Lupe Montiel es una líder comunitaria, escritora, cineasta y ex ejecutiva de la industria musical que actualmente reside en el South Bay del Condado de Los Angeles. Sounds of California: Boyle Heights (2020-2021) is a project led by the Alliance for California Traditional Arts (ACTA) in collaboration with the Community Power Collective and local residents to record, compose, present, and archive the local soundscape, focusing on themes of anti-displacement and belonging. The statewide Sounds of California initiative works in partnership with the leading Latino public radio network, Radio Bilingüe, and the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage.
