I find it hard to tame my ego. In 2019 I spent a few weeks during my meditation sessions practicing a Buddhist meditation practice called maranasati (death awareness). It was a thirty-minute guided meditation on the brevity and uncertainty of life as well as death's inevitability. It was a tough meditation to sit through the first few sessions, but with time I found myself going through the days with more gratitude and service to others than before. I've fallen away from the practice with 2020,. but your video was a good reminder of practices that have worked for me in the past. Thank you!
@JulianneKeu
@JulianneKeu 3 жыл бұрын
I totally relate. Those of us who have trauma tend to have stronger ego's to protect our inner child. So at the very least, we can give ourselves grace for that! I've never heard of maranasati but I'll have to look into it now. BTW I just read your other comment on the Stoned Ape Theory and climate change. What an interesting video idea. Loads to talk about. I was going to film a video about the Stoned Ape Theory but I wondered if people would find it interesting enough. If I could tie it to pressing issue like climate change... maybe it'll be worth its salt. Thanks again Jason for the continued support 🙏🏼

Ego is just your personality, your habitual self. Whenever you notice its patterns and habits instead of becoming them automatically then it's been transcended through awareness, consciousness, mindfulness--what I think you're calling intuition. It's very simple and ordinary though. Shrooms make ego dissolution seem extraordinary with colors and visuals and terror.

Dear soul! Thank you for this great theme! 💓 Agreed! ...To my vew there cannot be a spiritual ego as cannot be light darkeness or the sleeping wakening. Ego illusion is an illusion, the falce identity. Spirituality, thevwakening of tge soul is wakening of the EMATHY, THE FEELING OF ONENESS, THE GREAT 'WE ARE' with everething around... the changing local little 'I' into the unbelievable everconnected WE ARE, and it is not via physical 'I', but the HUGE ANGELIC SELF, REALIGBED WITH ALL ANGELIC SELCES , THE PENETRATING CONSCIOUSNESS... for this type of consciousness the separation and other plays of little egos are not interesting. No interest... The moment there is a feeling of the separation - we are in illusion. And illusion is sleeping of the awareness.

i love you thank you!! Ego is not bad, we are not bad, the trip of comparing/judging is a thing that happens. Thinking ourselves "BETTER" than others is, i think, sick/over-responded ego maybe. But trusting our "Ego's Intuition" (if there can be such a thing haha!!) that we are SAFER or MORE CORRECT right now than others around us, is an impulse I am more keen on allowing myself recently. We might be correct, or at least should be free from internal confliction, at our own pace. I've loved and trusted mushrooms, but am scared of them now, and even have a story/paradigm (very real to me) about human-insect parasitism/symbiosis, that mushrooms may very well have a function in facilitating. As much as i loved boundary-dissolving medicine, I am just as eager to rebuild some of those boundaries. I think some of what I'm feeling in a weird, roundabout way actually relates to how you felt about those Spiritual Narcissist's comments... people implying a correctness over another person, judging, creating a sense of urgency that the reciever of the message "accept the trueness"... fueling inner war perhaps... starts maybe from fear/uncertainty in our own experience, and/or an "original push" from someone/somewhere that we were not allowed to just be in our own truth and at our own pace... or something. Not sure how i feel my comment is turning out, oh well haha, here we go :-) I really appreciate what you share with us, thank you

Thank you for talking about this. I fell into this trap during my 'spiritual path'. I guess it is not strange for a highly ego driven person to fall into this before full understanding of the ego mechanics. I've also fallen into the trap of confusion in regards to the nature of reality since most information concerning ego and enlightment comes with dogma. I was fortunate to also get my info from the likes of Sam Harris, which I know you also follow. He has a very grounded non dogmatic approach. The way I see it is that achievements deal with cause and effect but don't define your personality. So if you are good at a sport or technique, whether that be acting or meditating, then the effects will be good performances in those fields. Yet good performance in anything does not necessarily make you kind, friendly, open, calm etc.. These other things are completely independent of your achievements and when done most of the time, define your PERSONALITY. You can always develop behavioral traits with practice and consistency. It is those things that will define you as a person,, your personality. Not your You Tube achievements or school/work achievements. So if you do things to brag and show others how better you are,, Irrelevant of your success, your achievement won't define you or your personality,, your bragish insecurity will. Personality traits are real and have an impact in your quality of life, the people around you etc. The character based egotistic projection of your self in your head is insecure, delusional, one sided etc etc... And impossible to keep up with.. Insatiably hungryyyyy.. Lol.. But make no mistake, even though the ego is an illusion of sort,, personality traits are real and tangible. They are behavioral patterns. Bottom line, don't chase things for stature, chase them for what the mere process of chasing them gives you. Or it could also be about what the final achievement gives you, as long as it's not identity based. And in regards to putting in the work to improve your personality if needed, it also works. One can always alter the ratio of acts of kindness, open cool and loving behavior ,, moments of peace. Never too late to have a chilled out open and fun personality or what ever you like.

What has been ironic as a woman interested in spiritual growth is finding that many (not all) “spiritual” men will use it as a way to feel superior to women and feel like the moral authority in the relationship. “Teaching” me how to be on their level. Looking back, most of their reasoning was total bs. Like “my meditation practice is changing me for the better, so if we don’t keep having sex than I might grow beyond you,” or “I’m clearly a lot further on my journey so it’s probably for the best that you broke up with me” 🤦‍♀️ Being “spiritual” means so little without context.

I live in an area where many cults have formed and later dissolved or morphed. There is a term used here, “spiritual vampire,” which is surprisingly accurate for describing how some people can suck the life out of communities, projects, or individuals. It has been a good way to stay alert to this kind of narcissism, though! I try to check myself in my own pursuits, often, ask myself if I am coming from a beginner mind or am I implying that I know something. I like how you share ideas, as things that have worked for you. Rather than “this works” period. Thanks! -Suzanna

This is weird because the things you are talking about in this video i have realized on my own without having heard it described before. Maybe ive learned it indirectly through listening to enlightened people talk. Im not saying this as a way of look at me, im so smart i didnt even need to hear about this to know it (or maybe i am, given like you just described how sneaky the ego can be). In fact, i have definitely at times thought i was better than other people and done things that fed my ego because it felt good, and now ive gotten whiplash from that after i realized just how empty, cold and sad my life became. I also noticed just how easy it is to do that, how appealing it is, how often people do it etc. and how you dont even notice it happening and will just find a new path for it if you dont take the time to learn. Its so easy to lie to yourself and lie to other people about who you are so they will present the false idea you have of yourself back onto you, because its what you gave to them so thats all they know. Its very easy and seductive but it leaves you not feeling fulfilled. Its incredibly hard to "surpass" your ego and to be honest, i dont think i could ever be enlightened because of that. I dont see myself having the patience and humility. Or maybe sometime in the future, but it will be incredibly hard for sure, and it would be something every ounce of myself would reject, i think. And not a lot of people seem to do it either makes it really hard to socialize, it seems like a lonely path.

It is interesting topic really. Many things pop out in this video and I’ll message them to you here. Your videos comment sections always make me laugh, I truly hope you find the truths in spaces of the words. That’s all they are, the nothingness between the words is the pause in which you can choose to continue to read them or let go. Understandably your ego and intuition are battling for your attention and it has caused your current state of reflection. 4:19 you start discussing the centrality principle. Which is fascinating in itself. Help me with this one though: why is it when my focus became on my mediation and stillness, rather than on my appearance, did my appearance morph and improve? I’ve been wondering now for over a year. I can tell you that as my understanding of Spirit things increases, my self...or ego...dies. My intuition is based upon selfish desires, and rarely is it correct. However, but as I am currently uncomfortable sharing these things with you and whoever in the comments this message is for, I know that there is a purpose for it. Not my will as I have nothing to gain or risk of loss. You have been given a wisdom that few understand, and even fewer will appreciate, and even more fewer revere. The closer you draw towards the light, the more the darkness is known to you. They don’t like it when you do good or help others. Things of their realm also can’t protect you from them. Keep going. Don’t look back. Your skills are increasing at such a rapid rate that temptations will try everything to throw you back. Run little one. You are blessed and favored. Thank the Creator and remember in the stillness, in the silence, in the nothingness, and in the void.....He is there.

@benonyt
@benonyt 3 жыл бұрын
@@JulianneKeu You’re welcome. I was referring to your comment about “people that want to look better are more motivated to work out...” I found as the deeper I dove into ‘spirituality’ , the less I wanted to spend time working out. When I cut out the care of self image and effort towards molding it, I then saw the greatest breakthroughs. While I care about being healthy and living as a good example, I don’t actively ‘try’ to do this. When I stopped ‘trying’, life became easier and increased greatly. I’m not sure about the morphing of cells, brain cells - yes. This I have data on. Physical appearance - no data tracked, just unexplainable results.

I don't think it's healthy to completely remove or override our ego. To some extent we need our ego to survive. I have to say it's been my ego that has learned how to spot a narcissist, and this in many ways can be life saving in a world where narcissism can often come in the disguise of being enlightened. Side note, at 51 I know nothing but I know enough to say I need to learn more about my ego and my traumas. Thanks for this video.

"If you meet the Buddha on the side of the road, kill him." - Linji Yixuan. This quote from the famous Zen scholar was designed to warn his students of the pitfall of mistaking moments of progress on the path to enlightenment as being the end-all-be-all. This is the trap of ego, and the trap of reaching for the easy accomplishment.

I just don't believe one can not be a balanced spiritual materialist. After all, we are material beings with a spiritual essence. So, what becomes of the spiritual materialist that has tackled their ego? What is a spiritual being that needs materiality in order to continue living? How do we thrive within a physical existence without neglecting our spiritual aspect? Is there no such thing as a balanced spiritual materialist??

Perhaps one of the best ways to know that you are NOT mistaken by an ego masquerading as a Realized person is to ask: am I ready to let (insert your name here) die. This is not a physical death. I am speaking of a personality death. Can the person (your name) disappear, yet the Awareness behind (name)’s eyes still remain present and unidentified as the person (name)? If that makes sense...

Julianne, have you ever tried making a video without makeup? I’m not suggesting that because of looks, but instead because makeup is one of those things that are sooo hard to let go for many women. I think for women, going makeup-free is similar to what showing emotional vulnerability is for men. Why not make one video without or with very little makeup, just to see how you feel about it? It’s very important that when you do that, you don’t mention it to anyone, as there is no need to excuse anything. (Of course, there’s nothing bad about makeup per se, but many women do it compulsively and will get defensive over a comment like mine in an angry way: “Well it’s what I WANT to do. I feel comfortable with makeup and don’t need your unsolicited advice.” True, this is unsolicited advice, but it comes in the kindest possible way. Sending you love.)

People in general look for an excuse to love themselves, because, at heart, they simply don't They need to give themselves permission to self love, even for a short while, and it always is, as they have a hole in their bucket where the love pours out They throw in more love, more excuses, and out it pours, as they can't admit there even is a hole

Louise Hay had a famous saying, “Don’t should on me.” Should implies that they know everything about what’s “right” to do. And is one of the most commonly used words used by spiritual wannabes, and by the spiritual circus in general. I try to avoid it like the plague, or these days, COVID. 😏

@@JulianneKeu hi julianne, btw, i wondered if you would even get back to my comment and you did, very cool. i noticed your past videos on shrooms. wow, i could have an on going rapport with anyone that knows anything about shrooms. i have some minor knowledge and minor experience with shrooms and i found it to be, totally interesting. So interesting that i would like to watch some of your past vids on shrooms, but, since i don't have any, it seems odd for me to start checking out your videos cause i would most likely wind up desiring some, cause i know i would, and not knowing where to get some could be very disturbing, at this time. i am due for a shroom experience and have read extensively about shrooms in the 70's and 80's , and then the self-employment thing took off like a bat out of hellfire and brimstone, and well, who has any time for anything but eating, sleeping, and the flow of customers, so, and my daily end of day toking, which is another story about how i notice many people, with the legalization of cannibis coming to nearly every state and the entire nation soon, that many folks just see cannabis as an alternative to stupid alcohol, which i drank on a regular basis, at the end of the day, not knowing at the time, how bad alcohol really is, and thought of starting an anti-alcohol channel for my yt channel but "craig beck the stop drinking expert" on yt has that pretty well covered and please check him out as i found him two years after i quit that shit completely, but i fear starting a campaign the way i know i would do it, may get me killed by jerks hired by the scum theat runs the alcohol industry machine. hmmm, well, i could on, cause it is only -6 degrees right now with a windchill of -14, so, not too cold, yeah right, fork winter i tell ya, but it really gives us midwesterners some character, and typing was my favorite class in high school and in college, i never knew what to write about which is why i went there in the first place, so, i dropped out, and started my own business, and now, there is no end in sight, and i have no one to pass on the business to not ever being married or having no children, so when it is this cold outside, with jobs already started, from customers in the shop behind this ole farmhouse, i ain't doing a damn thing till the end of the week when this cold snap might let up a little....peace julianne! and did you notice i do not capitalize my "I's", well that is because the "me", or, the "i", is an ego thing, in a subtle way, and i vanished my ego many many years ago, when i found lsd a few times, like three times, and poof, got rid of that one, and am basically, the all seeing eye, encompassing, all that is, to behold, in the nowness, of right now. hmm, can you tell i used to be an allan watts book reader in the 70's? later!
