She died in childbirth. That's how he "lost" her. It's an epically sad song (in three parts).

Stevie was the lead singer of the Easybeats which were at one time Australia's top selling rocbands before he went solo , this song is one of my favourites but its also one of the saddest . He had a sad life which was plagued with tragedy and self inflicted substance abuse . Such a troubled talent that deserved a different outcome.

The very definition of classic pop song. To all the producers out there pop doesn’t have to be shite. Take a risk and give us art.

A classic song, one of my favourites from my childhood. It is about love, life, and loss. Stevie Wright was in Chelmsford Hospital in NSW for treatment for drug addiction, there were horrific things happening at Chelmsford and many patients died. I think Stevie Wright had multiple shock therapy treatments there and he was lucky to get out of there alive but he suffered the effects of that place and also the drug abuse in life. He also suffered a stroke. He passed away some years ago (2015-16?) and there was a public funeral in Sydney. He had such a good and honest energy. The song is about meeting love, knowing love and life, and the woman died giving birth.

Stevie’s life was tragic. It was touching the way so many great musicians banded together to raise money to help him out, and also for drug addiction charities. Stevie of course spent time with the Youngs at Villawood (before it became the horror it is now) waiting to be allowed to live in Australia - hard to imagine a world without the Easybeats, AC/DC, and of course this magical song.

Imagine the rise and then you'll understand the fall you are the hottest singer in Aus then you get to England and you're meeting JAGGER the Beatles the small faces and myriads of stars life isn't easy money is short then Friday explodes into the charts you are finally someone in this far off land the follow up fails and talk is rife of one hit wonders then Good times charts and the rock world is excited bad habits creep in and at the age of 21 it's over what an empty feeling the fact that against the odds he rose again and may I tell you he was a great guy

In the Chelmsford private hospital he was also given a cocktail of drugs that nobody knows what was in there. The drugs put him in a deep sleep for 2 weeks maybe more nobody knows how 😢. Between the two he suffered from brain Damage for the rest of his life 😢😢. Because they put him in a coma all the time that he was in there. He tried to get help for his drug addiction 3 times at least. After the Chelmsford private hospital where his brain was Fried He went to the Westmont rehabilitation center that didn't work either. 2 weeks after his release from there he was charged with trying to break into a house. Not sure what happened to him about that? But he was Arested for having drugs on him. Yes he did have a very sad life. I think that he died almost broke. Living with his partner Faye Walker. His last resident was a 24 -7 nursing home because he was unable to care for him self 😢😢😢

Ok so Vander and young wrote this song for Steve and the three were Australia's First Rock and roll success... Vander and young went on to form flash in the pan with hey st Peter, down amongst the dead men... They wrote yesterday's hero for John Paul Young and wrote lots of ACDC songs as George Young is Malcolm young and Angus Young brother,🤔 I think ❤🇦🇺... Many other great songs also and other artists... brilliant ❤️

Evie was also covered by Suzie Quatro The also wrote for George's little brother's band AC/DC George is Malcolm and Angus'sYoung oldest brother played bass for them and is Stevie Young father. Vanders and Young also wrote and Produced for The Ted Mulry Gang, Rose Tatoo, Cheaters, The Angels or Angel City as the were know in the US, John Paul Young, William Shakespeare and Mark Williams and one song for Grace Jones and Meatloaf. Here's a live version: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/orammKV1m727iJc.html Stevie Wright was a bit of a rock and roll casualty unfortunately. Some really great work with the Easybeats in the 60s, but kind of very erratic and chaotic for a lot of the time after that until his early death.
