4 years later still useful, the hardest part was to take the cover off. My rubber was actually falling apart, not just dirt. Now it is louder but unsticky. Thanks

This actually worked! Thank you very much! PSA: when rubbing the rubber with the Q-tip do it slowly without applying too much force because mine got slightly scraped but worked despite everything.

This was exactly what I needed. To be honest, my little pad had a little part where the trigger had basically dug into it (too much holding down RT in Trackmania) and so the rubber kind of gripped the trigger making it stick. I just kind of reformed it a little with a screw driver and sort of cleaned it up. seems better now and now I know how to fix it, thanks!

Thanks for the video. My 2 weeks XBOX One controller right trigger has started to stick for no reason. Despite of the warranty your video worth a shot. Took the plastic off, and cleaned the pad with 70% alcohol I happened to have. It seems that the small trigger pad is not the exact size as the trigger plastic, therefore a small pieces of the pad are getting cut by the plastic and the glue is passing through. Did it for the left trigger as well in case. So far so good.

Fixed my sticking trigger quicker than the actual runtime of this video due to your instructions. Thank you sir. I'll eventually have to replace the trigger pad, when opening it I noticed they put the trigger pad on a bit crooked, so sometimes when pressing the trigger down hard it'll make a slight sound like it's hitting plastic and not the rubber trigger pad which is because it doesn't hit the entire thing when pressed down due to them sticking the pad on almost on angle. I didn't want to adjust the pad because there's adhesive on the bottom, I'll wait until it get worn out more and thanks to video it'll be a cheap and quick fix vs buying another 69 dollar controller.

I was getting ready to just buy a new controller....again. Your video helped me save it! I did end up breaking one of the little clips that hold it in, but only one, so it is fine. Just watch out to other trying, be gentle with the cover. It is just plastic, remember. Thank you again!

Untill i found your video i was going about the wrong way, i tought it was sticky inside so i started rubbing the part where it connects with the circuit board and it did nothing, frustrated i kept searching and i found your video, i actually did not think that just rubbing @ where u showed for a few seconds will solve the problem so easely, bless you!

I tried doing this thinking the trigger was just sticky, but when I opened it it I found out A little piece of the controllers little white locks actually came out and got stuck where the trigger was, so I got it out and the problem got resolved

Great fix! My little rubber pad started to come apart as soon as I started to rub it. I either used too much rubbing alcohol, or more likely in my case it's just an older controller with a breaking down pad. No more stickiness either way though, thanks!

First of all, thank you so much for making this video! My Elite 2 controller was having the same problem. After I saw your video, I noticed that the back of the Elite 2 is different from the standard Xbox gamepad. This works. Unfortunately the cause of this problem is that little pad that they put at the base where the trigger makes contact with the main controller housing. That little rubber piece breaks down over time, and the fragments are what's causing the sticking. When I opened mine I saw that The little pad was almost completely worn down. This should be a recall and Microsoft should replace our controllers. Because now, my controller makes a very loud clicking sound every time I use the trigger because it's making contact plastic on plastic and that little pad has worn down to nothing. Perhaps we should start a class action lawsuit. Or perhaps Microsoft should just do the right thing and fix these for us.

Same problem on the series s/x controllers. Took one apart but the rubber receiver under the trigger had fallen apart a bit. If you use a straw on can of wd40 and very gently spray as little as possible in there it does the trick as well as they’re quite hard to pull apart :)

I used an alcohol prep wipe, works just as well or maybe even better than a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol.

Works like a charm! This saved me from buying a new controller so I thought I'd 'buy you a coffee' instead. Thanks man :)

Good video, straight to the point without annoying intro and stuff. My problem was that the rubber was falling apart so I just removed it. It is just sound dampening anyway. It's glued onto the plastic, so make sure to remove the glue as well. I used a tooth pick for that. Also a small tip, a .50 BMG casing worked like a charm for the initial prying of the panel open.

Am I the only one that thinks it's absurd that I have to disassemble a NEW $50 limited edition controller (first-party) to fix a manufacturing defect? This is PRECISELY why I bought a Microsoft branded controller and not a cheaper knock-off. I expect this to happen with a third-party knock-off. I've had this controller for less than a week. I bought it to replace a lightly used "official" Xbox 360 Windows controller with a faulty right bumper (little button above the trigger). The 360 controller also had a squeaky control stick on arrival too. This is the last Microsoft hardware I'll buy. I should have spent my money on a Razer or Sony controller. What a joke.

I did this and it worked perfectly for like 1 month and it got sticky again. I ended up removing the small pad that the trigger hits, now it never sticks and it’s been months w/ no problems. Thanks

Hi guys, If the problem persists after following this, try just peeling off the pad with a flathead screwdriver. You should never experience a sticky trigger again (just a slightly noisier one)

Thanks for making this video. The pads on my controller were pretty worn, so I just removed them. The triggers actually feel better now with the more solid click, and they're only marginally louder (though maybe that's because the pads were already deteriorated).

Thank you, I was playing human fall flat and ecause the game requires you to press the triggers for so long both of them got stuck, You'd think MS would have found a solution to this issue by now, they just need to replace the pads with a material that can absorb the impact of pressing the triggers down, but don't get stick, it can't bethat hard right?

Thanks! This happened already with my series S controller. Didn't even need to pop off the back though, just swabbed the edge of the trigger with a small amount and then used the trigger a few times and it worked its way in.

Cheers dude, my rubber had come off and was wedging between the tricker. So I just had to pull it out. With how the clips are on the pad you're better to pop the top of the side like you did, then do the other side at the top as there are more clips that side. Ultimately I'm sorted now so thanks for the content

FUNNY STORY: so my left trigger was sticking like crazy during a battlefield 1 match, so in my head I thought “oh it needs to be greased up”... all I had on hand for some reason was personal liquid lubricant so I poured a few drops into the crack of my trigger. It worked for about 5 minutes till it sealed up completely and that’s when I came to this video. After literally two minutes of following this video it started to work flawlessly and I haven’t had an issue since. You’re doing gods work my friend. 😂

I have the XBOX ONE X Project Scorpio Edition controller and I obviously didn't want to buy a new one as you can't get the Scorpio Edition controller from XBOX. My left trigger was having the same problem and was super annoying every single time I played a game. This helped a lot.

this happened to me with my elite 2 controllers and I have a warranty and all but my controller has to mess up during quarantine and I can’t take that part u took off cause on the elite 2 it only has 2 parts that are the back and front Update: the triggers seem to be less sticky now since I've been using the same controller for while now

Thank you for this tutorial! After opening that cover I came to find that the little pad where the trigger makes contact had shifted and the source of the stickiness was the trigger hitting the spot where the pad was supposed to be. The trigger had picked up some of that sticky residue that’s meant to be under the pad to keep it in place. To fix this, I got some tweezers to realign the pad and then I used rubbing alcohol to clean the part of the trigger that touches the pad. So far no more stickiness, but I think i might have to reopen it in the future if that pad gets loose again.

I can't get mine to open

After just two days with my Series X, the right trigger started sticking. When I was trying to clean it with alcohol, the pad came loose so I just removed it, but then I was stuck cleaning up so much glue... Now I got a trigger that doesn't stick, but clacks because of no pad... *sigh*

Thanks for the fix! The rubber pad on mine had actually come off of the controller and was stuck to the trigger. I actually like the feel much more without it now.
