I saw this movie when I was a kid, and loved that damn cat so much I named my first cat Clovis. That dang cat was a hellion; attacked anyone who came in the house the first time she met them, then was oddly "ok" ish with them after that. Like she had to establish that she didn't like them right off the bat, and they had to know that immediately. But she loved me to death, though. Looked just like the original Clovis in this movie, too. She lived to 22. RIP little lady. You were the best.

@12227UserName4 жыл бұрын
@@killakacey2615 As a child I had a cat by the name Sylvester (or however it's spelled). Well, he was an outside cat that would perch himself onto the column of our front porch and would meow to let us know to open the door for him. For whatever reason, my folks decided to get rid of him. So they drove a couple miles away to secluded woods-like area and dropped him off there. Amazingly a few days later he was back, perched on the front porch, meowing to come in. Some how, miles away, he found his way back. Because of that, my folks were convinced that he was to stay. In fact, they even felt bad for dropping him off in the first place. How that cat managed to find his way back, I don't know. But he was certainly a good cat - one of the best when it came to intelligence and instinct - and with a sense of being apart of the family. Unfortunately one day he disappeared. Since he was an outside cat, he was always free to roam around. We think someone may have stumbled into him and took him in as a pet.

I reviewed this movie back in HS and got an F. The reason? My teacher said that I deserved an F for making the entire thing up. There was no possibility that a movie like what I described could possibly exist. She also claimed that since Madchen is German for girl that that just added to my failure in coming up with something believable. I ended up getting a B+ after Netflix resent me the disc and I brought it back to class.

I find it hard to believe, buddy. Like, my teacher when I was a kid did not believe that one of my ancestors designed and built one the most famous and most beautiful ships in the world so I had to bring her proof of that (and so I did). That's one thing, and it's understandable because mine was a big claim. But a movie? What kind of shithead doesn't believe a bad, over the top, insane movie might actually exist? She should be fired.

In Egyptian mythology, Bastet is a cat goddess who is the embodiment of the Eye of Ra, and functions as both a violent force to subdue enemies and as the feminine counterpart of Ra. Cats are often seen as spiritual protectors. In Sleepwalkers, the cats are able to see through the illusions of the shape shifters and are drawn to them with a violent urge to subdue. That's how I see it at least :p
@serphence85666 жыл бұрын
Yeah... the movie has a subtle supernatural lore to it. That is not a part of the movie that should be criticized. What was the movie supposed to do otherwise? Spoonfeed his own lore to the audience with expositional dialogue?

Not that this movie is specially good at it but yes, the cats... subplot? is not that hard to understand if you put a little effort. I love Chris' reviews to pieces but lack or excess of exposition seem to be a very recurrent angle for him.

Wasn't the cat fear thing something to do with them being Egyptian? It was a long time ago but that seems to stick in my mind.

I'm pretty sure the creatures in this movie are based in Ancient Egyptian Mythology, which have cats as a huge, very important figure in their culture and mythology.

Ahhh... Sleepwalkers, it was one of the first Stephen King movies I ever watched. My mom had it on VHS and I watched it when I was like, 3-4. It also helped young me be less scared after something scary happened or after watching a scary movie, because it made me believe our pet cats would keep me safe from monsters and shit.

@JesseWolfboy6 жыл бұрын
You don't get "the cats," Chris? Let me explain... The cats to Sleepwalkers are like garlic or sunlight to vampires. Kryptonite to Superman. Cats are their main weakness. There's a line early on about how no matter where they go, eventually the cats find them. It's not explicitly stated, but I think the cats are DRAWN to the Sleepwalkers, like catnip. They can sense that Sleepwalkers are around and they are attracted to them. Like they are instinctual enemies... No matter where the Sleepwalkers go, cats will start appearing around their house, and try to attack them. Get it?
