I think they should have updated the original rx100 with a touch screen, improved auto focus and newer menus/ jpegs. A basic modern model at $500-$650.

Look at the footage from 7:53 onwards to see how the metal tubes..."thing" in the background pulsates form the AF going in and out. We were all hoping Panasonic will catch up with Sony and Canon video AF, but for some mysterious reason, Sony started doing Pana AF... 😯

I bought this camera recently as a secondary daily camera to my A7IV. Today I took some pictures around my garden and was pleasantly surprised. Easy, quick to use.

I think you should have talked about and showed more examples of the stabilisation, it’s pretty awful in other videos I’ve seen. The loss of the optical part of the Z-V1 has had a hugely detrimental impact on the EIS.

They wish they were 5 years behind. They are probably 6-7 years behind Olympus, and that’s not exaggerated. Not sure how you can get that bad of an image stabilization with gyro data available

Hello, can you please follow up if this new zv1f camera has the same setup as original zv1 where you have to push c2 button for your video to be stabilized(but you loose wide angle cuz it crops), i don't have sony stabilized tripod and won't get one Thank you!

Can you change aperture/shutter/ISO off the touchscreen without menu diving or touching back physical buttons? That was a big complaint on the ZV-1 that was not addressed in this video. The new menu system is good, but it's not great if you have to reach around to the back of the camera and hit Fn or Menu every time you need to change a setting. Canon lets you touch the settings on your screen to adjust them.

Do you think the auto focus is good for someone who want to video stream building model kits? I'd like to have an overhead view where i can also pick up small pieces and bring it closer to lens so viewers can see the details on the pieces. Would this camera be good choice?

I have a few questions and I hope this is the place where you will see it. Just got mine last week and in S-log3, the lowest I can go on my ISO in video is 1000. Is there a reason for this? Is there a better profile I should use besides s log 3? I don't mind the color grading and such but curious.

I recently purchased the Sony ZV1F. I need some help with being able to adjust settings and recover audio in my files. My wife vlogged our trip through Switzerland but while replaying it it shows up in fast forward 50fps video. Please let me know if there are tips to recover.

There will never be an A7000, as Sony wants you to buy FF bodies. Fuji does APSC flagships, because they're stuck on XF (excluding the medium format halo products).

I need a camera to do vlogs but I'm feeling reluctant to purchase this camera because I'm not sure if my 2020 Asus laptop can be able to edit the footage given that it may require a powerful graphics card. For my purposes all I'm doing is filming in video mode, probably 30 minutes worth of content and then I'll be transferring it to my laptop and then I'll begin chopping out the stuff I don't want and keeping the stuff I do want. Do I need a powerful graphics card to be able to edit the footage taken from this camera?

Love the fixed lens aspect of it, I use rx100 and I have anxiety on the lens mechanism lifespan every time I turn it on and off.

RX100 lens mechanism fault is due to the lens ribbon cable being torn inside the camera, not because of the zooming or turning on or off, if you have a mk1 or 2 that is

Is it suited for me as an artist? I mostly film my hands. Can I see the screen as I film on a secondary screen like a phone or tablet? Can I film close enough for close up detail shots? And most important, can I lock the focus and lighting on my paper so it doesn’t focus on my hand or pencil and flicker the lighting as I move my hands in and out the screen?

A lot of vloggers will pitch this camera to be a perfect vlog camera and newbies will end up buying one. Although for newbies it might be just fine. I think market also has space for stuff that looks appealing to a certain section of the society where technical details might not be that important or where weight of the equipment is important.

It's impossible, however. The new menus are only available to cameras with the BIONZ XR processor. Sony managed to power on with an outdated chip from 2014 for all this time (they implemented the new processor only recently, starting with the A7SIII). The limitations of that chipset were pretty evident years ago, and now look pathetic.

Gerald Undone showed that it seems to lose in a lot of situations compared to the *front facing* cameras of smartphones, without even investigating the back facing primary cameras. Maybe y'all should do a deep dive into that and demonstrate how "certainly" this camera beats smartphones, and throw in the rear cameras for comparison too.

Not necessarily for image quality though. Mostly dynamic range and stabilization. Plus that was in the best of lighting. Once the light gets low iPhone falls apart. Just because of the sensor size. It really just depends on how you shoot, and how much you know. I've filmed great stuff with phones, but I still prefer to have a dedicated cam.

@@DarnelliAir Gerald Undone was just testing the front facing camera which does use an absolutely tiny sensor, and it still did better in terms of image quality outside of low light conditions. The rear sensor on the iPhone 14 Pro is enormous, much larger than even the 13 Pro sensor, so if you used that... yeah, I think the iPhone would be better in all conditions. The main downside there would be having no good way to see your screen, but people vlogged for years without having a flip around screen, it just takes a little practice.

@@coder543 yea overall it'd be easier. Zv1f would take a lot more work to achieve certain results. it's definitely personal preference for me. I hate most phone footage even when its good. Though when I use filmic pro I've achieved some surprising results on a few workout videos.

I think the focus breathing compensation would’ve helped this camera out a lot with the contrast detect AF. It wobbles to much, and is giving me a headache. 😂

For that sort of money you can get a used Panasonic G90 with a kit lens. Set it to manual focus on arms length and you have a way better deal

Missed opportunity to omit RAW photography here; I could see somebody who mainly shoots an RX100 VI or VII as a travel camera picking this up as a cheap way to go a bit wider at 20mm equivalent. Of course, as smartphones get better and better this whole category is rapidly becoming obsolete.

I really appreciate this review. Us wilderness types have some feature review requests... Water resistance, shock resistance, grit resistance, temperature performance. I like the idea of a cheaper camera...because can most of us really afford insurance or find insurance to cover a tumble down a snow bank with a GH6 or (heaven forbid) Nikkon Zed 9? You might consider a review of the best cameras for hikers and backpackers. I have been using my Otter Box encasied Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra for two yeats now. I would like something with a little more versatility that I can still take a tumble or suffer a snow storm with. Any thoughts?

No zoom No OIS or IBIS No PDAF, only contrast AF No integrated ND filter For 100usd more you have the proper ZV1, add an ultra wide adapter and voilà

lol not really. people found the zv-1 a bit pricey and also wanted just a wider lens. so shaving $250 and giving them a wider lens makes tons of sense in terms of sales.

Missed opportunity to not shoot in heif/heic and auto sync across to your phone. This is ‘the new jpeg’ and it would give you some of the extra dynamic range you lose with no raw. Inexcusable to not implement headphone profile over that USB C port.

@8:00: The AF is almost Panasonic-like, jumping to Chris or a bit to the background all the time. It is not that noticeable due to the large depth of field, but still that looks quite bad compared to how well Sony usually does.

This will be my close up, tight shot, cramped quarters "B" roll video camera. Quicker focus than my Canon Vixia G40. Yes, I will miss the headphone jack. There has to be a way to run the mic audio into some electronics where audio can be extracted for headphones. Clamp that circuit onto the tripod. I'll look into that. Last minute addition of threads to lens for filters..40 mm? 40.5 mm?? Wasn't a purchase killer. My camera arrives today. Amazon $537. Do you have snow up there yet? Dave in New Mexico 35 degrees.

Definitely for beginners and students priced for them. I would spend more and get a Nikon Z30 or the Sony ZV-E10 but this Sony model is targeted for the lower budget beginners. Which would be fine for them. Definitely a big step up from most phone cams though for usability and features in video. The sound from the camera is also good.

People didn't heard about BAT idea "Best alternative transaction" in this case that would be used canon m50 or Sony a6300, this camera is direct competitor will be iPhone or go pro so if you plan buying it just add 500usd budget to your new iPhone budget, create couple that kind of alternatives and those will work like cold shower. Do it before you buy new toy!!!

Camera manufacturers seem to make weird tradeoffs for vlogging cams... Sony, Nikon, Canon, Panasonic, none of them add IBIS to their vlogging camera, and until ZV-1F they all come with 24-70 equiv lens. This product is even more confusing, that Sony would really trade off phase detect autofocus... And at $499, it makes the Panasonic G100 look like a better choice, at only $100 more when on sale. On the other hand, the DJI OSMO pocket seems to be another competitive product, that has 20mm FOV, slightly smaller sensor, but way better image stabilization, and weather proof.

thank you for this i’m contemplating upgrading my current vlogging camera (VJIANGER 4K Digital Camera and I also use my iphone 13 pro max ) i would love to get off my phone and finally have more space, more options bc i have to delete to use all of my space for storage 😩🤦🏾♀️ it’s madness and i saw this camera come up in my feed on Amazon but know nothing about it. i searched here and you’re the first video to come up 🙌🏾 thank you again i think ill buy this one

The only camera that i will buy and use instead of my phone will be : A compact one , with a decent stabilization, if has fixed lens should be with decent focal length (like rx100vii) , If it is apsc shoul be with a decent stabilization. Or else i will keep using mobile phone (that nowadays have great cameras) and action cam (that nowadays have great stabilization and fps for slo-mo).

This image keeps bouncing, especially when you are walking . It's a very unstable image when (I'm guessing) the stabilization turned on. That's how it looks anyway.

It was going so well until Chris said JPEG ONLY… I really want something like Ricoh GR, but I just can’t stand the 28 mm equivalent. Why anyone hasn’t came up with something compact with 21-24 eq. lens? Or maybe they did and I’ve just missed it?

This actually feels like a camera I’d want. Just add a built in viewfinder and it’s close to a budget Ricoh GR. I could see this as a nice pocket camera

If I were you I would just use your phone camera, as long as it was released after 2015, you should be able to do 1080p and MAYBE 4k video. And if you have a passion for it, save up and buy a real camera down the line.

I wish they focus on the entry level Market, because that's what people are looking for. Look at zv e10 or the canon m50 , it's selling like crazy because the price is lower and performance is still good. They should be targeting that first time buyer or someone who is looking to switch from mobile to a camera for better quality

@@abhisheka2305 The Canon G7X MK II seems to be what you're looking for. If you want a bigger sensor there's the Ricoh GR IIIx, and Panasonic LX100 II. Otherwise, just buy a used a6000 or a5100 and pop a Samyang / Rokinon 35mm 2.8 tiny series lens on it. You're asking for a niche camera in a niche that's squeezed smaller every day by better and better cameras on smart phones.

I'd be interested if the lens was between 28mm and 40mm prime and it did raws. I enjoyed the original rx100 mk1 untill it died a few years ago. Sorry Sony but I want a $400-$550 1" compact rx style camera with the basics for photography and quick family/vacation video clips. I don't need every feature in the world and mega zoom at over $1000. Basically a hybrid between this and a Ricoh gr.

The imaging was surprisingly sharp. If the ZV-2 has 10 bit, 20 mm on the wide end, and this level of sharpness, it would be a great KZfaq camera.

They will not put 10 bit in the ZV1 series for maybe 5 years. It’s not even in the rx100 VII

@@marcust123 x100v isn’t much of a hybrid either. For stills it’s good but if I want to do video I’d get an xs10 or even an xe4.

Getting 4 minutes in and seeing the screen flipped out was a nice surprise. I was worried they would keep cost down by removing that. Seems like a great value, could see some people using it as a REALLY good webcam even for meetings.

This camera is intended for people who don't know, don't care, and just want to grab something under US$500 (a number suggested by Tony Northrup awhile back) in a Costco or Walmart store.
