In the Ramayana, when Indra comes to Ahalya dressed as his husband and makes love to her, Ahalya, even being innocent was punished by her husband, Rishi Gautam for infedility and was turned into stone. And here, Radhika Apte in the role of Ahalya tried to take revenge from any man who tries to take advantage of her by turning them into stone. The main catch is, had if Inspector Indra not went back to take advantage of Ahalya,deceived as her husband, he would have been saved and not turneed into stone. So every man who falls in the trap turns into stone.

The old man in the short film is legendary Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee...Soumitra Chatterjee also played the lead role in the film Apur Sansar, the third film of Satyajit Ray's Apu Trilogy. He is a living legend of Bengali cinema.

You just witnessed Soumitra Chatterjee. He's the guy that plays the main character in Satyajit Ray's Apur Sansar. He's a gem. And Korbin, he did remind me of Slughorn too after you pointed it out. Soumitra Chatterjee is a whole another level of acting.

Sujoy Ghosh made another short movie, Anukul. Written by Satyajit Ray himself, 4-5 decades back. Watch it to understand the mind of visionary director/writer's take on modern world.

To understand this properly, you need to go back a little in Hindu mythology to the story of Ahalya in Ramayana. Ahalya is the wife of the sage Gautama Maharishi. Created by the god Brahma as the most beautiful woman, Ahalya was married to the much older Gautama. Many Hindu scriptures say that she was seduced by Indra (the God of gods, the protagonist's namesake) and cursed by her husband for infidelity. Ahalya is cursed to become a stone and regains her human form after she is brushed by Rama's foot, who liberated her from the curse. Sujoy Ghosh’s Ahalya is the revenge and justice of modern Ahalya. Here she (Radhika Apte) is fooled and taken advantage by cop (in the guise of husband). Requesting for decades.... Short films: intl cafe night, rogan josh. Feature film: waiting. Both ric and korbin will love these 3. I feel ric will be nostalgic in watching intl cafe night, and will cry a bit watching waiting, and will appreciate the brilliance in rogan josh. Korbin will love all the 3 without having tears.

Just additional information. Rishi gautama also cursed indra when he cursed ahilya. He cursed that his body will have thousand holes and still he wouldn't die... He will live in pain... Later the curse got reversed when indra performed tapasya and asked for forgiveness... Since the curse of the sage is irreversible... He got a mild curse that he will get eyes in place of the holes. Hence his pain stopped.. That's why indra is also called sahstraksh.. Ie a person with thousand eyes. There is also another version of the story that ahilya was a virtuous woman, and her husband spent many years in tapsya and didn't pay heed to her physical needs. When indra arrived at her doorstep in the avtar of gautama, she knew that he was not her husband, still she felt proud that king of the gods wanted to be with her. And she couldn't control physical desires and fell for him.. Hence rishi got angry and cursed her. But definitely I like the modern take on this story

Bengali short films & parallel cinema always are so interesting to watch. Commercial cinema isn't worth. But most of serious/parallel cinema is really wonderful to watch.....so many good actors/directors from Bengal. Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, Aparna Sen, Rituporna, Sujoy Ghosh, Pradeep Sarkar,.....so so many wonderful directors . And then the endless list of great actors

But in this story ...she was the trickster...but ppl taking advantage are culpable

hello man. This short film was inspired by a sci-fi novel written by the great filmmaker Satyajit Ray "professor Shonku o ashchorjo putul" ( Professor Shonku and the stranger dolls). Nobody told you this, but Ray is one of the most celebrated writers of modern bengali literature apart from his filmmaking genius.

I hope you guys know that Badla is an adaptation of a Spanish film called Contratiempo. The only difference is that the genders are reversed. So, it was pre-written.

He has acted in so many masterpieces and after all these decades he still surprises us .He has also appeared as the lead in multiple Satyajit Ray films. Unadulterated genius is what he is!! There's no Bengali who'll disagree with this. BTW this is a Bengali movie, Juice was in Hindi.
