Steve, I just wanted to say thank you one more time. Just yesterday, my oldest son was telling me how frustrated he is with his newly acquired used lawnmower. It's a Briggs engine, and it hasn't run correctly since right after he got it. So, I pulled the top yesterday afternoon and first thing I saw was the coil contacts were 100% corroded. So were the contact points on the flywheel. I cleaned them off, checked the spark plug and got a good hot spark. The engine would not start at all. We found that it was missing the vacuum tube and replaced it. Still wouldn't start. We, then, pulled the carb. square style and cleaned it. I was super-duper two beer careful in handling the needle jet and put it back together. Pumped the primer bulb, pulled the cord twice, and voilà! For about 20 seconds... Gas started pouring out of the carb and primer bulb. I had forgotten to double-check the seat. I racked my brain, trying to figure out what I was missing. I pulled the carb back down and double-checked the needle jet and checked the ports and blew the ports again as a precaution. I would bet money, I blew out the seat and didn't even realize it. THANK YOU! I now know where to look and what to do once again thanks to you Steve... THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!

Great video. By installing the new needle and seat, it fixed my problem. Also, changed the air filter gasket and O-rings on carb. Sprayed the carburator with carb cleaner. To insert the rubber seat, I used a wooden dowel of the same diameter. Thanks again. Beer = Landshark My leaky carb is now fixed. My next problem is, every time I tilt my beer bottle it leaks. I may require another video. Cheers.

I know these videos are more for the homeowner but I have a tool made by tecumseh to install and remove seats. 20 dollars on eBay. They work like a charm. They don't work on some briggs carbs for installing because some of the briggs use smaller seats but it will remove them. It has almost like a small crochet hook on the end. Great tool. Again I know this is more for a home owner that doesn't have a need to buy these tools but they are worth it for a mechanic. I also like to put a little oil around the seat when sliding them in. I find on some of the stubborn ones where the aluminum carb body has swollen over the years it helps it like right in. Then a little carb clean washes the oil off

Thank you so much, I fixed my carb! Problem in mine was that it was sitting there with no gas for 2 years. Some of the gum actually dried up and got between the needle and the rubber seal. Overhauled the carb with totally cleanup And did the leak test as you showed while the carb was still out. Perfect, no more gas leak. And powered up on first pull!!! 😁😎👍👍👍

Steve, you are the man. I watched a bunch of other KZfaq clips before I found this one that exactly described the problem I had with gas freely flowing out of the carburetor on my Honda HR21 lawnmower that has a carb very similar like the one you showed here. Removing the bowl, float and needle and cleaning them up fixed the problem. The only thing I would add is that I did not have to remove the entire carburetor. I dropped the bowl, float and needle off while the carb was still attached. If needed, you can lean the mower on its side to help see what is going on. After cleaning and putting the parts back on, the mower fired right up and no more gas leak. The whole fix from start to finish took less than thirty minutes. Thank you so much!

This fixed my problem. Drained the fuel out of the tank and carburetor before I stored it and when I pulled it out this spring filled it with fuel and it was non stop leaking. Took the bowl off and removed the float to inspect the needle and seat it all look fine. But it back together and it stopped the leak. I guess the float was just stuck in the down position. Thanks again for the video.

I gave them the model & part numbers…. It’s a live & learn….Amazon! Wasted filter & parts…just an fyi…checked the part #’s after, S*** hit the fan! My bad…”Due Diligence”. Check you part #’s before install. Good videos🍻👍

Easier way to test it so you don’t leak gas everywhere is hold the carb body with the float hanging (open) and blow through the intake port with your mouth. Air should flow through. Then flip the body of the carb over, place your finger on the float (just to keep it from being forced open with your breath) and repeat. No air should be coming through.

Your videos are really informative. About that brass float, though... To save even more money, that can be fixed really easily with a cup of boiling water, a can of freeze spray, a soldering gun and a roll of solder. Using the soldering gun, remove the solder from the vent hole in the float. Once that's done, hold the float under the boiling water with the vent hole at the bottom. The boiling water will force the fuel out of the float. You will see the fuel bubbling out. You may need to hit the float with freeze spray in between dunks in the water bath to lower it's temperature back down below the boiling water if you need to dunk it multiple times to remove all the fuel. Once no more fuel is escaping, reflow solder back into the vent hole. Dunk it again in the boiling water to be sure no more air bubbles are seen. If you see air escaping from the float, be sure to seal those holes as well. This works great for fixing these floats so long as you don't over do it. Too much solder and the float won't float. But for one or two small pin holes... this has saved many a dollar.

Good job Steve, very understanding and straight forward. I like to clean my carbs with mineral spirits to get the bug crud off nd out , then I heat a pan of water with a little Pinesol to cut the varnish , wiggle it around in that hot! Solution for awhile and the carb comes out clean, I put everything in there except plastic.. cleans up good. Regarding beer, my brother and I used to like miller gd, now I like Wisconsin amber or "Capital Amber" as it is called, I think it is better than Alaskan Amber. Thanks bud, keep up the good works and stay cool. God bless everyone. 'Nosdrovia' good health.

Last summer was the first time I’ve ever seen a plastic float leak, it was on a newer Toro with a Loncin engine. Hey, it got me a 2 year old Toro for $25 and it was an easy fix so no complaints! Harp Lager for me, and plenty of it!!

Have a carb off of a Briggs on a Scott's mower. Cleaned it, replaced the needle and seat and still leaks out of the filter side. Took it back off, checked to make sure nothing is stuck in the needle or seat. All good. Back together, test, still leaks. Blew the new seat out, checked it, put it back in, felt it seat in place. Sill leaks. About to toss the carb. It does have the proper needle, I tried the old needle, yep, still leaks.

Great video. Would likely never have found the problem. I probably caused the problem myself. As I cleaned the carburetor I blew air through every orifice I could find and likely blew the seal out without knowing it. Thanks.

Steve, there's another viewer down there who is a Root Beer fan for the same reason I am. BUT when I replace a needle and seat and discover the brass float is leaking I do replace it with the plastic one. I also add vanilla ice cream so I can have a Root Beer Float.

My dad has a Craftsman tractor he was cleaning the carb on. He was using the air compressor to blow out the carb. I bet it's the seat he saw come out and couldn't find it. The tractor never ran again been 2 years now since it ran. I just bought him a carb for it off of Amazon for $14. Not sure if it will work but dad isn't too worried about it. It is 28 years old, has a bent frame in front, no brakes and burns a little oil. Figured if he wants to sell it he can get a little more with it running. He pulled the carb off cause it wasn't running right.

@@StevesSmallEngineSaloon Thank you. I cleaned the carburetor outx but missed the step about the needle and float. My float I know was not sitting flat. Hopefully, I didn't mess anything up. That might explain the gas flooding and leaking in my garage and emptying my gas tank dry. :-(
