ireland was they make other teams play bad. He thinks Earls is extremely slow, and he failed to mention that Wales, the only team he reckons had a good game against Ireland, were playing against 14 men for most of the match. His analysis is good, but I don't think anyone could accuse him of liking Ireland based on this video. The video was basically about England

Give the guys in green some credit Squidge! I’m a big fan of your content and I use a lot of your insight to pick in form players for fantasy rugby (it would be cool to see you playing or creating a section about it) which I proudly ended 146th (my teams’ name also comes from a good old joke from your playbook on Camille Chat). But it truly takes out a lot of the pleasure every time you analyse Ireland games. Instead of praising the likes of Henshaw, Beirne and Furlong, which were undoubtedly amongst the best players of the tournament, you seriously focused more on a two phased “trap” for Johnny May (which imo is a ruck entirely composed of backs in which a centre, that could easily play as a forward, is contesting). The way England gave away penalties was completely overlooked and you spent most of the video mocking Curry and talking about the Ford-Farrell couple and Eddie Jones not deserving to be sacked after losing to all the home nations. I know as a Welshman it might hurt to admit that you didn’t deserve to win a 15v14 game, but Wales clearly didn’t play well. We get it, it’s funnier to mock players based on performance but do understand why we say you’re biased because you’re missing out on a lot of content! And yes Jabbly Sexwash was in a hell of a shape this six nations, it comes as no coincidence that when he was missing we lost to France by such a small margin, give him some credit too 😉

I think Ireland will win the 6 nations next year, the only team that beat them really fair and square were France, and even then 7 possible starting players were injured for that game, yes Wales were brilliant but if POM didn’t get a red card in that game then Ireland could of very easily won it, if they don’t get any stupid red cards and be lucky enough to keep their injury list in check, they could very easily win it grand slam or not

It's a great analysis again. The only concerning thing for me about England is thier lack of direction when teams work them out. The fact they are so reliant on those two 10s suggests Jones has only one way to play the game. They do have some genuinely great players so I wouldn't be worried if I were an England supporter.

Great analysis as always! Totally agree about Eddie Jones: any England fan calling for his sacking now either knows nothing about rugby or has amnesia. He'll build a new squad around some younger and some veteran players... Maybe we'll even see Sam Simmonds coming in as a super sub.

Thing is mate, there comes a time when players stop responding to the same tactics and coaching approach. There’s never harm in freshening up if the alternative is a good one. This is still a relatively young squad but with a lot of experience so to suggest the solution is to bring in new blood, whilst ignoring what’s clearly been a decline over 18 months, is easy to say but isn’t necessarily the smart thing to do. Why has there been a decline over 18 months ?
