I think in his mind he's doing them a favor. Preparing them to meet "The Beast." I think I remember that's what he called his final personality. And he thought they were resisting what in his mind is a great honor. That's how I saw it.

Because Dennis is obsessive-compulsive. He came for those two girls, which he carefully selected with days of anticipation. He needed to sacrifice people that in his mind had never suffered in their lives, and according to Dennis and Patricia´s beliefs, they were shallow teenage girls with money and a happy life. Casey was not part of his plans, he didn't know anything about her. I guess that's why he didn't even noticed her.

@@carl_anderson9315 I agree with you, and I also think Casey is really good at pretending to be 'nothing' or invisible (cause of her trauma) slash hiding in this situation (shown by at the party, she doesn't talk much) hence Dennis doesn't even realize she is there until she opens the door.

She doesn’t get out of the car because she freezes, like a deer in headlights. Her character is literally a symbol of that particular trauma response. It’s why he doesn’t notice her at first-freezing is a way of keeping predators from paying attention to you, and her character has learned to do that from an early age, from being victimized by her uncle to being victimized by mean girls at school.

I disagree on the basis that people do not turn slowly when they know what to expect. If they don’t know and it is a jump scare it works differently than if it is an expectation. It’s like when a teacher call your attention as she stands by your desk and you know she has seen you write on it with your compass (drawing tool). You know you are caught and slowly face her.

I accidentally entered a guys car when I was in Malaysia without knowing he wasn’t my uber driver till the myteksi guy called me. I told him to take me to the supermarket next to us because I wanted to get internet credit (they came in small packets when I was in kaula lumpur) and he kept slowing down and wondering whether he should and when he did I exited the car. The moment of realization I already had my hand on the handle.. yeah trauma and all that, but survival instinct doesn’t lock down like this, your body moves before you, muscle reflex etc call it whatever maybe my guardian angel, but this DOES NOT happen in real life. her two friends would have noticed he was a stranger as well (i didnt see the movie) it infuriates me how you make it seem like humans haven’t evolved at all. We’re not domesticated animals, not in the least. Even domesticated breeds like cats have great survival instincts.

@@honorificabilitudinitatibu3375 if all people evolved, there'd be no kidnappings in real life. Ever thought about that? Not everyone reacts the same. We see recordings of kids fighting off or running away from kidnappers but not everyone's brain are wired the same, thus we see a lot of missing people turning up dead. We don't know if they died fighting but I'm pretty sure, most of them didn't react in time. Besides, giving consideration to this movie's context, these girls here have different life experiences. Notice how the one of the girls at the back reacted politely at first. That could be true if you're in a middle of a very light hearted situation. You may be suspicious but don't run away immediately. The man was just faster and had he not, the situation would have been different. The girl on the front seat however, is a completely different case. As some of those who watched this film already said, she was abused as a child. And as I've said, our brains are wired differently. She might be one of those whose reaction time has slowed down due to trauma. We normal people would just naturally feel angry towards her inaction as we normally think we can react differently but that is not her case.

Some get too scared that they froze, when theyre in danger they avoid getting unwanted response from that person like being hit or worst that you can imagine..Why you compare yourself when people have different experience/traumas. I was like that when I was a kid. I was full of anxiety. I just improved but Im not gonna get myself hurt by panicking.

Then adopt the Habit of Always Keeping Your Door Locked! Always! (keep a spare key, or key fob in your pocket, or around you neck if you worry about locking yourself out. I was a Driver/Security on a PSD (Personal Security Detail) when I was younger. I also worked for an Officer I served with, doing basically the same thing. Maintain Situational Awareness! It doesn't require "ninja" skills, just applied Common Sense! I also keep the 10 essentials, and basic tools, etc. in my trunk. I rotate stuff every 90 days (add a thicker jacket, and gloves for season changes, etc. check my spare, at the same time). Takes maybe 10-15 minutes every 3 months.

I'm seeing more and more of Anya joy Taylor and I'm loving her more and more and can we appreciate the makeup artists as well look how they contoured the nose and faces Anya looks great as her character!!!!!
