In this scene is when Ling Buyi realised that Yuan ShanJian had actually fallen for Shaoshang as well. Ling Buyi had thought that Lou Yao was the only threat and wanted to reassure himself that Shaoshang had really let Lou Yao go thus the reason Ling Buyi brought Shaoshang along to the wedding. Shaoshang had not fallen in love with Ling Buyi yet she was just reasoning with He Zhaojun during their private talk. Shaoshang has committed to the engagement she must start to get along with Ling Buyi.

@@twinflames8600 i think you are not reading my comment starting from 'in this scene' there is no mention about first meeting and such just that LBY in this scene realised that YSJ actually has feeling for Shaoshang as well.

I doubt Ling Buyi would do something so petty as bring Shaoshang to her ex's new engagement in a super awkward and rather mournful situation just to "reassure himself" that she'd let go of him. Especially since he'd only just been granted to marry her and the two of them still needed to sort everything out. He went there because it was proper, because A'Yao and Zhaojun needed guests, and because he's the kind of guy to tackle situations up front rather than cowering from gossip. In fact, as soon as he got wind of the evil girls badmouthing Shaoshang, he made an amazing show of openly threatening them into submission. In someone else's house. During someone else's banquet. When he was a guest. In our society that would be absurdly inappropriate, arrogant, disrespectful. But here it was different because, from his point of view, he was fixing a problem. His presence at the banquet was an honor for the hosting families, given his much, much higher status. He didn't feel threatened by Lou Yao because he's at a much more mature stage in life than him; but also because he knew that neither A'Yao nor Shaoshang were the kind of people to stay hung up on each other when married to someone else, and that their love after all had been a rather juvenile one. Ling Buyi's problems with Shaoshang were only about the two of them: how to get her to love him, how to find a balance in their relationship, how to blunt the edges of both their characters. Then there's the matter of his secret mission/identity/plot, but that's for later.

@@pirimpallopirimpalli4932 there was a scene filmed that LBY and SS having a fight when he arrived to pick up SS to attend the wedding which was cut. SS did not want to go to ah yao's wedding. LBY insisting SS went to the wedding reception was not petty but to me more of a reassurance to him that SS had really let ah yao go (LBY had witnessed SS and ah yao together multiple times in the past, no matter how childish it may seem - SS liked and cared for ah yao first) and also to show the public or other guests that they are officially engaged and no one can do anything about it besides stop assuming that LBY has any other prospects line up as he was rumored to be with princess yuchang but he could not dismiss these rumors so the best way was to bring his actual fiancee to her previous fiance wedding to prove that LBY is engaged to SS AND they are both the better people as they did not feel embarrassed for going in the first place (queue to mdm lou words to mdm cheng as Lou li & wan ling were trying to smear SS during the reception).

Yuan never let an opportunity pass to insult Shaoshang and her suitors, even to the end. How did he hope to win her heart with this behavior, irrespective of his “support” when Shaoshang and Buyi parted for 5 years? Love means respect. Buyi proved this belief at every step unlike Yuan. Buyi even put aside his pain and disappointment when it appeared that Shaoshang had chosen someone else. Buyi should have been the role model to follow for Yuan, but with his personality he appears truly incapable of change. So it was a fitting end for him to be left with unrequited love.

Don’t please… he just didn’t know & too pride to love in a romantic way🥹 until last minutes (but it was tooooo late) He & LBY raised in very different background. LBY had romantic feelings came from the King and gentle like the Queen. He knew hw 2 CONQUERED NN’ heart🥰

Yeah, he so annoying in this scene especially because he was being mean towards Shaoshang at her lowest time, publicly humiliating her like those mean aristocratic girls but later he changed. Also, he defended her at her engagement party at her house. Then he provoked her again face to face lol This man is a controversy to himself. He can’t stand other people humiliating her instead he would rather do it himself to her face! 🤣
