A tater tot is potatoes that are minced and formed into bite size nuggets with a binding agent like cornstarch or flour. They are made from potatoes that aren't the right size for french fries. No crop wastage. They are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside

A chicken fried steak probably has its origins from German and Austrian immigrants into Texas. The schnitzel is very similar except veal is used whereas a beef steak is used in a chicken fried steak.

What's really interesting about huckleberries is that they have never been successfully cultivated. All the huckleberries you eat were wild foraged deep in the back country, where all the things with big sharp teeth live. And antlers. Big ones.

Chicken fried is a way of coating (flour/egg dip/flour) the meat before frying. Chicken fried steak or chicken fried chicken with gravy is soooo good.

I'm from Maryland, and we don't let a summer go by without at least one crab feast. There are three basic ways we enjoy crabs: Steamed whole with Old Bay or some other spice seasoning, as crab cakes (which the video showed) and soft-shells (when they molt their shells) usually lightly breaded and sauteed or served as a sandwich. We also have a tomato based Maryland crab soup, filled with lump crab meat and vegetables. The other major seafood tradition here is oysters, which are served in a range of ways, from raw on the half shell to stews or even Thanksgiving stuffing. Any crab feast will likely also have sweet corn, cole slaw, and of course beer.

Chicken Fried Steak is a beef steak that is breaded and fried in chicken fat. If you fry it in anything else, like vegetable oil, it is Country Fried Steak.

I see a few comments about Chicken Fried Steak but they all miss one critical process that most places cannot do per health laws for serving food. You hammer out the steak to tenderize it as this was originally made with tougher unused cuts of beef. Then you bread it with the same combination of spices and flour as you would fried chicken. What is missed is that it was originally fried in chicken fat saved from other chicken dishes. Then it is covered in a white pepper sauce to spice it up a bit more. Done properly it is to die for.

Chicken Fried Steak is called that because the steak is breaded then fried like fried chicken. But it is beef although we have used deer meat as well. I was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts and NEW ENGLAND clam chowder is indeed he best. Not MANHATTAN clam chowder though. NECC is made with milk/cream whereas MCC is made with tomato soup/sauce/broth. The best way to eat NECC is with a small bit of butter and black pepper added. My sister was a supervisor a a steakhouse that served NECC. They threw away more than they sold. Managers were stumped why it didn't sell. My sister them to give a minute. She went into the kitchen and came back with two bowls of NECC. One without butter and pepper and the other with them. She had the managers taste them both no butter/ pepper first then then the other one. They could get over the difference. They started fixing it 'the correct way' and sales sky-rocketed.

It's steak that is breaded in a seasoned flour and pan fried like you would southern fried chicken, therefor it is chicken-fried ... steak. Get it? As opposed to chicken-fried chicken or chicken-fried pork. And to anyone unfamiliar, yes that is gravy ... country gravy ... which is a peppered milk gravy.

As someone from Delaware, I've never heard of that soup. If you are in Delaware you have to get the Bobbie, which is a sub with thanksgiving dinner in it. Shredded turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, and mayo.

I can corroborate! Bison burgers are fantastic! There was a startup fast-casual restaurant in my city that served bison-based dishes. It was wonderful. Unfortunately, COVID killed it.

Tater tots are like hashbrowns but formed into small cylindrical barrel shapes about 1 inch wide by 1 1/2 inch long. You either deep fry them or bake them, like in that "hot dish", which we just call tater tot casserole here in Alabama. Chicken fried steak is made with a thin cube steak(beef), usually pounded thin, then battered like you would do fried chicken, hence the name.

Bison is good. We went deer hunting back in the day and would fill our freezer for the winter. As a kid we caught trout for our family dinner. Most people today would starve if the supermarket closed.

Chicken fried steak is beef that is fried the same way as fried chicken. There is also chicken fried chicken which looks very similar and both would be topped with southern white gravy. Both are delicious. For deep dish pizza I’d tell you to at least try it. I’m not as big on thin crust pizza but deep dish is it’s own category and I normally would eat it with a fork and knife.

I am also a thin crust guy. I mean, I'm a pizza prude. I am turned off by pizzas with thick crusts, large edge crusts, skimpy toppings, not enough sauce... etc. As much as I love my thin or cracker crusts... a good Chicago deep dish pizza is awesome! Buttery crusts with lots of cheese and quality marinara are so yummy!

Just a suggestion but if you have any apple butter it is crazy good with any pork. At one time there was a place in Austin Tx that when you ordered a chicken fried steak it would cover your plate and covered with gravy with a pile of fries on top.... always enough to take part home.

I'm from Chicago and we prefer cracker crust (super thin) and cut into squares, AKA tavern style. The deep dish is for tourists.

The Hot Brown is fabulous...thank goodness, because I was snowed in at the Brown Hotel for 5 days(at one point, we had 28 inches in two hours). I ate a lot of them!

I’ve had pizza in Italy and it’s very different from your local or chain pizza place. The pizza in Rome had a thin crust, very little cheese and basil leaves were tossed on top.

Companies like Ore-Ida who make french fries had a lot of leftover bits when the fries were cut. Like a whole lot. Enough that it was a shame to waste so they collected all the bits and chipped them up and formed them into what are called tots and then they are fried. Quite popular here in the states.

I've seen a number of reactions of British people thinking clam chowder must be disgusting, but really, it's just potato soup with clams in it. Creamy and mild flavored, I'd say it's up there among the top comfort foods, and I'd think most of them would actually like it, if they'd try it.

Clam Chowder comes in two varieties: Creamy New England and tomato-based Manhattan style. Both are great. Lobster bisque, crab bisque, and seafood mix are several types of seafood soups. Crab bisque is usually prepared with a touch of Cognac. Maple syrup is delicious. It's great at breakfast served with pancakes or drizzled over bacon. There are several specialty foods found regionally throughout the States. In Pennsylvania, there is a breakfast food called "scrapple," which is sort of explanatory by the name. It is a concoction made close to haggis but made with mixed pork meat, fat, corn meal, and spices. It resembles a grayish pâte , which is sliced and fried in a skillet until brown and crispy on each side. It is served with eggs, breakfast potatoes, and topped with ketchup (optional). Another spicy breakfast meat is Taylor ham. It is sausage-shaped and sliced, fried, and served on an English muffin or any type of bread.

Chicago Deep Dish pizza, depending where you get it from does have a crunchy crust, but seeing how you said you like thin crust, then Chicago is also famous for thin crust "Tavern style" pizza. One or two slices of Deep Dish is all most people can eat. It also depends on the toppings.

Nebaraska has 3 famous dishes. Chili with Cinnamon Rolls (A Midwest thing), the Runza Sandwich (I prefer mine with cheese), and the classic Ruben Sandwich (personal favorite). New York claims this as their own and has tried to steal the Ruben because it is such a classic. Must give Blackstone Hotel in Omaha props for being the first to serve this Sandwich.

I'm a 4th generation native of Colorado and grew up eating Rocky Mountain Oysters and LOVE them. I now live in Tennessee and can't get them here. Boy do I miss them.

Here in Louisiana I know some people who are farming Bison and have had a pretty good supply of steaks and ground meat for a few years. The best way that I can describe it to you is that is the leanest, but most tender beef you've ever had in your life. It's nearly as lean as venison, but even more tender and beefy than the fattiest cut of beef that you can imagine.

You must not like French Toast if you don't like soggy bread. The Hot Brown has a similar texture though not nearly so soft, but of course is a savory dish.

I live in Arizona, and I would argue that the chimichanga is known more as the "state food" than the Sonoran hot dog. I guess I depends on who you ask. I hope you're staying cool this summer. It's very hot here in Phoenix today. Right now, it's just after 3 PM, and it's 47°C. It may get a little warmer before sunset.

I've lived in Minnesota for 21 years and I've never tried tater tot hotdish. It has too many things in it that I don't like. But a lot of people love it. Anyway, tater tots are like little hashbrowns. Minced potatoes. Fried. They are quite tasty.

Hello from Maine! If you love seafood, stopping in Maine is a must. As the video shows, our thing is lobster and I'm sure you will find many suggestions for "where to get the best lobster roll in Maine". Follow it up with a slice of warm wild Maine blueberry pie with ice cream on top. I know from one of your other videos listing top 10 most beautiful National Parks in the US, you really liked the looks of Maine's National Park - Acadia. Maine's coast is peppered with with rocky beaches, harbors and lighthouses but our state is also full of lakes, rivers and hiking trails, and shouldn't be discounted as perhaps the place to go to find some other adventures. Autumn here is absolutely gorgeous! Wildlife is abundant; moose being one of the most sought to view from outsiders. I live in Bangor, home of Stephen King. ~Rachelle

I'm partial to thin and crispy pizza myself but Chicago pizzas are true 50-70mm deep pie style with whole olives, mushrooms and 25mm sections of sausages and other toppings suspended in a matrix of cheese and sauce and 1 piece will fill most stomachs. Super heavy and delicious.

Michigan here Fudge is definitely a thing here but I would not call it the most iconic food. I would say it is either a Coney Dog which is chili cheese dog. I am not sure if the chili is different than in other places for chili dogs. Or pasties (PA-stie not Pay-stie which is a completely different thing haha) Pasties are a savory meat pie, fully enclosed in pastry, almost like a hand pie. These originally came from the Welsh miners into the Upper Pennisua. I believe that there is an area in Montana that is famous for pasties, again due to Welsh miners who immigrated there.

Everyone that's said Chicago deep dish pizza didn't look like something they'd enjoy always change their mind immediately when they actually have it. And yes, its more like a pie. It's very hearty, so when its below zero a big slice for dinner is great. If you ever get to go to Chicago, definitely seek out Italian Beef sandwich as well. I lived most of my life in the Chicago area and we just moved to Alabama and we cant find ANY good pizza here, and no one sells Italian beef sandwiches, hot dog stands are also unheard of, and gyros is also not easy to find here. Chicago is so culturally diverse that you can get amazing foods from all over the world there....not so much now for us as we are homesteading out in the country and the nearest 'big city' is about an hour away and about a fourth of the size of Chicago.

Apizza in CT - Frank Pepe, Modern but Sally's Apizza is the best in my opinion! They are all in the same area. I'm in NH and suggest that any of the above 3 is the best pizza ever.

Almost a Colorado native here. Was born in CA and moved here when 2 yrs old. I have had rocky mountain oysters once and i was nearly 50 when I finally tried them. They were good, but not something I would eat again. Had them in small town 40 miles north of Denver in a little dive that specialized in them. I would say that most Coloradans have never eaten them before, but they always end up on list about Colorado and I don't know why.
