I think this is one of the greatest scenes in the movie, the score, the beast realising that Casey is one of the broken, the dialogue that he says and then the ending where the beast just walks away. That is brilliant, the writing of this scene and the acting by McAvoy knocked it out of the park

The way his voice goes from triumphant to cracked halfway through "the broken are the more evolved" gets me. It is as if he's remembering his own brokenness even as he rejoices in the strength it has given him. Little details like that really make this scene poignant and drive deep into something many people can relate to in the real world.

Plus the way his eyes change. You see how large his pupils are done because of his predator instincts, but once he sees her and understands her, it's like The Beast becomes tamed in a way? Just like how any animal changes. He stands up straight to walk away and isn't in that sort of lunging stance anymore. I'm not sure how to describe it properly but it's neat. ^^

Because she had suffered already, he considered her heart pure... and let her go. It was emotional and made me cry because broken people are considered weak, but the beast considers broken people as pure and more evolved. It made me feel emotions I can't even describe. She was hiding that she was suffering and he told her she was pure, which is something she'd probably never felt before because people that are abused can feel so low about themselves as the abuser is breaking every part of them, making them feel so small and unpure. This is just what I took from the scene.

Is that true though, really? What does "more evolved" mean? Evolution means that the lifeform best suited to an environment will do better compared to the lifeform that isn't. The environment here is the 21st century society. Question! Are anxious people who can't hold down steady jobs and end up leeching money off of their parents into their thirties more evolved? Are people abused as children who go on to be prolific serial killers more evolved? Are people addicted to alcohol to cope with every day living who go on to kill people in drunk driving accidents more evolved? No, they are not. It's an empty term that seems to glorify mental illness.

They look from within for the answers, the mind becomes clear and pure once more, you are reborn, fresh and open to more natural thinking. You begin to become at one with yourself and the earth again, you break through the barrier of false information that was fed to you since you were a child, you now understand that the constructed world around you is not real. Nature and the earth calls you and brings you back to true peace and enlightenment once more. You are finally free. The vision of Shyamalan + McAvoy's raw talent = Perfection. This scene hits hard. From the soundtrack carefully intensifying the moment, to the cinematography. This is scene precisely culminates the entirety of the movie. All the tension and suspense, released so gloriously. Shymalan has redeemed himself in full and then some.

I went back and watched Unbreakable and noticed something very interesting about what Elijah's (Mr. Glass) mother said to David Dunn during a conversation they were having while they were looking at one of Elijah's' paintings at one of his comic art shows. Here's what she says to David: "That's what I said to my son. He said, there's always two kinds. The soldier villain (The Horde) who fights the hero (David Dunn) with his hands, and then there's the real threat. The brilliant and evil arch enemy who fights the hero with his mind (Mr. Glass)." Crazy how much M. Night Shyamalan set these two movies up with such subtle hints.

I would suspect that Kevin is either the kid that David saw his mother abuse. Which is the likely theory. Or if you pay attention to that one scene where he's searching crimes, the guy in the green shirt that date raped that woman. My proof on the latter is this. 1. One of Kevin's personalities, Dennis wanted to see teenage girls he held hostage dance naked.2. Dennis is always wearing Green when his persona is the most dominant.

The build-up to this scene is cinematic perfection. Superb acting from McAvoy, the amazing view into insanity, and Taylor-Joy's character's complete helplessness against the Beast. She is only saved by enduring evil and "evil" accepted her sacrifice. So many levels to this movie. 10/10 for me.

In the Beasts view the broken are the truly evolved ones because they have suffered and are not asleep. Now what would offend the Beast more than anything. Somebody who is Unbreakable who can't be hurt. To the Beast, David Dunn would be the most impure man on Earth. And that would also make his opposite the physically and mentally broken Mr. Glass the most evolved man on Earth.
@Shanethefilmmaker
@Shanethefilmmaker 6 жыл бұрын
Ya at first. But even with his views, he's still willing to kill those that either stand in his way or those that done something to threaten or hurt Kevin. His father dying is a major hurt and what created The Beast in the first place. So the way I see it, after the many confrontations between him and Dunn, there's gonna be a final one between all three of them. The Beast will go on a tangent with his speech, Dunn who's day job is a security guard will deduce that Kevin's dad died in the same wreck he was in. He'll tell the beast and this would give Kevin enough will power to break out of his persona, but still keep The Beast's strength. He may either kill Glass or Cripple him permanently with his bare hands.

My god I love this scene. The way James McAvoy works with his voice in a Beast form, like a preacher giving sermon. The music that builds up when we look at the scars does not give you a feeling of pity but of hope. Then it changes into a guitar that is combined with the slight tears and understanding in Caseys eyes. All this combined..... it gives you chills. Oh and BTW. After Beast is shot, when you look at his back, you can see the veins appearing. This gives me the impression of increasing strength because he felt pain. Maybe every suffering just makes Beast stronger, because as he said "the broken are more evolved". Just..... amazing

What many don't seem to understand is the power he made her realize she had when he said "the broken are the more evolved". I saw her expression change there as if she had been awakened to her own strength. What did she do after? She turned her uncle in. This moment was outstandingly captured for those who can truly relate. As for the freezing in the car... I get that too. Her character was going through a development. She didn't know how to react at that moment. I'm guessing she had often frozen and accepted the fate she had at the hands of her uncle. And I'm not saying you're not a victim if you didn't grasp the power his line gave to her. Even victims don't understand why other victims react the way they do. We are different people with varying backgrounds and biological developments. She might be an unbelievable character to some who at times acts unbelievably, but she is actually a very real character type based on a real person who might truly react in the way she did in this movie. Somewhere in our world, someone related to her behaviors even more than I did because her reactions are even more similar to their own. I'm not much of an M Night Shyamalan fan, but this movie was very touching to me.

The personalities let her go cause they saw her pain and it reminded them of kevin wendall crumbs pain. The personalities, specifically dennis patricia hedwig and the beast, only purpose was to protect kevin wendall crumb or really damaged people.

That last ‘rejoice’ hit different for me. He sounded somewhat proud of her and reassuring. I don’t know what else to say about it and how else to explain the way it made me feel, but this entire scene right here was just a really emotional experience.

One thing that also gets me is how when he said his final “rejoice”, it was in a voice of comfort and hope. Yes the Beast is a dark alter, but he genuinely wanted her to see that being “broken” is not something to hide or be ashamed of, but to embrace and even love. It was so gentle and comforting and reassuring when he said it😢.

Neil Tomlinson it’s because the Oscars don’t nominate horror movies when they really should. The Exorcist probably would’ve been nominated for Best Picture.

I love (how it does in its own way) how the movie doesnt just focus on the supernatural aspects, but also how trauma and decline mental health happen and how they connect. In that regard, both Taylor and McAvoy really did splendous work on their roles in the movie.

Fun fact: we can actually see Kevin as a child with her mother in unbreakable. When David Dun touch a random woman (Kevin's mother) he sense that she beat her son and then the camera focus on the kid.

Take the diameter of the steel bar as 0.03m, length 2m, Young's modulus of steel 200 GPa, density 7750 kg/m3, deflection 0.03m, you get the workload in the middle of rod at about 4.44*10^7 N, equivalent of 4440 tons weight. That is the superhuman strength required to bend those steel bars.

There's something magical and at the same time very tragic about his speech, something I've found myself thinking more than once. It seems that the whole purpose of his supernatural nature is the "will" to survive, the need to protect himself against abusive entities around him, being his mother the first of all; it seems that his indeed glorious "power" is the direct result of a continuous suffering, a constant pain that has made him evolve and become something more powerful. Are we then capable of redefining our limits? well, the answer to that question is fairly easy but... why does it always have to do with pain? is suffering our ultimate source of power?
