lol the 45's look really unpractical haha. but this is actually a good product. this can actually be a great great product for a home gym. instead of buying 20 different dumbbells and having to find space for them. you buy two of these things, one Barbell and a bunch of weight plates. The plates can be used on both peices of equipment, genius

No specific brand in particular, just make sure the edges on both sides are 2 inches in diameter to fit Olympic plates, and that it they are long enough for loading heavy weights (6.5 inches wide is good).

Never as good as fixed dumbells though. You'll never max out on chest with these, or shoulders. You can't fling them up with your knees. And the grip isn't contoured which makes it a little harder. But getting into position is the biggest issue. Also only takes the plate to move 1mm to have an effect when you're maxing out.

I had a pair of these things and they are completely useless. Try doing an OHP with a couple of those things - never gonna happen ; they are between 40 and 45 cm long, so the bars are gonna hit each others ends before you can get to the lock out position. Bench press ? You have over 90 % chances to have the plates hitting your chest while you're lowering the bars, thus, preventing you from reaching adequate depth on the excentric. Even the bent over rows are impossible to do, if you want full range of motion ; especially if you want to do them with a challengeing weigth. Why do you think he mentioned partial reps when he put on the 45 lbs plates. Unless you load them with plates that do not exceed 2,5 kg and are pretty small, then they are a pure waste of money.

You couldn't splurge and get you a second adjustable dumbbell handle bro? I don't even make youtube money and I could get 2 to not look silly on vid doing everything one sided.

Shop online I am sure you can find. Make sure the handle edge is 2 inches diameter and about 6.5 inches long

get yourself scrap lead and make your own plates. Lead is 50% heavier, so less volume is needed and you can shape it easily which will allow you greater range of motion and precise weight. but this is obviously for home gym only and you should not throw the weight on the flor too much (or combine with few small steel plates)...

Milo Moran lol, 10kg won't cut it. Anyways, lead is toxic when inhaled or consumed. Everything can be toxic. Lead is heavily used and toxicity is mentioned in connection to food/liquid containers and lead in gas exhausts (that's why you have unleaded today). No worries that a 100 pound lead plate would cause you any harm...

Why not using thick bars instead? You can plug grips on anything.

For example check the Fat Gripz or Alpha Grips brand. You can choose the diameter you want to add to the dumbbell or barbell. It will increase your grip strength and help build stronger arms while protecting the wrist. Great bodybuilding tools. Thick bars were used by strongmen in the old time but its no longuer used because its cheaper to produce thin bars and more adapted for low strength people.

Oh that's what you mean. Yeah I'm a huge fan of thick bar work. The only issue with them is that you can't hit your back as hard. I would reserve axles or fat gripz for grip work.

Well if you want to try some nucleus overload bullshit you should already have them at home. I just don't find it convenient to drag all this equipment to the gym. Dipping belt, bands, adjustable dumbbells, microplates, squatting shoes,...

My backpack weighs over 20lbs and I still walk to the gym with it. If you drive, it's even more convenient.
