Have to agree. We spend so much time chasing Esoterica blends that we forget GLP made a damn near perfect trifecta with Gaslight, Quiet Nights, and Sixpence. Rivals any tobacco in the planet IMO.

gaslight is my favorite pipe. i smoke it year round all day, but then again i smoke english or balkans almost exclusively.

Tried Gaslight a couple of months ago and have to agree, great blend, love the "creosote" flavor. The creosote part reminds me of my favorite Scotch (Ardbeg).

Why limit yourself only to revisiting blends you previously liked? Determining how you may still like or have outgrown a particular blend is without doubt very interesting, but exploring how your palate mave have developed a taste for something you previously didn't like is equally as interesting. Remember retrying a food you hated as a child, only to enjoy it as an adult? I'm not saying you should jump back into the Captain Black or Brunello Flake, but something like St. James Flake for example?

The new GL Pease "Spark Plug" is a creosote mix on steroids, nearer the strength of "Jack Knife" or "Triple Play", IMO, and quite a treat!

The tobaccos revisited is an excellent idea! In honor of this video I am revisiting gaslight after about a year and a half. When I first purchased this tobacco I smoked it in one of my briar pipes disliked the way it tasted; the creosote smell or flavors. I am now smoking it in one of my meerschaum pipes and I am loving it! Maybe it is the extra aging in the glass jar or just the meerschaum allowing me to taste all the nuances of this blend. I am glad I kept this tobacco and did not trade it away to one of my pipe smoking friends.Thank-you Bradley!

“Gaslight” was my first plug tobacco and I absolutely loved it! I like to take this with Peet’s dark roast coffee in the mornings or evenings. Great blend to start your series! Looking forward to more “revisited” videos. P.s : next maybe Peterson “Old Dublin”.

Based off your last review, I bought a BIG tin of Gaslight (smaller ones were unavailable). Still have a bunch in a big jar. Fantastic stuff.

Bradley. I’m working through my second tin of this and tonight while retrohaling I got a flavor profile I hadn’t experienced yet. It was almost like a toffee nutty flavor but not sweet. Can’t put my finger on it. Simply loving this blend though. It’s consistent and I’m still finding depth to it every time I pack a bowl. Thanks for the reviews. Great stuff.

This is better than reviewing cross-over blends and Elizabethan matches - both of which always seem to disappoint you.

It really shines with a dram of Ardbeg 10 when the moon is up and the stars are out and all are tucked in their beds.

Great idea for a series. It's going to be interesting to see if time changes your opinions on anything. My feelings on Gaslight are right in line with yours. I wasn't 100% sure about it the first time I tried it but by the time I got through the first cake I was totally hooked.

That description of treated wood was perfect, I'd struggled to give it a full description myself - tar, industry that kinda thing but you really set the scene with that! I recently started enjoying Gaslight, it's not available here in the UK, it has to be sent from Switzerland. First time I had it I went very light headed, I now only have small bowls of it.

I got leather right away and this is a favorite of mine....im new and at my very fist tin smell I didn't like it but on the pipe pack I fell in love on the charting light. This is delightful. This pack I bought was gaslight, tripleplay, and jack knife. This is also the order I like them in. Also the moisture level I didn't notice because when I rubbed it out I let is sit for 5-10 minutes

I’m new in the hobby..... I’ve smoked Gaslight a couple of times and it is a mouthful of excellent taste and bouquet. I really enjoy it! Great Revisit......keep going with these videos. You have my vote for not reviewing aromatics....waiting for your next video about pipe tobaccos😎

As for me, I smoke this daily, and have been for about 5 years now, except for a hiatus of about a year and a half when I smoked nothing at all. However, I do cellar it for about 2 years before I smoke it. Don't get me wrong... It is an excellent blend straight from the factory, but I find the aging does tend to take the edges off of it. And I believe this is one tobacco which is going to continue to improve with even more aging. I buy it in the 8 ounce tin, and when I get it, I jar it in 1 ounce sizes. When I open a jar, I slice the whole plug into about 1/16th inch slices, and mix it well. When I pack a bowl, I make sure to mix in the finer bits with the courser ones. Other than that, there is nothing special about the way I pack it. But it does take a bit of drying... I usually let the quantity I am going to smoke sit out to dry about half an hour before I pack it. It has been hard for me to find a tobacco as balanced and consistent smoking through the whole bowl, but this one has that quality. It does get a bit richer toward the bottom of the bowl, but I find it to be pretty rich throughout, so no complaints there. Give cellaring it a try... I think you will be even more pleased with it.

Very considerate of you to revisit Gaslight. I also enjoy the blend very much. I have noticed some of my associates did not so much enjoy and I think that is due to the preparation. I enjoy the cutting myself but this blend does not work well for the hasty or those without a good knife!

C&D Bow Legged Bear is my replacement for Nightcap, even though it's a everything but the kitchen sink blend. It's replaced Nightcap as my mew favorite. My have to try this and Father Dempsey.

Still a favorite of mine, though I agree not an appealing hot weather smoke. On a cold, rainy day or anytime during the winter though it's a tough one to beat.

Possibly my favorite G.L. Pease blend. Funny you should mention creosote and lakeshore docks.....when trying to describe the flavor of this one to my wife I asked her to imagine a blend with a few shavings of Stearn's Wharf pilings in the mix!!!

Ordered Gaslight after watching this video. It arrived a few days ago. The tin note is very bold. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it. I decided to smoke it out of my Poker this morning with a strong cup of black coffee. I think I have found the perfect early morning blend! I love Latakia, Virginia, Oriental blends. Funny thing is I've been looking for a blend like this with forward Latakia and backend sweetness. I thought I would have to find a blend that also included Black Cavendish in order to achieve that. I just watched the video again and I believe you're spot on about this blend. Thanks.

Gaslight is my mushroom meal

I’ve been an occasional pipe smoker for the past 14 years and I recently really became a regular pipe smoker. I found that I love English blends and my regular everyday smokes are Sutliff Heavy English and Peter Stokkebyes Proper English. This is the first tin non bulk tobacco I have ever bought and I think this video made me understand that it’s the Latakia that I really love in the English blends. I will say that compared to bulk tobaccos this one really does seem to have a much higher nicotine level... I packed half a bowl and really felt it with this blend. Anyone want to comment on whether that’s the blend itself or because it’s from a Tin and I imagine a better quality product? I’m really loving this blend.

Great idea. I also think you maybe should revisit tobaccos that you've reviewed, that other people have recommended a lot, that you weren't crazy about. Just to see if you like them more now. May be more interesting than trying all the ones you loved, because you'll probably end up still liking 90% of them a lot. (I've only ever fallen out of love with one tobacco, so that's just my personal experience)

Just wanted to pass along a suggestion for your Elizabethan replacement search. JimInks, a well know online tobacco reviewer suggested Sutliff Match Dunhill Elizabethan (named "Victoria") He stated that it's perhaps the best value VaPer there is. It's based on the Murray's version of DE.

I used to love Gaslight. I know for a fact that I will probably never smoke it again from the way I feel about it now.

I smoke gaslight all day. I actually find it to be pretty heavy in the nicotine department. Seems to me that it might be a good blend for converting cigar smokers.

I only began the hobby in Jan. 2019, but this has been the only blend to give me nicotine sickness. I enjoyed it, but about 20-30 minutes in it hit me like a truck (swimmy headed and it put me in bed)...granted it was on an empty stomach, but wow, I hadn't felt that way since strong cigars in my 20's. I smoke Black House often and it never does this to me. So I'm scared to try Gaslight again. Recommendations? Let me guess: eat and go slow. lol
