The first Spider-Man movie game might've aged badly, but it still has an incredible amount of bonus content even by today's standards. The unlockable Green Goblin mode with a rewritten story, Spider-Bowling, cheat codes that could let you play as any random character (which led to later versions patching out the MJ skin to prevent two MJs from kissing in the final cutscene), and even the ability to fight Generic Luchador Bonesaw as a hidden boss in the survival mode.

The movie game is basically the most refined version of the PS1 games. The redone web swinging make air battles really fun and they completely refine the combat system. Plus this game is packed with secret content and bonuses. It's not as good as SM2 but it's still pretty great.

I remember this one mission where a fragment of a pillar is supposed to fall on top of a guy if you don't save him in time. I would always shoot and sling myself over to that pillar and wait for the failure cutscene so I could see Spider-Man, still attached, fall with the pillar and get crushed in an in-game cutscene.

Being born in 1998, I was VERY young when this movie came out. I can’t explain the impact it had on my life. Was the first hero movie I ever saw and is my earliest memory of going to a theater. Definitely made me the comic and film loving nerd i am today. I loved this game as little kid and while it’s obviously not good, the memories I have makes me still love it. It was even this game that made me love video games too.
@whatoncewaslove5 жыл бұрын
I was born in ‘97, I definitely relate. This was the first film I remember seeing in theaters, and it blew me away. Also loved the sequel when it came out, these films and games by extension had a big impact on me. Spider-Man 2 is obviously the superior game and film, in like every way, but I’ve always loved the original a little more. The game is undoubtedly bad, but it was my first ps2 game, before that I had Spyro 2. A bit different obviously, but I was immediately drawn to anything Spider-Man related as a kid, like a lot of children. I really loved this damn game.
@joeywalker20615 жыл бұрын
Spiderman 1 and 2 were some of the first movies I remember seeing too. We honestly were spoiled compared to the crap they release today. The superhero movies they make today take no real imagination they just throw 30 superheroes together and hope people will love it and it works. I miss when superhero movies had a contained universe. Like xmen is one universe spiderman was one it universe you know what I mean? The writers took more time and effort to write a good story for the one superhero they wanted to write about. Spiderman 2 basically set the standard for how to do a serious comic book movie.

I can relate to that. I was born in 1999 and the original Spiderman trilogy had huge impact on me. Some of the first movies I saw with genuine interest and love. For videogames Spiderman 2 on my PS2 was one of my favorite games. I didn't turned me into a comic book fan though (I ended up in the weeb side of nerdiness)

When I saw gamplay of the Uncle Ben killer section on the Spider-Man DVD special features, I was always like "Wait... There was an ENTIRE gang, yet the boss was the only one to do the score?!" I don't think Spider-Man ever threw a Boom Box at anyone, then again haven't read an 80s or 90s Spider-Man comic in a decade lol (And yes, Shocker has been in nearly every game besides TASM 1 and Spider-Man: Friend or Foe, I legit almost forgot about it.)

The plastic face I think was because William Dafoe wanted to do his own stunts, so they made that suit for him. I mean, I like that he was enthusiastic about it, but c’mon! That suit was awesome! Also, lets not forget the movie design by Alex Ross, that shit was Uber creepy.

DAMN YOU SHOCKER! SHOOOOCKERRRR
@Wol14275 жыл бұрын
The reason why you have a web meter is because originally the movie was supposed to have Peter use web shooters, but Sam Raimi and the production crew decided on organic webbing instead. So when making a video game about a movie, a lot of things about the film can change over time, so instead of trying to change the web meter on the fly, they instead added the cheat code where you type in "Organic Webbing" you'll have infinite webbing just like the movie.
@ShadowBlazer30005 жыл бұрын
Fun fact the idea of organic webbing instead of carts was in an early draft by James Cameron! Not sure if they read that draft and said "well okay let's use that at least" or if they just thought along the same lines. Though Cameron's spec script is really weird.
@animekid90005 жыл бұрын
@@ShadowBlazer3000 It's because the first draft of the Raimi was the Cameron script. David Koepp was hired to rewrite it and his version was effectively the same as Cameron's, even having sections one to one, just toned down and Koepp-fied. The next draft was more similar to the final film but it kept the two villain combo of the Cameron script, using Doc Ock and the Green Goblin. After that, as far as I can tell, Raimi refined it down to just one to focus more on Norman Osborn being a father figure to Peter.
@ShadowBlazer30005 жыл бұрын
interesting, I wasn't entirely sure about that, as I think there were quite a few specs floating around at the time of production.
@animekid90005 жыл бұрын
@@ShadowBlazer3000 I don't recall any other spec scripts regarding the Raimi one, you might be thinking of the 90s/Cameron production. Oh and here is the Green Goblin/Doc Ock script I mentioned www.dailyscript.com/scripts/spider_man_koepp.html

It was also that the movie game was originally just going to be a port of the ps1 Spider-Man game by Neversoft, which used web meters and cartridges, then Activision acquired the contract for a tie in to the Raimi Spider-Man movie and made the game based off that port.

7:36-7:48 I heard there was a what-if story about that actually.... 8:54-9:02 Sad, but true. 11:13-11:30 It might take some time for his body to produce the organic webbing... 12:36-12:45 Dammit Electro you already had your own game, quit hogging the spotlight! XD 13:03-13:15 That sounds like something Spider-Punk would do. He did kill his universe's Norman Osborn by using his guitar as an axe... 24:00-24:04 I got one. The Bolt Brigade! 24:20-24:32 To be fair, not many villains seem to know about Spider-Man's Spider-sense. Venom and Doctor Octopus are a couple of the exceptions.

This is one of the games in my current PS2 collection for my CACHA-PS3. It was kinda weird to get into, it reminded me so much of the demo of Enter Electro I played on a PS1 demo disc ages ago. The game frustrated me at a few points, stealth sections, getting used to the web slingling controls to finish the Bomb Rush stage, that weird quirk where sometimes Spidey will move in a completely different direction from what you're facing... stealth sections with killer robots Presentation was nice, I enjoyed the levels featuring characters that weren't in the movies, Toby's here and I love listening to Bruce Campbell tell you basic instructions. kinda makes me want to try Spider-Man 2 since people say it's LEAGUES better.
