EPIC SURVIVAL AND WILDERNESS LIVING! I put the finishing touches on my bushcraft solo survival lean-to shelter by adding grass bedding and a front to shelter on all sides. I then cook trout I caught ice fishing in fresh rendered goat fat and maple sugar on a hovering grill given to me by a subscriber. I add pumpkin soup to the meal from my Native American garden, maple syrup I harvested from trees on the property last spring, pin cherry jam I collected last fall, and make masa corn flour cakes which is endemic to the area due to it's agricultural heritage.
- I will show you how to debone a trout!
- I will show you how to make easy pumpkin soup or pumpkin pie without a crust.
- I will show you how to hang a fire grill over an open fire for cooking.
- I will show you how to build a lean-to-structure with just materials in the woods without cordage.

Check out our 5 DAY SURVIVAL SERIES: • The Wilderness Living ...
It is important to keep in mind that building survival shelters are not to be elaborate in construction as this simple structure required many calories and much time to complete. Also, I needed tools and material. In fact, I used an entire spruce tree and dozens of cedars to put it together. The good thing is that I didn't need any cordage or other modern gear if you don't count the saw and axe I used which were not really needed anyway.

Not because i care about people knowing my name etc, but because i hope my story can help just one person. Also, I was born with spina bifida at the L3-4 level, which left me paralyzed from the waist down, so that's why I'm in a wheelchair. But I still find a way to do what I love to do. I may do things differently and it might take longer but I do what I love. Thank you again man, just so you know you have helped me by reading my story. I have had a few set backs in my trying to get healthier and lose weight which had me feeling more discouraged than I'd like to admit, but knowing that what I'm doing has had an effect on others has shown me that I can NOT give in and settle for less than I deserve in life. You showing me the impact my story had has given me the push I needed to get back on the horse and keep pushing. I had kinda slacked off on my diet (not pigging out just not being as careful as I should on the limiting my carbs etc), but tomorrow is a new day and I'm going to Crack down and start doing it right again. I once told a buddy we can't help the hand were dealt but if we get a bad hand we can beat a good hand if we have a good enough poker face. Well, I'm putting on my poker face and I'm gonna ride it out because the only hand I lose is the one I don't play. You lose 100% of the hands you fold. So I'm gonna get back at it and do what I need to. Thanks man, take care. BTW you're on my friends list on both of my Facebook pages, feel free to msg me anytime day or night.*

Carbs are really the enemy. You may want to look into fasting as well. You can't beat a bad diet. I think losing some weight will certainly make doing what you want to do easier. I have no idea what it's like to be in a wheel chair, so I won't try to pretend. If you can hit some weights with your upper body or whatever, that would be helpful. As heavy as you can manage and that will make you feel better too. Eating food is not the answer to emotional pain, it's really not, just makes things worse. I completely agree about making the best of a sh*t hand. In some way or other, everyone is playing with less than ideal cards. We must make the most of it. Think, someone else has a full house or royal flush and isn't even playing the whole game. Anyone can do better than that. Let me know how you make out over the next little while. Document your progress, stay on track.

Glacial Emperor man, I can't tell u how much it means to hear that what I've gone through has helped even one person. You're lucky in that you're young so you have more of ur life to enjoy vs a person who is like 60 and trying to get healthier. It's never too late but the sooner the better. If you're interested in seeing hunting and fishing and motivational stuff like this, feel free to check me out on Wheel Chair Outdoors on Facebook, and send me a friend request if you want. My profile pic is me holding a stringer with 14 frogs on it from yesterday lol. I try to put something motivational in every post on wco. Either way keep it up, we only have one life and life only 5% what happens to us and 95% how we respond to it! Everyone falls, the real men get back up.

Thanks Alvina. Just watched a couple of your videos. You're doing it right. Not just for health, but that's one thing, when you look good, your life stays together, people are nice to you, your husband treats you well. We so much ignore that it's this way, but people are shallow. It's hard, but it makes sense right. Being healthy all around means that people respect us. I know just being fit myself has helped my wife to see me in a way that she can't help but respect. I talk more about this at the end of the video. Keep going, keep fighting.

The Wooded Beardsman That is so true, 8 years ago I decided I could either stay in the hell that I was in or do something about it and stop putting up with bs from my abusive ex and move on with my life and lose the losers in my life who were dragging me down and live a life worth living. As soon as I decided to do that - a year later I met my amazing husband and my best friend. It's amazing how life happens that way! Thanks so much for watching!

I know I am watching these videos out of sequence, but that doesn't really matter. I'm also commenting on almost all of the videos as well, that doesn't really matter either. I am continually impressed by this guy's abilities at filming, at showing a survival skill set, his humor and his sincerity. I didn't pick up on some of that until this video, when he was reading someone's testimonial about struggling with life and trying not to break down. That was amazing to watch, good and sincere people are hard to find these days, especially the ability to be good and sincere to complete strangers.

Enjoyed the letter and your comments. I have been disabled for going on seven years from two injuries a month apart. Recovering has been a long road of surgeries and physical therapy. I am almost there, I think. Sometimes I’ve thought that and then had setbacks that can really take a toll on me physically and emotionally. This winter I have actually been able to get out and do some short snowshoe hikes, sometime I can’t walk for a couple days afterward but I was always an active person and can’t stand not being out. Keep up the videos Chris so those of us in this situation can enjoy nature through you and be inspired to get out when we can. Thanks.

The end of this video really got to me. I see a part of myself in that commenter. I watch these videos to kind of live vicariously through them. I've lived in the middle of Los Angeles all my life, and rarely get the chance to see our planet as it should be. I'm so afraid of failure and letting the people I love down, that I don't even try. It's so easy to let your body decay into nothing, letting depression eat you up inside. I have had depression since I was a child, told I would probably never grow out of it. I've gone through every treatment there is, from traditional medicine to medications or electroshock therapy. I'm 24 now, I've accepted that this is just a part of who I am. It's not going away. Some days I can't even get out of bed, I'm so anxious and in so much pain. I recently went on a trip to Germany (I'm from the US) and got a chance to see both historical sites as well as the middle of the black forest, and some of the Swiss alps. I never thought I'd have a chance to see that. I struggle with money, so to get to travel out of the concrete hell that is Los Angeles to such a beautiful and natural place... it woke up something inside me. I want to see the world and all it has to offer. Maybe I'll never be mentally healthy. Maybe I'll always be alone. But at least I can see all the amazing things this world has to offer and find purpose in that. This comment has been a lot of rambling, but I know other people can relate. You dont have to lay there and suffer pointlessly. You can take that suffering and do something productive, even if it's just something small.

The life advice towards the end of the video; Excellent words of wisdom, Sir. Your wise advice really hits home, and strikes a personal cord for me. "Poor loser" or sore loser is how I feel about the past me, blaming every "loss" on anything but my own actions, and ever ready to just "flip the table", give up and walk away. Since last Dec, I've set down to a proper "path", or way to live, so far so good. Anyway, I wanted you to know that the hard work you put in, is inspiring and appreciated. Thanks for your efforts.

Thank you so so much for sharing the conversation at the end of this video. I shared my story with you about my childhood cancer battle that dragged on for 15 years now I'm 31 and tho I live in chronic pain and depression I find that every single time I do a hunt or even take a mile or 2 walk in the woods it always renews my spirit. There truly is no better medication than a dose of getting out wetting a line camping ect. The most important thing I've learned in the 15 plus years of deep depression, multiple surgeries, and the feeling of worthlessness, you can not just stop living you have to keep trucking along. If you lay in bed feeling bad for youself and stop living life than you will literally die faster. So anyone in a bad situation or illness DON'T LET IT STOP YOU FROM TRULY LIVING. God bless you wood beard, Jeremy, kourtney, and Holden. You are all awesome human beings. P.s. how do people send you things? What is something you really use alot and always need? Plus I’m a woman and we KNOW we like to “share.” LOL 😆 I retired 4 years ago after a lifetime of struggles with arthritis. (Worked 22 years in healthcare.) Was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis at 7. I later was diagnosed with MS. I’ve also had 7 spinal surgeries, a total knee replacement, shoulder repair, hip repair, bilateral foot repairs. I have never quit. It’s hard most days. Some days I just can’t move, literally. BUT...I still...even as an older grandmother of four get out in the woods with my grandkids. Their parents work hard. (60-70 hrs week) So I try to teach my grands what I learn from shows like yours about how to forage, fish, garden (a lot of gardening and foraging). Whatever I can. I’m grateful for shows like this. I wish I could support you guys more financially but I’m single now (husband passed) and on a tight budget. Not that you ask or anything, not saying that, just wish I could. I just want anyone to know that they CAN do SOMETHING. Do what you can where you are. Every little bit you try matters. Everything is an opportunity to learn! When we stop learning we may as well curl up and die! I also believe getting kids involved is extremely important. Get them outside! MOVING!!! Just try something! Anything is better than nothing at all. I’ll hush now. I appreciate what you’re doing. Please keep it up. Stay well. ~Lisa

We grow these native corn.. bloody butcher ; Hopi blue; white, and yellow dent. We grind on stone mills to make corn meal . We keep it in freezer to keep germ fresh !! We get grits as well! After a year or two we get crossed ears of mixed colors! This corn is known as flint corn very hard it’s all good! Bloody butcher is local heirloom corn , when you feed turkeys this corn then through down gmo corn the turkeys will not eat the gmo!! Why we grow and produce much of our own food!! Love your videos !

I found the same thing. You either go off by yourself every so often, or try with kids, but more slowly! Hard to focus on fishing with kids, but other things work too, like building fires, making a meal or just tossing rocks in the lake or river. Take time for yourself though, if you need it.

I'm glad I stuck in there and watched the ending because that final story gave me a lot to think about as I have been feeling the exact same way over the passed month and a half. Unexplained pain in the hands, arms, chest, and upper abdomen. I'm seeing 3 different doctors with no answers except which organs are not causing problems. And as well, my thought process has been it must be caused by how I have treated my body in the past and how it's my own fault and there's nothing I can do about it. I'll save the rest of the details, but just wanted to say thanks for that and how it has shined a light on recovery and the possibility of getting back to my old self and out of this "shrinking" mindset. So thanks :-)

Wow, what a video! Been watching some of your content for a couple weeks now but damn this video has everything. Showing in depth work and skills, glancing over past work with quick descriptions, showed AND used new equipment that I have never seen, prepared and cooked a delicious camp meal with personally gathered/crafted foods, shared touching letters with an inspirational lesson, showed tricks on how to de-bone trout, and even showed a little wildlife on the corpse cam... absolutely stellar video that compiled the results of many other lessons and over 100 hours of work, and the results of which have truly came to light here. Keep up the great work, and I think it would be a great idea to make more of these videos that bring together ingredients that you have spent so much time preparing in their own videos to make a delicious camp meal with other skills before hand. obviously you cant make every video like this since you need videos of the preparation, but this is like a season finale after many videos to lead up to it(not chronologically, but from a content standpoint). Thanks for sharing your skills and work with us in such a wonderful form of content. Its rare to watch an hour long video that still seems so quick, not a second was wasted, perfect editing. Sincerely, an eagle scout that clearly needs to get back out in the woods.

Love your videos, keep up the good work. It's a pleasant surprise to see someone cooking over a fire in a similar traditional manner as the Native Americans did before the colonists introduced their European ways to them. Not many people realize how important it is to consume fat with the protein to maintain good health, especially in the winter. Cool cooking rack and suspension system for it; simple, light, and efficient. It sure beats the hell out of carving up a couple of sticks to get similar results. Although, I have to say, I'm kinda jealous of your big flat rock stove. Combining both the rock and the grill in a basecamp would almost be like a regular kitchen. Your "Easter egg" was the green handled Boreal 21 Saw hanging from the tree behind you, at time stamp 7:21, when you dropped the poles for building the front "tent" wall of the shelter.
