I think Rey’s character decaying, so to speak, would make perfect sense if they did turn her to the dark side. Gundam AGE tried to accomplish this with Flit- I think it failed and am not alone in this- by having him start wide eyed and innocent and end up genocidal. Then again, this would retread Anakin’s arc too much. It might work if they tied in Kylo and Rey’s arcs: he starts out evil but gains his redemption, she starts out good but becomes evil.

This would have worked out better if Rey had turned to the dark side and Kylo redeemed her. It would subvert expectations and show how both characters had changed since we first met them. It’d take some writing but it would make for a much better final villain than springing Palpatine on us. Rey thinks she killed Finn and/or Poe, which has her lose it and turn to the dark side. Turns out one of them is alive- not both, there should be stakes- thus making the faked out death actually matter. Not entirely sure how to add Kylo into this but maybe he’s the only one who can get to her and telepathically show her that Poe or Kylo are still alive. As for the whole child soldier motif, that these movies came after Iron Blooded Orphans is…pretty sad.

Well the fact that the writers have not written anything of note doesn't surprise me. Tolkien had invented a veritable host of very interesting characters. Obviously this bunch of wanna be writers new better ???? OR went on a huge Ego Trip and actually thought these new non Tolkien characters would enhance the story .... Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sooooooo wrong, they are a huge bunch of VERY BORING Utterly Pointless additions and a huge waste of screen time that would have been MUCH BETTER SPENT on the main characters to make them even more interesting than they are as written by Tolkien. A huge mistake, the series is way tooooooo boring, way off plot (Writers Ego Trip AGAIN I suspect), I gritted my teeth through the first load of twaddle but I won't be wasting my time on the next lot. A huge opportunity lost by Amazon, get some decent writers an re shoot everything except the scenic backgrounds, scrap ALL the non Tolkien characters and get down to showing the Tolkien story on TV.

I read an interview with Jon Favreau (ironic that it's him and so involved with marvel) where he said the best advice he got was from Glenn Close and she said that you shouldn't try and write comedy but write about the truth and the comedy will come. I think why shows likes this or just woke shows in general aren't funny is because they aren't anywhere close to the truth or real life. So no one can really relate to them and the writers don't know how to write about actual situations. They just write about what they're told to write about and then try and make that funny. It's a recipe for disaster.
