E.B. White's strange book is given the bland treatment and a...Shyamalan script? Nostalgia Critic gives his thoughts on the 1999 hit Stuart Little.
Support this week's charity - www.mission22.com
Stuart Little is a 1999 American family comedy film loosely based on the novel of the same name by E. B. White. Directed by Rob Minkoff in his live action debut, the screenplay was written by M. Night Shyamalan and Greg Brooker, and stars Geena Davis, Hugh Laurie, and Jonathan Lipnicki, alongside the voices of Michael J. Fox and Nathan Lane.

This movie just had such a magical vibe to it. It's in it's own little world where talking mice who wear clothes and drive RC cars are just a normal thing in that universe, I love it. Plus Stuart himself is genuinely adorable and hasn't aged that badly considering how early the CGI was. It was one of those movies young me had on loop and would drive my parents nuts, lol.
@torstenscholz6243
@torstenscholz6243 8 ай бұрын
It's one of those films that work if you're able to make suspension of disbelief. The premise is of course nonsense, but if you accept that, it's a quite charming, decent film with some funny and some touching scenes. And the CGI effects really look quite impressive and have aged well for 1999 standard. Except for the mouths of the talking cats maybe, they look a bit awkward now and remind one of The Annoying Orange. 🤣🤣

I knew someone named Stuart around the time this movie came out. He was a teenager, about 13 or 14, and he was a late bloomer, which means he was tragically short for his age. He hit his growth spurt eventually and as of last time I saw him, he had reached a perfectly average height for a guy, but I sometimes wonder if he reacts to this movie the way the NC reacts to the show Doug.

Ah, yes. Stuart Little: The movie that taught me at a young age that some movies barely follow the books at all. I already knew they were never exactly the same, but Stuart Little showed me just how different they could be. I read a little bit of the book before seeing the movie and actually asked my mom if Stuart Little was really a mouse or just a person who looked like a mouse. She just stared at me like I was an idiot. I guess she never read the book. LOL. Anyways, 90’s movies have always been weird to me. I was born in 1999, so I don’t even remember the small amount of the decade that I was alive for. It’s surreal to me me when I see a time period that’s so much like modern times- yet something seems just a little bit different.

I remember this was one of the first VHS tapes I checked out in Kindergarten from my school's library, (and there's a picture of me in the yearbook of that year proudly holding it up as I was walking away!) When I was a kid I had trouble making it through Movies that weren't the ones my parents owned and raised me on (being mainly Studio Ghibli, and Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music and a few others) and could scare very easily, with very minor scenes such as the hitch breaking from a wagon in The Amazing Panda Adventure, or the opening to Cars which was very intense for a sensitive 5-7 year old, so it is somewhat surprising I was able to stick with this one all the way through... I suppose the whimsy that makes up most of the film was enough to keep me captivated and offset the more scary or intense scenes, like the controller breaking during the boat race or the ones with Smokey which I barely remember except when he falls from the tree : ).

The actor that played the bald detective was Det. Corsetti in HOMICIDE: Life In The Streets. He commits suicide in a very well acted gut wrenching episode. I was sorta expecting to see his bloated water logged corpse from the episode when the parents were looking at that book. Let alone a House joke.

I prefer the second one to mainly because it was a better movie and it actually did what a sequel should do. (continue the story of the original)

I liked the first two movies, but I remember the third one being boring to me. Might be wrong though, I've seen it like ten years ago or something. But then again, same with the other two...

I love this movie and it holds a nostalgic place in my heart. Still, at 19:00, I pictured Stuart throwing his hands up and excitedly shouting, "My parents are dead! My parents are DEAD!" 😂
