They aren’t at risk of being shut down or anything but they are close to losing control . If Final Shape doesn’t hit they are in trouble . Sony will be taking over their board and they’ll basically be making whatever Sony wants . I guess they would still have Marathon to rebound but still they would basically be at the mercy of Sony

That AAA bubble is bursting. Shareholders believing there's infinite growth in gaming is the biggest problem imo. There's no billions of gamers to go after, AAA gaming reached it's peak (don't matter if you expand to PC, just ask Xbox)

Btw one of "cancelled" never greenlit games was Twisted Metal which sucks. I think along with Factions with Twisted Metal would be a success. Per Jason S. "the game was in early development and wasn't yet greenlit, per source" BTW YES IM STILL PRO GAAS GAMES!

Media Molecule hasn't been shut down because every single one of their games have been critically acclaimed. That means that when they return to something with mass appeal like LBP they actually have a high chance of success.

London studios hasn't released anything Since Blood And Truth and Erica back in 2019 according to Wikipedia. They are also responsible for developing all the Singstar and Eye Toy shovelware titles back in the 2000s and 2010s. Oh! and they made Wonder book as well.😏

They need to keep their budgets under control. Spending over $200 million on a single game is far too high. Bloodborne had a budget of $50 million and Ghost of Tsushima had a budget in the $60 millions, and those games came out very well. PlayStation should try to reel in their game budgets going forward. We definitely need a roadmap of some sort in the future. I also think that closing some of their A and AA studios in the past was a mistake. Those studios had diverse genres of games that PlayStation could have taken advantage of.

Jim Ryan was the scapegoat for these "changes", bold of you to assume Hiroki won't implement his own set of "changes" and that the next CEO after they find one to replace Jim won't also have his own set of "changes". Hiroki has 2-5 studio closures in him 100%, MM, Bend, Firesprite, the GaaS studios and the mobile studios are on VERY thin ice from now on, you don't see nothing from them in the next showcase, they're as good as dead.

We're over halfway through the PS5 generation and it has been mid to poor. The big games like God of War, Spiderman, TLOU2, and Horizon were just sequels to games last generation. Whatever magic they had cooking in the PS4 generation has been lost and they need to start taking some risks while maintaining quality control and oversight.

There's a huge trend in the tech industry (not just gaming) where ppl are getting laid off left and right, but I have a feeling that the COVID thing (although it might play a part) is not the biggest contributing factor (COVID happened years ago at this point) but the rise of AI seems to be heavily correlated to these massive layoffs

No it’s really just the state of the game industry. This has been brewing for a long time . I know it probably seemed like things were all great these last couple years because we have got a lot of big games but the profit margins have shrunk to record lows in spite of sales in some cases hitting record highs.

I don’t think they are done. Sony is trying to start games as a service and many of those won’t make it. Don’t forget they have to make the books look good for investors. Keep in mind though when Xbox announced that 1900 jobs being laid off Sony knew what they was going to do…

Nintendo will not be next. They're literally printing money. They're the richest Japanese company when it comes to cash on hand. Their games don't cost as much as their competitors and Nintendo fans will buy anything they come out with doesn't matter the price. The issue is not about quality of games but the amount of profit the company makes from each console and games sold. Nintendo is king when it comes to profit margins.

The pro hasn’t been officially announced yet but according to most reports the plan is for a holiday launch later this year . Of coarse it’s still compatible. It’s still PS5 , just more powerful version . By all indications they expect to launch PS6 around 2028 , so this is just speculation but the earliest we’ll see it is the holiday season 2027. Have a good four more years of PS5

I mean, with Media Molecule, their games manage to do well and have positive reception, despite the infrequent gaps between releases. LittleBigPlanet 3 ended up being the best selling game in the series, 5.5 million units. May be an asterisk given that game was mainly developed by Sumo Digital and MM was an assistant studio on that game. Not sure how well Dreams sold, but I heard a lot of good things about that game with what you could make in that title.

@@admiralkaede Hasn't LBP always been platformers? Only difference is that the original 3 games were 2D Platformers while Sackboy: A Big Adventure was an isometric 3D Platformer. And I've played Sackboy, and it was a lot of fun. Especially with playing the game with a friend. Will have to get around to checking out Dreams. Though I did hear that they did plan on making Online Multiplayer but they cancelled it after they chose to end support for future updates, which is a shame. Considering what people are capable of creating in Dreams, that would've had a lot of potential for some interesting projects.

Disagree with London Studios. imo if they did not do the trendy cam/motion games in the PS3 era they would have made a game that another 1st party or 3rd party studio does better, the game would have failed and they would been shut down even sooner. SIE check boxes, they are not going to have all their studios make the same games or same kind of games. MM checks the creative box, sony have always been passionate about these kind of games. SSM and Insomniac, ND checks the epic blockbusters box. Bend checks the generic 3rd person shooter box. Everything else check the niche boxes (vr, mobile) and are the most expendable to SIE.

Nah I disagree with your horrible opinion. Sony London definitely had room to grow and THE GETAWAY franchise had a lot of potential. At least it was another option in the open world crime/gangster genre. Nowadays all we got is a f'ing monopoly with just GTA 5, GTA 5, and GTA 5, the genre has gone stale, boring & dry asf. If the Getaway series was still going, it couldve been a viable competitor to GTA and we would have more choices in the genre instead of just having the same single GTA 5 being recycled & milked dry for over a fxxxing decade

The Getaway would not stand a chance against GTA tho, the same way most shooters cant compete with COD. They would have been shut even sooner if they stood by the getaway.

@@zok310 No they wouldn't have shut down. The Getaway franchise can still coexist alongside GTA. Thats like saying that no other horror game besides Resident Evil can exist, yet we have tons of other amazing horror games on the market. Same with the fighting genre, we also have a very healthy selection of fighting games like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Tekken and many more. For you to say that you want GTA to be the only open world crime franchise on the market is idiotic as fxxk. Like why tf wouldnt you want more choices? You mf's dont get tired of playing the same decade-old outdated GTA 5 for almost 11 years? GTA 5 is as old as a dinosaur, how tf are you not sick of it by now? Only weirdos would fanboy for 1 franchise and not want other options. The logical consumer would want more choices & variety.......

Blood and Truth is amazing. Had they focused on porting classics like TLOU to PSVR and others they would have grown the PSVR userbase faster. Hell, they could have supported the Factions GAAS game. MediaMolecule is still alive because Dreams/or the technology behind Dreams is going to likely be a cornerstone of a lot of Sony’s AI developments.

You have no idea how heartbroken I am that this studio closed down that made one of the greatest games of all times which is The Getaway that can easily rival the GTA franchise....this is why I left PlayStation back in 2002 because of this game and I'll never go back to PlayStation ever again. So is anyone going to ask, how is it even possible that with the success of the PS5 to the point were people are now getting their hands on the system after 3 years and PS5 still broke?
