Sony Alpha: A1 Save/Load Settings (CAMSET) Camera Setup

Save all of your Sony A1 custom camera settings and memories to a single CAMSET file. This will enable you to set up a second camera in just a few seconds or restore your camera settings if the camera ever has to be initialised. Hi Mark, great video! Qu. Besides the fiddly dial, how can you switch between "self timer" and "single shot" quickly? I can't find a way to customise a button to do this. Previous A7RIII I could do this within the Fn.

@@AlphaCreativeSkills Hi Mark, I went to my local Sony Pro centre, they said I cannot programme the camera back to assign a button to Self Timer whilst the top left dial is not in Self Timer mode. I have been able to set the top left dial to Self Timer and use Recall Custom Hold to single shot, opposite to what i really wanted. In Recall Custom Hold there is no Self Timer option, it's not in Drive Mode.

I have had an A1 for awhile now, and love it. I didn't know I could save off the menus to my computer for backup. Will definitely do that today! QUESTION: My wife just go a 7R5. I would really like her menus to match my A1, so I can more easily help her in the field (and more easily use her camera when I have both cameras running). Is it possible to take that A1 menu file and load it on the 7R5, to get the menus to match? (I also have a 7R3 and 7R4, which could be the origin if the A1 is not possible)

Thank you for the video! Can I use a memory card that has data already on it or does it need to be an empty formatted card?

Hi Mark, About to organise an A1, just a quick question…if I load the A1 with 2 Type-A’s, can it be configured to write to slot 1 first, then, once full, starts writing to slot 2 ? As can only get 160Gb cards ATM, so rather than switching cards frequently, if it can write to one then the next one once the 1st is full, this would solve that issue.

Mark pleace tell me what is going on with image edge touch focusing? with a1 you have it. but i have sony a7c im lucky that there is touch focus function in movie mode (not all cameras have). i can use that movie mode to focus to my subject then i go back to still image and its on focus. but why they dont let me use touch focus direct from still images, the function is there so its not app or program problem. Thank you

The A1 is the first camera since the Camera Apps were removed years ago that enables you to touch focus using a mobile device. Let's hope future firmware updates rolls this functionality out to other cameras.

@@AlphaCreativeSkills i have to ask. can you test does a1 remote touch focus work if its connected to power bank or charger? i found that 7c touch focus are disabled then. i dont know if its setting or app problem?

I solved it. the fault was in the usb cable, with the sony cable it works.

Not always but if it is major Firmware update then the old CAMSET may not be able to be used.

I am trying to save/load settings from one a1 to another a1. Same firmware. The camera I want to load the settings to sees the settings file and when I hit load, it tells me "This file cannot be loaded". Is there something else I need to try?

Save your current settings on the new A1 and then just switch out the folder called ‘SONY’ (from the older camera) - I can provide support and guidance on my Patreon.com/markgaler support channel (where you can also download a 600-page eBook for your A1 camera).

Thanks for your insightful videos Mark. I do not understand Sony's approach to not saving in memory sets the state of the top RHS/LHS dials on A1/A9 models (or top RHS in other Sony Alphas) . They allow this via the API they released, so third party apps can now remotely set the shooting mode and/or drive mode (for stills) regardless of the physical position of the dials. I would think it would be easy for them to change the firmware and allow the user to control whether or not they want the states of the dials saved with the rest of the parameters in a camset. When the user loads a set, the states of the dials should be the ones recorded in the camset, and they should be updated (for the current session) when the user moves the dial(s).

CAMSET files on supplied via my Patreon.com/markgaler site but are specific to an individual camera model. The Save/Load Settings feature is not supported by the A9. Cameras with this feature include the A9II, A7RIV, A7SIII and A1

@@AlphaCreativeSkills But I have to over right the setting everytime I need to use photo or video? because im thinking in my upcoming trip to África and I will be taking this as my main video and photo camera... for example there is a cheetah running and I dont have time to load the setting again... is there any other way?

They cannot be loaded if the SONY folder is not in the correct place or you have updated your firmware since you saved your CAMSET

At 10min, reg cust shoot set, what does "AFON=ON" mean ? BBF ? You said you are using half shutter press instead of back button focus. What would happen if AFON was off ? What is exactly "tracking wide" in reg custom hol 1 ? when you are in wide, AF looks for something close to camera and puts some green squares on it. so "it tracks" arbitrary. What happens different in wide tracking mode because you have no focus point to press to acquire something to track

Im trying to do this from my settings of the A7SIII to the A1, but when I load the its says that the file dont exist... is not possible to do it from the a7S3 to the A1? Thanks!

Thanks for a good tip. Maybe you're showing this is because us Sony A1 owners need to reinstall our camera. Hopefully Sony has done an upgrade fix these major mistakes: 1. EVF black out in bright sun. 2. IBIS problems. 3. Battery drain.

@@AlphaCreativeSkills Thanks for answering. I hope Sony will acknowledge these errors, and create a firmware update. This is Sonys flagship model and it´s not looking good with these errors. I will personally not rely on the camera on a sunny day.

I have been informed that the Sony engineers are working to resolve these issues. I personally don’t experience any of these issues because of my own workarounds and workflows.

I have two A7Siii's and and A7iv, the Save/Load feature has NEVER worked no matter what I do. I can't find other people with the same issue. Does the card need to be formatted first? I cannot get this to work with any camera

You have to Save a CAMSET to set up the folder structure before replacing the SONY folder with one you are adding from another camera. The camera has to be the same camera running the same firmware, i.e., you can't load settings from your A7SIII to your A7IV

@@AlphaCreativeSkills yeah I’ve tried that I promise. Between the two a7siii’s I can save the Camset file but on the other camera it says “file does not exist.” It’s ok I’ve since setup the cameras manually but it’s a nuisance I could never get it to work.

Hi Mark, i loaded your camset and now I don't have a way of seeing the audio levels when recording video in video mode. It only shows when on 1 2 and 3 modes and I press the video record button. Help, please

It’s an issue with the Version 6 (V6) CAMSET. Audio levels are visible with the V5. I’ll release a V7 tomorrow to restore audio levels. I am unsure as to why they are not visible with V6 as the audio levels are listed as being On in the Audio Recording menu Shooting - Page 6.

nice tuto. Not 100% clear for me how to use your CAMSET on SD card under windows. I am using in slot 1 a Sandisk Extreme pro 300MB/s SD XCII V90 128GB. I am using windows pc. Previously I was using camset from Damien Bermal and i needed to copy a PRIVATE folder on my SD card. I have unzipped your camset under windows10 for A7iv and there is no PRIVATE folder. I see two folders _MACOSX (should i delete it ?) and SONY. Do i just copy SONY on my V90 card ? In SONY folder, I see a SETTING folder and .DS-Store file. Several .DS_Store files inside SETTING folder. Should i delete all of these DS_Store first ?

Yes you can - in fact you can keep more than one CAMSET file on a dedicated card such as Studio and Locations setups or setups for different users.

To save some frustration for some of you, I found that saving a CAMSET file on my A1 requires a freshly formatted SD card, it will not save on a card that has photos on it. This is not the case on my A7 IV, which can be saved on a card that does have photos on it.
