Star Wars: The Old Republic: Is it worth my time?

The experiment gets weirder as I take a step into an MMO set in a universe that I'm really not a fan of. I'm not going to let this get in the way of judging the game on the same criteria as always.

As Thomas Hawethorne points out, the first choice was just Jedi or Sith. You can be a dark Jedi or good Sith if you choose, and it makes the dialogue very interesting indeed and changes the outcomes of some things during the story. It's quite in depth. Also, if you do wish to keep playing, there's a little + on the bottom left of the main skill bar you can click on to change the size of the skill bar, so you can add more skills later on. I usually choose the advanced version myself, but feel free to play around with it if you so choose my friend.

You aren't choosing to be good or bad by choosing a faction. You are just choosing the Republic or the Sith Empire. In game choices that grant alignment are what determine your good/bad guy experience. You can be a Sith Bounty Hunter with a conscious. Or a Jedi Knight like Anakin who is consumed by the Dark Side and butchers children because that's the only real Jedi he can take.

I had no idea things weren't as black and white as good and evil when it came to sith and Jedi. Also lmfao about the Anakin remark

@@PeteSmells This is an Era set prior to the movies, when things were a lot more fluid. Of course the general alignment remains, the Jedi try to be goodie two-shoes, and the Sith are evil bastards for the sake of cartoon villainy. I don't know how far you are, and don't want to spoil anything for you or others watching who haven't played. But the Alignment system is really well done and offers a ton of variety and novelty if you choose to embrace it. I personally love Star Wars, and this time period in the lore, and I think the game does a really good job, despite some obvious gameplay issues, of bringing the setting to life.

@@SharkyNebula That is an over simplification. I have completed all of the Sith main story lines. There were few to no times where I was forced to do something. When the game did force me to do something for story reasons, it still offered the choice to show mercy/compassion and take a good alignment bump.

Universal mmorpg tip: Hold right click to turn the camera. Unless you play on Controller.

I guess you can switch alignments for more roleplaying? Like the good guy slowly falling to the dark side or the bad guy getting a moment of clarity and switching to the light

It's a cool feature. And the fact that items depend on it is even cooler meaning you're locked out of one by getting the other

@@PeteSmells added re-play value also as I think choosing Dark side has its own starting zone perhaps. Quit SWTOR when it went F2P out of protest how bad it was.

@@xezzee The choice is for the faction: Republic or Empire. Your choices affect your character's morality, not the faction they are in.
