I know it isn't a very popular opinion around Steam Controller/Input communities, but the Dualshock 4 is actually a really great controller when paired with Steam Input. You have the familiarity of the dual joysticks and a dpad but it also features the touchbar and an IMU (gyro) that is comparable to the Steam Controller's IMU. You can achieve gyro aiming and really nice radial menus on the touchbar (which can be split into two touch "boxes") while not having to relearn an entirely new controller. The only real downside is the lack of grips. With that said, I do support the idea of hiding the DS4 and really putting a solid 2-3 weeks of time towards using the Steam Controller and really taking the time to get a feel for it. I find the touchpads to be superior to joysticks in every way and love having a physical dual-stage trigger rather than emulating it in software. But I appreciate that it isn't for everyone. If you've put in the time and still don't quite get the SC then don't feel any shame in sticking with the DS4. It's an excellent controller as well.

Critical Input thank you. I’m going to put the DS4 away and concentrate on the steam controller. Have you any suggestions for loot boxes? It really slows me down to loot up on Apex. I find moving the cursor hard to select what I need to loot. Thanks again for the guides. The Steam Controller needs more love and it’s only you and a couple of others who embrace it. Cheers.

Let's see, when I played Apex I had scrolling on joystick up and down and then used the right pad + gyro to move the cursor. Do note that I used the left pad for movement, so if you use the joystick for movement then put the scrolling bindings on the left pad. This setuo allowed me to scroll through menus and select items quickly, but you need to get better at using the pad+gyro combination first. So many games require aiming or mouse cursor precision so I would say that's the most important skill to master with the SC. Just play lots of games with aiming or cursor control and develop that muscle memory, it's the only way to improve. One easy way to do this is to use your SC for navigating your operating system. Put the mouse in hiding with the DS4 and use your SC for everything except typing. Or pick up a game with lots of cursor movement, like a Diablo-clone, MOBA, or strategy game. Basically you just need to put yourself in situations that require you use these skills so you can become more acquainted with them. It's sort of like the common advice of dropping into populated zones in Apex Legends. You might accrue a bunch of losses quickly but it'll give you combat experience, something you won't get just hiding and looting for the first 10-15 minutes of each match.

Set the joystick to a Directional Pad. Then you'll have separate bindings for the 4 directions.

The reason why the glyphs work when playing directly is because 4A has programmed Dualshock 4 support into Metro Exodus. The reason why the glyphs don't work when using Steam Input is because Steam Input only supports outputting keyboard, mouse, XInput, and Steam Input API(SIAPI). Since it is a non-Steam game it doesn't support SIAPI. So any controller bindings you assign will show up as an Xbox controller.

@@criticalinput I really wish Developers adds a option to switch Controller prompt, if they didn't add a Dualshock 4 official config. I know Warframe, despite not having DS4 Official config, you can change the button prompt in-game. Same thing with Yakuza 0 (and I think Kiwami?) has its own official config that forcefully changes button input.

I don't use Steam Input anymore so I have no idea. Though back in the old days of Steam Input odd bugs like this could be ironed out by updating Steam. You can force an update by changing version branches, moving between release to beta or vice versa.

Most developers will create a custom curve for their game that most likely can't be replicated in SI. Not to mention that it will be paired with acceleration that also acts on a time based curve. My guess is that Wide is going to be the closest to what you're looking for but that none of the options are going to feel anywhere near the same as COD or Apex.
