Oh I'm so incredibly happy for the makers and actors of Pride. Even if they won't win, this film definitely deserves the nomination!

WHAT AN ABSOLUTE DISGRACE! The only legitimate reason I will accept for BAFTA snubbing Selma, is the dubious screener deadline debacle that has debilitated its other chances in all the major American guilds - the true harbingers for Oscar glory. If that is not the reason, then this is totally unacceptable. DuVernay's direction and Oyelowo's performance tower over a majority of nominees, the film as a whole, a beautiful, impeccably acted, devastatingly important work of art, so eerily significant for our times right now. How can a 100% rated fresh film not at the very least be in the conversation. And don't give me that okey-doke about late release dates invalidating consideration, since Still Alice's release date is a long ways off. The exclusion of 2014's best reviewed film is a toxic stain on BAFTA's continued irrelevance. This rule Britannia, beige-fest is laughable - no Amma Asante, no Gugu Mbatha-Raw. No Bradford Young, no Carmen Ejogo. Yes and before you scream 12 Years A Slave's very well deserved victories, I will kindly point out its inescapable avalanche of critical kudos and stunned screenings, perfectly placed and perfectly timed. Selma - in the midst of an horrific whisper campaign, produced on a measly 20 million dollar budget - expertly describes a vital moment in American history, with all the struggles, political intrigue and racial tensions that erupted in 1965. Oyelowo's MLK is a complex, human representation of such a dignified, saintly hero. The failure of BAFTA to recognise this is tragic.
