It's been almost two months since I got rid of my smartphone. I have made some observations I did not expect. Also smartphone addiction is far worse and much more widespread than I realized.

Dear friends! Some are commenting on the links in the video description. I want to point out that you can access and use all of those from a laptop or desktop computer just like we used to do back in "the old days", and you actually do not need a smartphone to post to social media sites like Instagram. (A quick internet search will tell you how to post to Instagram in your web browser.)

All of us who remember life without mobile phones and the internet can remember a different peace a calmness and a freedom I think I miss it

The thing with "boredom", what most perceive as the terrifyingly quiet empty spaces and places, that's where freedom, inspiration and possibility is.

All my 8 year old daughter's friends are addicted to their phones. I am shocked. I get my daughter on a bike, doing art, reading books, playing board games, crafting, fish tank hobbying, gardening etc. We are alive to live not to be screen zombies.

I really can't disagree with any of this, appreciate it being said. Many years ago my mom got rid of her phone (including landline), her tv, radio, & microwave oven. I bought & shipped a simple laptop for her to use, but she donated it as soon as she received it. She only used payphones & letters via usps. Though seemingly extreme, I admired her commitment to it.

I'm an 81 yearold Ozark hillbilly and cell phones dont work here in the Ozark mountians where i live, so i just have a land line. And i really dont like people that much anyway. I'm a leather crafter and enjoy my solitude.

I’ve been thinking about going back to an analogue phone. I’ve had this smart phone for 2 years. I only use it to text my family. I never use the internet outside of my house so I walk around disconnected. I observe a world I don’t like compared to the world I grew up in. Just my opinion. I don’t want to be tracked or pestered when I’m outdoors.

As a teen, there’s a lot of pressure from those around you not to listen to people who say phones are harmful. They insist there’s nothing wrong with it and you’re kind of an outcast and a weirdo if you have a flip phone or no phone at all. But I’m tired of my phone. I watched a video from the early 2000s, and the people were just there. No phone to look at.. if they were bored they just stared at something, or talked to someone. My generation just looks like zombies. Everyone is constantly on their phone, and talking to a stranger or even someone you know when you’re bored is rare. I’m so done. I wanna throw my phone in the ocean and just live a normal life

I'm old enough to remember when there were no cell phones and no computers. Kind of miss those days. We used to go partying in cabins in the woods, faaaaar away from people. No way to contact anyone. Believe it or not, we survived!! :D

Its the quick dopamine hits. Not just with cellphones, the whole system is pin-pointed to detract you from being present with yourself.

I miss having to call my friends on their landlines, having a quick chat with their mum or dad ( often asking if I was going to join them for dinner) and then meeting my friends at a certain spot at a certain time to go ride or skate... if you couldn’t get hold of them on the phone you’d have to pick a handful of regular spots and just hope you could find them! Sweet sweet days!

I constantly think about getting rid of this damn thing. I do a lot less of the things I use to like doing and instead spend a lot of time watching KZfaq.
