Elyse Myers

3 ай бұрын

I told KZfaq that I've always wanted to paint...and then I was met with so much kindness in the comments encouraging me to try even if I wasn't great at it at the start. In this video, I'm giving painting my best shot while I share life updates, tell a bunch of stories, and make myself a meal I've been craving for a few weeks now. (If you've never had super fries, you are missing OUT.)
If painting is your thing, you should load this video up and paint alongside of me! But if you're not much of a crafter, no stress. (I stress enough for the both of us in this video.)

I just wanted to say that I'm happy you signed the painting. Signing your work isn't about declaring you or your work important; it's a finishing touch to celebrate completing the piece. I'd also suggest adding a date, even if it's just the year. That way you can better track your journey!

I think there will always be a version of me in other people’s head that doesn’t actually exist and I had to accept that pretty early on in my career online. But it’s particularly terrifying when I’ve been hired to be myself in front of a large group of people because being able to see people’s faces and look in their eyes while they evaluate the physical you vs. the idea of you they built in your head is really intimidating!

I grew up in Lincoln, NE and lived there off and on until I was in my mid 30s. The tornado siren test every Wednesday at 11:00 was something I pretty much took for granted. What I just realized is that for the past 20 years that I’ve lived in Oregon I’ve never heard any of those big sirens for anything. I kind of miss them. I also miss big skies, summer thunderstorms and fireflies.

fun painting fact: if you ever need to make a color dull (take the neon or brightness out of it) add a couple drops of the contrasting color. So, for orange, you would add in a bit of blue. Just make sure the shades are the same! (i.e. tangerine's opposite is sky blue).

I've been teaching myself to paint for the last couple of years. And the things that much better artists have taught me is that EVERY painting goes through an ugly stage and that no matter how much you practice, you still know you painted it so you will always see the imperfections. I love your painting. I think I'll go paint some fruit.

I'm so happy you're doing more of these, or i guess doing these more consistently?? I love this content. Actually, I'm not sure there's a piece of content you've ever made that I didn't love😂 but I am still loving these not-completely-curated-and-planned vids. Your coffee talks were always so fun, but it's nice getting a more rounded view of you and it's so quietly comforting and relatable seeing you struggle with things during the day *AND* watching you get wins over your anxiety and stress. Thank you for deciding to open yourself to the internet years ago 🫶🏻

Honestly, your videos make me want to make videos because I absolutely love how you are so sincerely and genuinely you. I get self conscious about how much I talk and how I never *really* know how my stories are going to end. I feel like we have similar vibes and I enjoy your content so much! You make me feel like being myself is worth sharing with others because I get so much joy out of what you share.☺️

Omg soooo relatable!!!! Every painting I've ever attempted and/ or "finished" have all ended in me painting 5 layers of black to "start over" because I'm too OCD to let it alone and hypercritical 😂

I used to work at a grocery store (in the pharmacy, but there was definitely a rule to check the bottom of the carts for anyone checking people out). The way that works is that either there should be a courtesy clerk (bagger) who offers to lift it to be scanned or who notifies the cashier. The cashier can also use mirrors that are strategically placed to see the bottom of the cart, and if there are items there, they have a handheld scanner they can reach or take around to scan the items. They don’t have to (and shouldn’t) make it a confrontation. You’re right, they don’t get paid enough to be trying to stop shoplifters.

At grocery stores they have mirrors on the other cashier station across from them so they can see what’s under your cart.

for the cashier story with the toilet paper, I'm not sure about the US but in the Netherlands cashiers have a mirror that can look into the cart and behind the counter, both for this and also for safety reasons

wait the painting was so cute! i love it so much! it's okay if not all the paintings turn out like that one. art is art. and sometimes the beauty of the piece is clear in the final product, and sometimes the beauty of the piece was the experience and memory of making it (just like a full roll of lens cap photos)

Former cashier....that 100% is part of the training I got. There are reflective panels of metal and you're supposed to look at the reflection and see if the bottom of the cart is empty or not.

As soon as I heard the siren I was thinking ‘Ah, Wednesday afternoons in Omaha!’ And then I was suddenly doubting 30 years of memory and wondering if they always happened on Wednesdays or some other day. And then 10 seconds later you saved my sanity a bit! 🤣 11:15 do what Uncle Roger says when ‘measuring’, just use feelings! 15:16 oh my giddy aunt, where did you get this idea?!? That looks so good.
