What most of us are after is ultimately feeling good in our bodies. With that being said, we can't ignore how primal, or animal, movement exercises impact how we feel in our bodies for the better. In this video, Strength Side provides some tried and true animal movements that you can start practicing today! Start with one and see how you feel. Consistency is key so even though it may end up feeling unnatural at first, if you keep at it you'll see big changes in how your body responds!

I did never crawl as a baby. I did jump from sitting to stand after one year old. At 50, middle the pandemic, I started to rewire my brain and body and started to explore areas I never used to use. Many people look at these movements as unreachable to get. But since our brains and bodies are fully designed to perform them, they are easier to do as they initially seem to our blocked sensors we call senses. @@martbau25 while I don’t necessarily crawl everyday, I’m on all four on the floor doing yoga exercises. Downward dog, etc. I’m on my hands daily practicing handstands against the wall. Watching tv I’m on all fours in crab position for at least 10 of every 60 minutes. Crawling is more fun than workout for me. I follow “use it or lose it” philosophy to move dynamically throughout the day

I've been thinking about it for weeks. Toddlers and up to maybe 10 year olds are fantastic fitness coaches. They are learning what comes naturally and what the human body should be doing to be functional and strong. It's so obvious and hardly anyone realizes it!

So I’d have to wear gloves if I try this on my lawn and I’d be anxious what my neighbours would think. 😂 probably better to do this in my gym and some of the easier ones like crab crawls indoors in my hallway. I’m also moving away from conventional shoes to barefoot shoes with flat feet. I’m 51 but I feel I can do it with time, patience and practice.

interesting! he gives some valid points on how people are constantly going to gyms and moving in a straight line, but we are neglecting all the other planes that we need to move in to keep our body healthy. For example, have you ever started an activity and realized that a whole different set of muscles are being used? That's what these new exercise regimens are designed to do. Pilates, yoga, tai chi, and kickboxing are some of the exercises designed to make you use muscles that you didn't know you had. It's kind of like basketball players using geometry to perfect their shot, they're training their skills at shooting by flexing their mental muscle. Take ice hockey players, they can train in ballet because there is some amount of grace and rhythm involved in shooting a puck into the goal, all while trying to balance on a 2mm blade on ice.

I've already picked up a few of these crawls on your other videos, and I've seen insane increases in my mobility and explosiveness while bouldering. And it's a great routine to do on rest days: intensive enough to get the whole body flowing but relaxed enough to not put any strain on your body. Keep it up Strength Side!

I saw some short video about the crawl switch a couple of months ago and started doing that, very badly I might add. I was amazed at how it developed so many muscles in my upper shoulders and back, and it felt so good! At 67 it's difficult to maintain strength, my gym exercises with machines and weights weren't cutting it. But just that one movement did so much, and then I finally found out what it's called, so I was able to look up all the resources on animal flow and animal movement. My shoulders feel so good now! As I've gotten older I've noticed that one of the main things that gives your body that old man look is loss of upper body strength. I look so much better with my shoulders and chest filled out with muscle.

Squats, bicep curls, even walking. Body gets in a rut. Lately I have been walking backwards and sideways. Find all sorts of unused muscles. ☺

Excellent video, gentlemen. I've been in the movement game myself for a while. My only additions to what you show here is to hang from something for time, and to pause all the animal movements from time to time (like when someone calls out, "Stop!") and hold these positions isometrically. I have rehabbed an old shoulder problem with the crab-the one-arm version, if you can keep your hips up, is particularly good. Great work!

After only a few days I've discovered that my IBS symptoms including intestinal spasms started to go away. I walk differently now, have more energy, my muscles are developing nicely and there is a massive shift in my mood. Sometimes after doing the crawl for about 10 minutes I feel simply overjoyed. Doctors for 45 years didn't know how to help me and one week of bear walking did the trick! Isn't that amazing!?

Wow, For someone trying this for the first time this is a full body work out, even though I do regular gym work. It seems that it's just what I need for my mobility & core strength & should help for my simple everyday functional activities too - just my general moving around like bending down to pick things up, putting things in cupboards, putting on shoes , snowboard boots & bindings etc. Might sound silly but I've noticed these sorts of things gradually getting more difficult over the last few years. I do realise that it's due more to lack of full movement rather than age. Great introductory video to Animal Flow imo. Thanks.

these are great I highly recommend crawling BACKWARDS or any backwards movements like a sled drag. we are ALWAYS moving forwards and sitting is actually also pushing the pelvis and hips forwards

Permanently added crawling to my routine. Wish I'd been doing this for 5 years already! I'm playing with all of these in random combinations. I'm doing this daily now. I don't care what my neighbors think! :)

Is just to awaken those brain areas little by little kzfaq.infoawY6ZfBCBmE

I love the idea of animal movement because (1) it feels natural and (2) after just a few days, I can feel my muscles working in new ways. At the beginning, you mentioned, "the results are in: animalistic and primal styles of movement make people's bodies work better." I'd love to see that research, either linked here or in a separate video. Also, thanks for distilling the main movements into a self-contained video.

cool video! I love to exercise on fallen trees but where I live there arent so huge trees at all. it was kinda nice to see that I have already been doing many of these regulary but I am really inspired to try the other variations. I can totally relate to what Josh said about doing these in public. Fortunately nowadays I dont think about that anymore and can do movement freely almost anywhere.

This is something im very grateful in my karate training for. If you take traditional karate classes a lot of them have you do drills in a lot of the movements you showed here. As a kid I always wondered why, and thought it was some weird game race we did. But now that im older I realize i'm way more mobile and comfortable in doing weird lifting positions other people aren't. I'd say these movements are most important to teach to kids and teenagers. As for the whole stop-and-stare problem. Just learn to put on your earbuds, put on your favorite work out playlist, and let yourself sink into your own world. Once you do that, the stares no longer matter.
