How to Upgrade Your TOSHIBA Satellite C55D Laptop Memory

I will show you how you can upgrade the RAM inside your TOSHIBA Satellite series laptop. This is an easy laptop upgrade. This is a Satellite C55D with an AMD A8 Quad-Core processor. I am using Corsair ValueSelect memory to upgrade to. Before upgrading your laptop's memory, go to www.crucial.com to see if you are eligible to upgrade safely. This is supposed to help the "System and compressed memory" task settle down and not hog up your hard drive usage. I do not know how to adjust the paging on the RAM, but this covers how to upgrade without trouble. It is also a cheap way to make your Windows 10 laptop faster.

Thank you. I knew this was fairly easy. Still thank you - especially for the admonitions of caution! I have c55d which I've owned for a couple of years now (as of today probably two years, now). I think that and installing an SSD will greatly help

I upgraded my Toshiba Satite with a free 240GB Inland SSD I got and went from 6gb of oem ram to 16gb of Patriot DDR3 1600mhz this difference especially in graphics performance is insane I got a 20x increase in FPS I used to get 3 FPS trying to play a game now it’s steady 60FPS just crazy and so much faster and I’m on memory hog windows 8.1, when I go to 10 it should run well, it’s an 8 years old laptop that amazingly still runs good mines an AMD A-6 APU with R4000 graphics

Have you verified it's.running the RAM at 1600MHz? That's pretty good for a laptop.

I currently have 4GB of ram on my Toshuba Satalite Laptop. If I upgrade to 16 will I see a significant increase in speed? Would my laptop be snappier? Is you're snappier after installing the 8GBS?

when you said "reset the machine" did you mean like reset windows and the hard drive and all that? or just the cmos or whatever

I set the clock with a 12 hr. Time period and it will not go past the Toshiba screen leading innovation. What can I do? I put in Eight gigs and already had four gigs. Do you think that my system can handle that much memory. I'm sure I installed it correctly.

Hey Stephen Im curious did this increase the speed of your laptop? because I saw after you went to task manager and your disk usage was at 100% like mine always seems to be? Im considering buying more RAM but there is no point if this doesnt help speed up the system?

Disk usage has nothing to do RAM. To see any performance differences youd want to compare pre and post RAM installation RAM utilization. And of course the more RAM available, the more programs can run at the same time without crashing

Assuming after several years this isnt helpful but to fix your problem simple way would be to reinstall windows, harder but more long term way would be to swap out to an or add on an ssd to the HDD

What's the point of making a video if you are going to shut the camera off and not show people the difficult parts as you describe it and help show how people can avoid struggling with it themselves?

It's difficult to install the RAM because you were trying to put it in flat. You need to tilt it at an angle, maybe like 30-45 degrees then insert it gently all the way in the RAM slot, then press it down flat and the levers on the sides will hold it in place.

Just bear in mind, many laptops use soldered-on CPUs/GPUs, so you may not be able to upgrade those. I don't know about your particular laptop. Even if they are socketed, you must get something which is compatible with that socket & motherboard.

Save up for a better laptop or build a gaming desktop. Seriously. Do not bother trying to upgrade this laptop to a “gaming laptop” you’ll be very disappointed. Even if you managed to change the cpu and add or change the gpu you’ll soon notice it’s not built to handle the heat your new components will create under stress and you’ll just end up killing the laptop. Asus g751jy is my gaming laptop and it’s awesome. Otherwise w the money you’d save to upgrade this, I’m sure you can build a far better desktop.

where is the CMOS battery located? I went thru the motherboard both sides I cannot find it. It keeps losing its memory when i pull the battery out.

Christopher Ryan 1:36 is the only battery I pull out, so I assume it's in there.

@@streetbizzmixtapes I watched my system monitor while playing youtube videos, at 480 p. My CPU usage goes to 80 and 90 some percent usage, while my memory usage also goes up near the top of 80 and 90%, with some memory swapping. I can;t speed up the CPU easily, but I can increase memory to 8gb. Sixteen GB ram would not speed up my system if I'm not maxing out the 8 GB, which isn't likely in the next 8 mo. or so, when I hope to have a faster Laptop. I also believe memory swapping is taking CPU time, and will see if the CPU usage drops after my upgrade in a week or so. Still trying to find if I need one module or two. I see no reason a faster hard drive will fix my problem. btw, Was able to watch my network activity, which was not significant. I had thought my ISP was throttling my Internet speed. Nope, not my problem. So, this guy removed a 4GB module to added 2 4GB modules! What? Were they not compatible with each other? I think he wasted a 4GB module for nothing. Just needed to add ONE 4 GB module. 4 plus 4 = 8 What we saw here was 4 + 4 + 4 = 8

No. Two sticks have to have the same amount of RAM.
