@@weldsj8847 That is just stupid. The movie was very problematic. But not because of freaking hate for men or some shit like that. I stand by the fact that Kylo Ren, Luke and Finn are the only characters that even have something resembling a character arc and development in that movie. The problem was that Rian Johnson and his writers are incapable of telling a story. They might have good ideas, but they get lost in ineffective storytelling and his ridiculous desire to make everything unexpected. He doesn't seem to understand that "new and different" is not automatically better than the logical conclusion. But fuck off with that "SJW agenda" shit, please. The only character that gives off that impression is Holdo. And she only comes off like that because Rian, once again, is too shitty to make something that might have been interesting work. Hell, maybe they even have a feminist agenda. But in doing so they basically manage to make the male characters the more interesting ones. Which, no matter the intention basically does the opposite of conveying any "man-hating" message in that movie.

I felt like peter didnt want to train miles was because he didnt want him to bear the torch of spiderman, he wanted to save him from a life of being spiderman. We see time and time again that spiderman and all that great as a life style and you need a strong mentality to deal with it. And since peter b. is morally defeated it makes since that he doesn't want miles to be sucked into that. One scene that perfectly shows it for me, and wish they added more on, was in the "spider-cave" all the characters trying to train miles. Miles gets overwhelmed with all the pressure from all the questions hes being asked out on the field. Every one is pressuring him with questions except for peter he sees that it's to much for miles and wants them to ease off. Idk guess I wanted more with miles, gwen and peter even though the other 3 characters really fun. Just my opinion. Nice video by the way.

Some worst arguments I've heard about Luke and Rey's character in the film are: Rey being a nobody is relatable-that doesn't make a character relatable its there flaws and problems which make them relatable. Luke is now human-Luke was already human in ESB he suffered a lot at the end from a mistake on his part by going bespin (he lost Han, his hand, his father lightsaber, from certain point view his mentors were lying, he thought his father was amazing but really he turned into a evil man).

That bit about change was spot on. A good story always involves change of some kind. And if your protagonist doesn’t change, that’s fine. But then you have to ask “Who does the protagonist change?” Let’s assume Peter didn’t need to change in Spiderverse. He would still wind up changing Miles, giving him more confidence, more assurance, and helping him hone his skills. Now, who does Rey change? Can’t be Luke, because Yoda does that. Is it Finn? No, because she doesn’t even see him till the very end of the film, let alone talk to or inspire him. Does she change Kylo? No, because Kylo is pants-on-head retarded. So, Rey doesn’t change, and no one is changed by her. And if there’s no change in the story as it exists, then why am I wasting my time with it, when I could be watching “Into the Spiderverse,” instead?

Rey is a flat character. The main character has to impact the story initiating change in the plot and/or characters. I learned this in the 10th grade yet millionaire directors don't seem to get it.
@Adorni
@Adorni 4 жыл бұрын
Cygnus Prime I wouldn’t say the protagonist always HAS to initiate change, but some measure of change should happen AROUND the protagonist. Since I’ve been in an odd mood, let’s look at the protagonists from Silent Hill 1 and 2: Harry Mason is a writer who goes to Silent Hill with his daughter, loses her, then braves the horrors of the town to save her. Harry is a pretty proactive protagonist who affects change in the story due to his actions. Conversely, we have James Sullivan, who doesn’t even seem to have an occupation. James doesn’t go to Silent Hill exactly of his own accord, rather he is drawn there by a letter from his dead wife. He doesn’t have a strict goal in mind and spends a lot of the story reacting to other characters. That is, until he’s confronted with a repressed truth about himself, which leaves him changed as a result. Both of these protagonists involve change, but one affects that change, while the other is affected BY change. Regardless of the change’s nature, however, neither protagonist is ignored by the plot. And this is why characters like Rey don’t work, because they don’t change anything, nor are they changed by anything. Like you said, they are a flat character.

On the topic of Incredibles 2, they gave Helen a chance in Incredibles 1 to have a plot arc. We see her struggling with her body image in a fleeting scene, we see her not being able to do things as easily as she used to. You can almost see the thoughts going through her head "man, I'm getting old". Yes it's not to the same degree as Bob. But as you said, they don't capitalize on any of that in Incredibles 2. It picks up right where the story left off, and yet suddenly she is just as loved and adored and capable as she ever was. She doesn't grow over the course of the story, at all. The only person who "grows" is Bob, out of jealousy for not being in the spotlight. Which is fine, as a subplot. But we already had a character arc for him in the last movie, he shouldn't be the only one growing.

Rian couldn't take constructive criticism from his own coworkers and staff or the fans. Anyone who thought differently was simply wrong in his eyes. Similarly, those who promote the same "Woke" agenda in their material (it's called that I guess for some reason) are the ones who label any and all criticism as racist and sexist regardless of what is said. Anyone who doesn't promote them is apparently a bigot; it's through this tactic that they put down anyone in their way and shame anyone for thinking differently. I think they do this to defend flawed ideas; instead of raising themselves up, they put others down because they don't have a leg to stand on. They know better; they know all of the real issues; they just pretend not to because that would cancel their political promotions in their content.

Peter gets to have a redemtion arc with helping Miles learn to contol his powers, and in doing so regains his confindence to help the other spiderpeople deafeat Doc Ock and get them to the their home dimensions and close that super collider. This allows Miles to deafeat Wilson Fisk and leave him webbed for the NYPD. Luke has no such arc. He initially chose not to train Rey and told her its time for the Jedi to end. This was so lame. He's become so jaded after Ben turned to the dark side and killed his other students. Sure, fine. But to go into seclusion like Obi-Wan did and not giver give a damn about helping the Resistance is selfish and lame. I really like Into The Spiderverse, and I don't like The Last Jedi.

@freddykrueger8076
@freddykrueger8076 4 жыл бұрын
Jack Klachian ...what? Thor in Endgame was entirely believable. It doesn’t matter whether he bounced back or not. He lost everything. His Brother, his Mother, his Father, his Sister, his Girlfriend, his Best Friends, his literal Nation (as a Place), and under his own rule he had lost 3/4 of his own people. He has lost an eye, as well as that of Mjolnir, and fallen from grace more times than can be counted. And he had lost against Thanos in 3 of the 4 fights against him. The first time on his ship. He lost 1/2 of his people, his eye, Heimdall and Loki, who by the way gave his life for Thor. The second time was in Wakanda where he not only failed to kill Thanos, but he also failed to stop the snap. He then proceeded to lose 1/2 of his remaining people, and any dignity he had left. The third fight on the garden, was more of an execution. And though technically he won the battle, he had lost the war. He didn’t get his people back, nor Loki, nor Heimdall, or anyone else. He was a failed King, a failed Hero, and a failed Brother. He failed at every single corner. That would tear anyone apart. He fell into depression, and as the way of the land, dueing his depression he didn’t take care of his people. As a King, he sat around deinking Beer and playing Fortnite. He ahd hit rock bottom. The only reason the Asgardians didn’t kick him out was because he was their King, and he knew it. He was useless to society. And he was this way for FIVE Years. Then Hulk comes back with a talking Rabbit who says that they can being everyone back. He doesn’t want to hear it. It is too heartbreaking for him. He thinks to himself, what if we fail again? No, what if I fail again? What if I screw everything up? What if I make everything worse? What if... what if I only lose more people. So to avoid these but still try to help, he drinks his sorrow away. His friends make jokes on his behalf instead of trying to help him. And when he gets the chance to go for the stone? He sees his ex-Girlfriend, which reminds him... Heimdall is alive right now. Loki is alive right now. Father is alive right now. I haven’t screwed everything up yet here. Which only hurts him even more. YET. Then he sees his Mother, and that is so painful for him. His own Mother. And he just wants to tell her everything. He just wants to apologize for everything he has done, as he fees the blip is his fault. He just want to tell her... anything. But he can’t. He can’t say a word. That would only make things worse. So to not screw up things here, he holds in his pain. Then... Then... He finds out... Natasha is dead. Even after Banner undid the snap... Heimdall is still gone. So is Loki, and his Father. And now Natasha too. Thor’s worst fear has been actualized. By coming along in his mind, he got another one of his friends killed. He screwed up again. Even if it wasn’t his fault, he would believe it is. And now... Thanos comes. He attacks again. Is this my fault he thinks? Has he come because of me? Should I fight or run? Deciding it would be better to die on the battlefield, than to run as a coward, he fights. He fights to die. But then! A glimmer of hope, as he is prepared to die, Captain America shows that he is worthy! Thor sees that not everything is lost! He continues to fight. Alongside everyone else with a renewed vigor. They win against Thanos, but still at yet another loss. Tony is now dead. Natasha is still gone. 1/2 his kingdom is still dead. And now Steve is dying as an old man. What should he be happy for? For what reason? The one person he saw as a glimmer of hope is now frail, old, and dying. With his kingdom now doubled in population he now has to make a choice. Does he return, as a failed King, and as a STILL failed Hero, to a kingdom wherw he failed to rule? Or does he leave and hand leadership to Valkyrie? Valkyrie is in no way SJW Pandering (ignore the damn actress for a hot minute!!!). For 5 years, she took care of New Asgard in Thor’s absence. For all intents and purposes, she had been the King of New Asgard for 5 Years already. She just didn’t have the title. Now she does. Thor goes on to join the Asgardians of the Galaxy. He may still be depressed, and it is EXTREMELY unrealstic and very poor storywriting to say he “rebounds” so quickly, but he is getting better. As shown by the final clip of him where he is joking around with Star-Lord. ---------- Everything about Thor was perfect. I personally am concerned about Thor 4, but I have hope that they won’t screw it up. After all, Thor 3, IW, and EG were all amazing for him.

@@freddykrueger8076 Good write up. They never fully let Thor bounce back because it's not the end of his story yet. Iron Man is gone, his arc is over. Steve got to live the life he should have and now is old, his story is over. Yet Thor joined the Asguardians of the Galaxy, clearly showing his story is not yet over.

@@freddykrueger8076 Wow. You obviously know a lot more about Thor than I do. I'm just saying, heroes are great BECAUSE they bounce back. In SPITE of all those tragedies you listed. Nobody cares about a powerful character who encounters hardships, and then gives up because of them. You can't tell me that in 2019 the direction they chose to go with his character (or that scene) wasn't symbolic in any way... It was a definite stab at the white males of society, fantasizing about handing over their "patriarchy" in a social justice fashion. You say it was just the natural outcome of his character, but if the writing staff were at all interested in complex/natural character arcs over political messages, they wouldn't have made Captain Marvel so boringly powerful and with zero weaknesses. Literally in the whole movie her only "struggle" was getting over the stereotype that women are emotional. Yeah, ok.

@@shishka67 *Nobody cares about a powerful character who encounters hardships, and then gives up because of them.* That sounds like a normal Greek tragedy... *It was a definite stab at the white males of society, fantasizing about handing over their "patriarchy" in a social justice fashion.* You sound like a SJW. Just on the other side of the political spectrum. *but if the writing staff were at all interested in complex/natural character arcs over political messages, they wouldn't have made Captain Marvel so boringly powerful and with zero weaknesses* It almost like the writers for Thor and Captain Marvel are completely different people from each other.

Jack Klachian He is bouncing back, however it was never going to happen in Endgame. He will most likely ‘bounce back’ in Thor 4. No, it was not pandering. Nor a stab. Thor 4 may very well be (we need to see). Captain Marvel was definitely pandering. Thor from Thor 3, IW, and EG was not pandering. As the guy above me said, the writers for Captain Marvel were NOT the Russos nor Waititi. Heroes should bounce back but it needs to be convincing and reasonable, otherwise you get Batman v. Superman.
