I'm very glad there was no fanfare about the Stamets/Culber relationship in show. It was just 'These two are in a gay relationship. Live with it' and their relationship was pretty normal too, saying that this sort of thing in the Trek universe is just an everyday normal thing not worthy of making a big deal of. The sooner we get there the better.
@DMSProduktionsАй бұрын
Yes, it didn't bother me, they were the basically average, 'normal' gay couple next door! No posturing, to flag waving, no, shove it in your face. Just another couple, who also were badass Starfleeters!
@QuintusAntoniousАй бұрын
I also really appreciated how they were not reduced to being "the gay guys" as a lot of shows do. Being gay was just a reality of their lives, one no one made a big deal about, and their personalities were complex and non-stereotypical. They did such a great job and I loved both characters.

I met the real Paul Stamets once. He seemed nice enough. He was doing a book reading/signing at a place that I worked at. There was a cafe at the auditorium and I worked there. I got him hot water for a tea. And we chatted very briefly. I've heard some people say he's a little uptight, but I think that's because random hippies are always asking him about psychedelic mushrooms. It's not a topic he will talk about with a random stranger, but did touch on that topic during his lecture. And made it clear that he can't talk to everyone about that stuff for various reasons, but you can buy his books to learn more.

I love the inspiration for Stamets and there being an on screen same sex relationship, but he’s one of the worst characters in Trek. That is because as a heterosexual male (as I am) we have not been targets of discrimination, hatred and violence for our orientation. The LGBTQA+ community has, still is, and if Trump's supporters have their way, will be subjected to even more and more horrific versions in the future. The same can be said for women, and people of color.

John Dubya I tried going to church but I had to excuse myself to the bathroom when the pastor invited all the kids down and started preaching directly at them. If Sunday school, directed preaching, and targeted worship isn’t brainwashing, I don’t know what is. I think it’s one thing to bring a kid to church, let them hear the gospel, and decide for themselves, or read the Bible, discuss it with others, and reach their own conclusions, but the explicitly manipulative behavior of organized religions is why we call it brainwashing. In comparison, the brainwashing of the left? It’s just school. There’s a huge difference in passing down belief in a single deity that controls everything and explaining how weather works or how immaculate conception is impossible. One is backed by years of research and evidence, and the other is just trust in centuries of belief in the face of overwhelming contradictions.
