If anything, World Rugby needs to embrace Squidge as an official partner in growing the game. The world is changing, as is how you reach new consumers and grow a brand. Like it or not, rugby is a brand as well as a sport. A brand that’ll die if it doesn’t grow. People will still play the sport, but the commercial side of the game will disappear and in a few years, world rugby will be scratching their head wondering what happened.

I’d actually say the opposite, I think it would be better if they just let creators do their own thing free from WR influence, it’s frankly criminal that they didn’t let anyone use any clips from the RWC, it will only kill an area which will undoubtedly do the most to grow the sport, look at football, etc. 90% of the content that is on the internet promoting the sport is just little content creators putting videos out, we need that “sector” as it were, WR can go get rodded if they don’t promote this frankly

@@bruhlewis9508 Agree with you. Being an "official partner" sounds good on ads and social media profile but being too embedded is the death of good sports journalism and media. Let creators do their thing while being as independent from the source as possible.

As an old gaffer I say that the commercialization of Rugby has done a lot of damage to the game. Rugby is supposed to be FUN. Profitability shouldn't be in the equation especially when it comes at the cost of fun. This has become a real problem because now the 'profit people' have taken control of the Lawmaking process.

@@rittherugger160 As an American who fell in love with rugby but grew up with NOTHING but a commercially driven American sports landscape, I am coming more and more to your position, fine KZfaqr. Some sports don't do well with money and I'm thinking that rugby may well be one of them. Ultimate Frisbee too, honestly.

@@BigBlack81 I too am an American. I was paying my way through college by coaching JV and varsity football when I found rugby in 1972. I'm guessing you're much younger than I am though. When I found the game it was 100% armature. Coaches couldn't even accept any profit off of any books they might write about the game. That was a bit too tight but now it seems that, higher up, nothing is done without a profit motive. It is done with profit in mind and making the game more fun to watch than to actually play.

This channel does more for World Rugby then World Rugby. I personally watched the first half of that video while it was still up and I thought, "wow so much work has gone into this." @@malteserwfj Squidgy's alright for a pasty pom who looks like he needs a good feed. Ive actually thought about starting a channel. Cause I always have takes and see things that aren't mentioned on other channels. All channels start out small. And I wouldn't mind putting my views on rugby out there and getting trolls like me blasting me in the comments. Sounds fun. But I'm not sure talking to a camera is my calling. More than likely I'll make rugby highlight videos for fun. Like Die Hard Rugby. I just got into editing. My plan is to have full videos of one particular skill. Like a full video of greatest side steps. Or a full video of greatest bump offs. Greatest offloads. Greatest chip kicks. Greatest goose steps. Greatest chasedowns. Greatest fends. And so on. Most just have a bit of everything in one video. I have many other video highlight ideas too.

I really enjoyed the use of the World Cup Retrospective pod, this year to cover the world cup as it happened. Frankly, I barely understand Rugby tactics, but this channel has not just analysed games that I've watched, but also given me the tools to begin analysing games myself. I used to think the kicking game was boring time wasting, but now I see it as a too and fro of picking weaknesses and attempts to make ground. This is true for so many parts of the game. This channel is so much more than telling me what happened in a game, instead it educates so that I can watch a game and come to those conclusions on my own. Thank you for all you do.

Thanks for everything. I watched Chasing the Sun the other day and was very glad to see you featured as well. I love rugby like most, and your contributions highlights the complexity of the strategies applied by the teams. Something that is not obvious by just watching the game. Thank you.

I have loved your videos (and watched them all, many multiple times) Please keep making more and do not worry about missing the odd game if the overall content is better and both of you are more enthusiastic

I obviously loved the old format, having watched from the first few videos, but I am extremely excited for the new direction you are both taking! Make sure you have fun with it, and especially don’t harm yourself for us, we will still be here ❤️

I’ve been watching your videos for quite some time. Basically since the beginning. As an American rugby fan. I’ve learned a lot about the game from your analysis. I’m really grateful for that. I hope you guys take the time you need and that you guys are able to reset how you need to. Looking forward to more great videos in the future.

@SquidgeRugby we understand. Could you perhaps at least put the transcript of your RWC 2023 final on KZfaq without the visuals? Or audio only version of video? The insights you gave in it were amazing and text alone would also be great!

Thanks for all your hard work Squidge & Will! As a fellow Welsh fan, your breakdown of (and over) the loss to Argentina at the world cup. It was the Antoine Dupont of podcast episodes and really helped me to share my grief with you both. I was in Berlin at the time where the audience for rugby games that don't feature England, New Zealand and Ireland is nill. Will miss your videos breaking down every game (I had to wait untl they came out until I understood what had happened in each game), but I'm excited to see more of your deep dives! If you could at least keep up the post-Wales loss autopsy episodes I'd be eternally grateful. Enjoy your time off! Hugh (That guy who caught the c-bomb in the Wales England game 2 years agol)
