According to file system timestamps, Marie Brennan (then Marie Griffiths) recorded this beautiful setting of Psalm 45 toward the end of 2007.
There's a funny story about how we got this recording: Marie was telling us that she wrote a song when she was serving as a NET missionary (National Evangelization Teams - netusa.org/), and she and the ladies in her group used to sing it to the men. And so we asked if we could maybe hear it. So she took out her guitar and played the song for us in the front library of the St. Irenaeus Center - and luckily, swift-footed Todd Duncan, had hidden a recorder between a couple books.
Pat Fiorello (now Fr. Pat Fiorello, then a young audio engineer up visiting from the University of Hartford) did a little bit of post-processing on it (we first got Marie's permission, of course), and I ran it through a light reverb filter in Audacity (the sound quality of the original wasn't all that great) but what you hear in this video is basically Marie's off-the-cuff rendition from 2007.
The translation used is the Revised Standard Version, with minor modifications; I've set lyrics that are not in the Psalm in italics. And what a marvelous setting! How could any man hearing this not be stirred to struggle valiantly for Christ and his kingdom?
Thank you to Marie for giving me permission to share this! I told her it seemed like such a shame to have this beautiful music locked away on a hard drive when people could be using it to worship God. Her reply: "Well, how could I say no to that!"
