The People's Court

Жыл бұрын

The plaintiff, an advocate for child internet safety, says the defendant, a website developer, posted photos and articles on a website he built falsely accusing him of being a murderer and an escaped convict. None of the accusations are true, the plaintiff says, and he is suing for defamation of character. The defendant claims he was just hired to build the website for a client, but he doesn’t have anything to do with the actual content. The defendant believes the plaintiff should sue the defendant’s client, not him.

@@michelehemlokhexwhite4310 Criminals always try the "Not my fault for the murder during the bank robbery - I only drove the getaway car" defense and seem surprized that legally all parties in the crime are equally culpable. This is why Nazi war criminals can be prosecuted if they pulled the trigger or released the gas to kill people, and they cannot defend themselves saying that they were just following Hitlers orders.

I have feelings about this. I was a web designer for a while so I can understand a bit where this guy is coming from in the sense, if someone contacted me to do a website on porn-it could be perfectly legal- but I can choose to not take the job. But if I did, I wouldn't necessarily be doing anything wrong and porn sites are a big money business. If a client had sent me images to place on the site and it turned out one of them was a girl who turned out to only be 17...I wouldnt want to be the one going to jail over dessimating child pornography. I think this is where contracts come into play and you have to be really clear about what you're responsible for and not. This case is different, though. He purposefully edited pictures of this man to make it look like he commited a crime and he's trying to act like...I was just the website maker I did what I was paid to do. No, no, no. You aren't allowed to commit a crime for someone else. In the case I gave, I didn't willfully upload an image of an underage girl. I was also told all images were of people over 18 and have a contract stating the same. This guy willfully edited images to make someone look like they were committing a crime and he's just as culpable. He should have paid way more, honestly.
