The sixth installment of Steam Input Essentials takes an in-depth look at the Mouse Input Style and all of it's settings. I go through each drop down menu, slider, and option explaining what they do and when you should manipulate them. (Steam Controller, Dualshock, Xbox, Switch)

I just got a steam controller in the sale & your videos are hands down the best resource for getting the most out of it. In a weird way, tweaking settings is almost more fun than actually playing games, so I really am the target audience for this thing!

Same here. There have been plenty of times that I've gotten lost in the configurator and ended up not even playing the game much. I just love making configs.

Lots of great explanation graphics in this video, which is definitely helpful for the most complex of the input settings. This is definitely what I use the right pad for most often and I expect those who play more FPS, RTS, or Point and Click games do too. Another great rundown! Edit: FYI, with this title KZfaq doesn't find this video when searching for "Steam Controller". I know it's meant to be more inclusive with Steam Input, but it's good to cover all of your bases when you can :)

Thanks for that search tip. I'll see if adding the steamcontroller hashtag helps with that. Edit: I'm gonna have to do my research about KZfaq SEO. My video is showing up now but I'm around the 20th video and I think that just has to do with the video being a lot newer than the ones above it. But maybe there is a way to cut through the list without giving up the name. Because I certainly want to be found when people search for the Steam Controller....or the Dualshock, or the Switch Pro Controller or anything. So thanks again for the heads up.

Awesome! That's the whole point of these videos, to educate, so I'm glad they do that. Thanks for watching!

You should experiment how the Smoothing behaves when used with acceleration

Anything in particular that you want me to look at or should I just dive in and see where that gets me?

@@criticalinput I wanted you to see for yourself, which is why my comment is so short and perhaps random. When you talked about acceleration, your movement seemed "sporadic" and inconsistent and when you finally mentioned smoothing and set it off almost completely, I had to bring this up. Acceleration is controllable with the muscle memory and especially the smoothing turned on, it feels very intuitive to me since day one.

Don't get me wrong, I utilize both settings for my FPS configs. But I don't intend to directly guide people with these videos. Every user is different and every setting is viable so I try my best not to outright dismiss any settings. Looking at smoothing specifically, I stated that "I suggest always using at least some" because I often hear the argument that smoothing is bad. But I made sure that I didn't say something like "only ever use a little bit" because, again, everyone has their preference. However, I may end up making some videos where I take a specific config and explain why I have the settings set a certain way and that would definitely be a situation where I would display my bias for certain settings.

@@criticalinput Yea I did notice your neutraility. Generally speaking this video is round and helpful for new users. Even I learned something new, which was the vertical friction sensitivty thing
