I'm convinced the writers wanted to imitate stories like "One Punch" and "Mob Psycho." Where main characters have seemingly everything from the get-go, but still feel unfulfilled, so the stories are built around their mostly internal struggles, mundane personal lives, and the world around them. BUT, it does show them being absolute bad mf's when they need to be. It's like the writers were trying to captivate that feeling but missed it completely with all the other agenda's they were pushing. The finale is such a cop out.

"... Where main characters have seemingly everything from the get-go, ..." Honestly, i don't think so. Aside from the fact that One punch man and mob psycho only work because they have some thought put into characters and their development, the whole thing with "hero is always the most powerful, etc" is just something that seems to be the new baseline for female marvel heroes. The exact same thing happened with Captain Marvel. Their idea of a "powerful female hero" is to make that hero as powerful as possible and then go even further than that, instead of actually developing a good character.

One of the most heartbreaking things about She-Hulk as a show, is that it didn't have to suck at all. In fact, a lot of the elements could've actually worked very well. The problem is that this property was given to a bunch of clueless writers who had no idea what to do with the material and simply did what they thought was fine. On top of that, they couple that with using the show's empty humor simply as a mouthpiece to channel their passive-aggressive energy towards the fans. In fact, this seems to be a glaring issue with a lot of shows today in the entertainment industry, to be honest. The writers, developers, showrunners, etc., they care far more about sending some vapid, empty political message to the audience in the most vitriolic way possible, than they do about simply making a good show for people to watch. When has this become a thing in Hollywood, and why is it a thing?

@Nyzer_ Жыл бұрын
A big reason why the Deadpool movies work so well is because their fourth wall breaking is only used to add humor to a plot that already works without it. Deadpool 1 has a former mercenary with cancer undergo intense illegal treatment to hopefully provoke any mutation potential he might have so that he won't die of cancer, only to find out that the successful mutants are turned into slaves and sold to the highest bidder, and that his own mutation makes him so ugly he fears his girlfriend will lose interest in him. He spends the movie working to fix both issues. Deadpool 2 has him fail to save his girlfriend, become nearly suicidal as a result, and when he finds out that a school for mutants is abusing the children, he sacrifices his freedom and mutation in order to save the kids, especially the one lashing out. He gets swept up in a plot involving that kid and his time-traveling victim in the future, and does his best to avert it without letting any innocents die. Eventually, after it's all over, he manages to snag the time-traveler's equipment, charge it back up, and save his girlfriend. She-Hulk could work amazingly well by following that format. Mix the humor with lots of things that are indeed taken seriously and that do actually matter. Instead, the show actually shits on the elements that previous movies set up to be taken very, very seriously, such as Bruce losing his mind in the Hulk form. Jen having to struggle with a lesser version of that, or Bruce spiraling into depression and self-doubt, wondering if there was just something wrong with him after she didn't have to struggle with it at all, would have been a really strong ongoing plotline to have for this season. Jen hooking up with a guy for several episodes only to find out he was after her blood, and that they learned how to make it work based on Emil's old research, all while she's spending several episodes preparing for his appeal, would also have been a good ongoing plotline.

@@millielamagnifique2980 I think something I've seen discussed more often in the wake of She-Hulk is how insular and isolated Hollywood writers are from the rest of the world. It's this weird social environment where nepotism, ass-kissing, and big names matter more than one's skill or experience do. Even when it's someone with a big name, they usually have a very specific style, and that style may not be suited to the material they're writing. I'm willing to bet they mostly just brought in folks who can make amusing jokes in their social circles and just called it a day there. Why worry about bringing in folks known for fan-favorite fourth wall break jokes when we've got the folks who make the best jokes about the high ego men in the industry? We see these weird writing staffing decisions all the time in this industry. Why hire a single director for all three Star Wars sequel films - or, god forbid, stick to any sort of actual plan - when we can just yolo it each time? No restraints on what they can write, everything's allowed up to & including retconning elements from the previous films. Why let D&D jump ship if they want to move on from GoT and then hire new writers to take over, when we can just allow them to nosedive the series? Why hire people who like and would be willing to faithfully adapt Halo or The Witcher when we can just fill the writing team with people who hate the source material? There's just something horribly wrong with the industry and the way it chooses/elevates writers and directors.

My comment is receiving so many likes that I will expand on it. Basically a competent writer can create characters with a point of view outside of their own, for example, George RR Martin (an old man, also probably the GOAT) can tell the story from the perspective of a child, a dumb king, a woman, a genius, etc. And they will have different opinions of the world that make sense to their own character, everyone feels like a real person. In She-Hulk everyone feels like a caricature, it’s clearly made from one dimensional WOKE point of view of the world. -Men are dumb and mistreat women. How the un-creative team used She-Hulk reminds me of an ad of Soldier Boy where he goes “and don’t do drugs kids”, basically they take a supposedly famous character to teach kids how to behave. They are using She-Hulk to tell MEN the BIIIIGGG struggles of a modern rich Californian woman. I mean, when She-Hulk complains of stuff and makes a big deal out of truly small things you can tell this is the reason. For example She-Hulk explaining to Bruce how women get mansplained, you just know it’s cause that happens to THE WRITERS, not to every woman. How can the She-Hulk character not be an entitled hypocrite when the writers are that way?? I mean it is posible, but that’s only if the writers were actually smart, sadly the writers can’t see past their own two feet. They have a limited understanding of the world, mostly influenced by woke culture.

The reason it's so hated is because it wasn't made to parody fan fics and instead makes the entire MCU fake in-universe, has a beloved character who could have been great in the MCU into an unlikeable twitter girl who would berate a 14 year old's post for saying something apparently sexist that most people don't give a shit about and used the show itself to vent about how much they hate men and how EVERY man is either a gross narcissistic pig or a dumb loveable idiot they can boss around (this being Pug who's literally named after a puppy) and the only time male characters are slightly redeemable to when they already have a huge franchise the She-Hulk writers can't touch (Daredevil) but even other heroes aren't safe from being turned into jokes with Wong being apart of the Maddisyn joke (I found Wong kinda funny but he isn't meant to be a funny character he's meant to be a serious and stern martial artist/master of the mystic arts) with how Phase 4 is going I feel like the strength and power of the MCU died with Iron Man since his snap didn't just remove Thanos but also the fun from the MCU by removing any Male character's ability to be serious for more than 5 minutes and any female character's ability to be weak and all they need is "to believe in themselves" to control powers they have no idea how to use or be overpowered and not have any battles be exciting except the final- *gets call* Yes? Wait they cut off the final fight? So the only fight where all sides would be close to equal ground was cut for what? To ruin the entire MCU for a fourth wall break joke? You can't be serious right? These are the backing of so much of the MCU and it has worked for so long But making a loop of hate is good now? I say that isn't what the MCU should be about and it should be about following the struggles of our heroes through dangerous battles and hard time, the best way to check for a true believer of justice is to see which heroes can handle that pressure

Yeah that makes sense, also the fact Jen had God-like power for a moment and only used it to benefit herself instead of at least TRYING to have K.E.V.I.N improve the lives of the other heroes in the Marvel Universe really sells how she never grew as a person throughout the show. Also Emil’s crimes are mush more severe that Jen’s. She got punished cause people were scared of her for something that most people would get mad about. The name comes from where an actor is playing in a comedy and the boom mic accidentally comes into frame and the actor improving puts a lamp shade on the mic and continues the scene like nothing happened and the director keeps it in the final cut. Intentional lamp shading also exists and can be done well. This is the perfect example of the worst way to go about lamp shading. Shitting on yourself is not funny, its sad.

While the concept of a character breaking a fourth wall to confront the writers about the bad writing is not a bad one, the way it ended feels thrown in rather than something that feels like a genuinely compelling ending. Like slapping an bandaid onto a giant crack and missing the center.

Funny that ep. 7 is the only one I didn't see and you showed the part where she's in the circle talking about how she doesn't know if people like here for who she really is, showing what she actually thinks about herself. In the finale, at some point she can't turn into She-Hulk anymore and you'd think she'd be happy or relieved, like now that she's gone through knowing what it's like to be the popular girl, she can be happy with who she really is. What actually happens is that she's mad she can't turn into She-Hulk now and asks the audience "is this what you guys really want?" , which is, again like you said, having her cake and eating it too: she wants people to like her for who she really is but she doesn't ever want to go back to being who she really is permanently. This can only give the audience two lines of logic with regard to how she truly thinks: either she was lying when she talked about wanting to be liked for who she really is (i.e. narcissist) or she needs to be able to become She-Hulk because she doesn't want to deal with the reality that there's actually nothing interesting about Jen Walters.

An easy fix for the finally. Jen takes everyone to court and she is fighting Todd, "Her way". Then Hulk and Titania burst in and everyone starts fighting. Then we get the "Thanos Pause" and she does her whole 4th wall deal. This forces all the crazy super powers to sit down and respect the courtroom, where she uses her legals skills to beat the bad guy.

That could be HILARIOUS. Todd Hulk having to sit at a witness stand as he calmly makes his case, struggling to fit in the small space. Bruce waving cutely to his cousin as he arrives to sit in the back of the court, giving a "YEAH... Sorry!" when Jen gives a particularly good speech. Titania being told to stop talking trash or she'll be in contempt of court. It could all work so well... With good writers.

I still think the better explanation for her controlling her powers is that she in fact, does not control her anger. But in fact, it's because she wears her anger on her sleeve she doesn't split like Bruce did. So in reality it's not complete control. It just seems that way because she already is accustomed to letting her feelings affect her so greatly. Bruce went with suppression and for the longest time it didn't work. It'd make sense that she'd have the opposite problem, which would on the surface appear to be mastery until you dive a little deeper into her actions. Seeing how even though she talks normally and seems to have some rationale, that she still ultimately is giving in to anger. But of course not a single writer of this show had even the slightest bit of foresight or an iq above a single digit. So that potential exploration and admittance that perhaps she doesn't control her feelings as well as she thought isn't something that gets explored. Like man, if you want to bring Hulk powers to a more mundane setting to analyze and reflect on a character's actions and psyche, learning lessons along the way, there are forty billion better ways of doing it than these people did. I am not a writer. But I could easily write something better than this crap.
@eeveeofalltrades4780
@eeveeofalltrades4780 Жыл бұрын
That makes sense. In Bruce's case it's literally just what happens in real life when you try to hide your anger: it eventually explodes. But She-Hulk simply lets her emotions take over, so she knows what she's doing while being angry (meaning she actually has to be held responsible for what she does as a Hulk)

@@heorhii_veinapok yeah that sometimes happens with ai dungeon. I have had some very insane stories that I created this year, with some masterpieces including a Spider-Man vs the Sinister Six story that had Doctor Manhattan and a robotic Doctor Octopus who is somehow also the Green Goblin, as well as a continuation of that story where Harry becomes Venom and creates the Sinister Seventeen to destroy Spider-Man, including members like King Kong, Princess Peach, Vergil from Devil May Cry, and Aunt May. To say the least, when ai dungeon is good, it is pretty fantastic, although in my experience, when you try to create a remake of a story (much like what I am trying to do with She Hulk at the moment), half the time it works and the other half of the time, it treats the story as though you are somebody who is advertising the story to someone. Also, She Hulk has nine episodes, so it is like creating nine separate yet continuing stories. As someone who has experience in the field of ai dungeon, do you have any tips for me to start this story of on the right foot? Also, what would I have to include or change, since even if I bring up stuff like Abomination and Wong, I wouldn't know if that should be included to follow the show we got or what I would do otherwise. I would really appreciate if you could help me. :)

When the fourth wall is broken right, it feels like you're watching the movie with a friend and he hits the pause and offers an interesting, witty and/or funny commentary. Except instead of a friend it's a favorite character or a movie star. It does not affect the script (at least in the good cases I can remember). So it lets you distance it from the movie and feel like you're watching it with someone interesting and/or awesome. Even if you're watching alone. I think, maybe, that's why the author loves breaking the fourth wall. Instinctively. But without understanding, so she can't replicate it properly.

Writers- Marvel studios won't let us make a good ending so we had to ridicule the entire system. Reality- they were allowed to do anything, even a really bizzare ending that undermined the whole franchise, but they didn't have any actual plot to wrap up at the end, so didn't actually do anything good. In fact, they did half of the 'bad' ending anyway, but bailed on it.

Now it sparked a maybe comparable finale. In Spain we had a series called The Serranos. An 8 season mediocre melodramatic slice_of_life series that, as it used to be, became crazier and crazier every season until they write themselves in a corner and drive the main character to kill himself in the final episode. But they couldn't end the series in that absolute dark note, right? The solution... All (and i mean mostly all the series). Was a dream. The difference is that The Serranos reach there after 147 episodes. She-Hulk had only 9 empty stupid episodes.
