Those Thanos hostage situations had to play out the way the did [Except the Dr. Strange and kinda Peter ones] because it would otherwise undo entire character arcs. Thor and Loki finally reconciled in Thor Ragnorok. Gamora and Nebula finally reconciled in GotG2. They would never sacrifice each other after that. But if Thanos showed up earlier, those hostage situations would play out vastly different.
@arn13456 жыл бұрын
And we see him kill Gamora who he truly loves (in his own twisted way) as a daughter. A big theme in the movie was SACRIFICE, and how the villain was willing to do it while the heroes were not. Thus the villain wins and the heroes lose. It's hamfisted as far as general cinema goes but for a comic book blockbuster movie it worked pretty well.
@sporeceress14655 жыл бұрын

Also man this movie just further established that Asgardians are the Namekians of the MCU. A supposed super people who are stronger than humanity, who exist solely to be killed, conquered, and have their powers used to deus ex machina us.
@yoursonisold87436 жыл бұрын
Except Namekians were never strong. Like... there is maybe 1 fighter every 3000 farmers. And those aren't even Krillin level.
@li-limandragon92876 жыл бұрын
Are you kidding? Namekains are biggest survivors in DBZ, they came back from having their planet wrecked three times compare that to Planet Vegeta which got turned into space dust and never came back. Asgardians are the Saiyans Plus the super Nameks can go giant and wreck everything, a technique they learned early while only one freaking Saiyan learned how to go SS before Goku.
@yoursonisold87436 жыл бұрын
Not only can strong Sayians make fake moons to force the transformation, even their tails regrow over time (as seen with Goku and Gohan). It doesn't matter whether Namekians can regenerate, if an Oozaru blasts their heads off. You just can't compare an unbelievably strong Namekian like Piccolo/Kami to a normal Namekian warrior, just like you can't compare Super Saiyan Goku to an average Saiyan warrior.

I read something recently that gave me perspective on how these guys feel the "Oh no he's just a kid" feeling for spiderman while I, the actors same age, see him as a regular guy. The reading I did was about children's books like coraline and how it terrifies adults but exhilarates children. It's cause the children see the character as one of them. When the character faces danger they're being brave and heroic. For older people they see someone too young and they're scared for them in the situation.

Well Bucky at the very least wasn't used to aliens yet. He even asked Steve if they are little green men from space (like they imagined back in WWII). I feel most people overlooked that line. Of course Bucky saw a guy who can turn into the size of an ant or freighter, a guy in a flying bucket with lasers, a magic machine that can phase through stuff and a woman that can move shit with her mind, so it's not that special anymore.

Whilst Thanos's motive may not have been the most subtle or nuanced, it's nice to have a villain who ended up exactly where he wanted to be, watching the sunset over an ungrateful universe. The impact he had will probably mostly be undone in a year's time, but it's a welcome change from Marvels nothing villains (Along with Killmonger). Also Brolin fucking nailed it.
@tymelthompson41826 жыл бұрын
Josh Thompson I dont mean to jump on the Black Panther bandwagon but while Killmonger didnt live to see what he succeeded in he definitely left a lasting impression on the protagonist. He proved T,Challa and every single one of the previous Black Panthers wrong about isolationism and made T'Challa a better king for it. He is unique in the fact that even though he was an extremist he was absolutely right and his legacy actually made a difference.

Unless there's something in the lore to imply that the Infinity Stones apply some kind of passive effect, I'd like to point something out... Whenever Thanos is using the Stones, they glow. I can't recall a single time that wasn't the case. So with that being so, the Power Stone WASN'T glowing when Thanos defeated the Hulk in the opening scene of the movie. That means the Hulk has a LEGIT reason to be terrified because he was defeated WITHOUT using the Stones.

@Bleeperblopper4976 жыл бұрын
+ProNoobGamerDude That type of weapon is called a "Maul" and that word has two definitions
@Enzo_Matrix926 жыл бұрын
Stormbreaker is Beta Ray Bills hammer but the movie version the hammer/axe part is just Ultimate Thor's weapon. The groot handle is movie only. Pretty much a amalgamation of everything.
@Robscott55986 жыл бұрын
actually, the head of the "hammer" resembles the Ultimate comics Mjlonir, the name is StormBreaker which is a nod to Bill's hammer, AND...the handle made from Groot's arm resembles the haft of Jarlborne, Thor's Celestial/God killing axe that he wielded before he was worthy of the hammer. So they basically made it into a homage or an amalgam of all the different weapons he has wielded in comics besides the original Mjlonir.
@Nabs-xd2qr6 жыл бұрын
Robscott5598 I believe the hammer was called Stormbringer but I wish they had a norse name for it. It's definitely the ultimate hammer and I expected Thor to build it in Ragnarok but this definitely made sense here. Also I do want to point out that wood has magical properties and is special in norse mythology especially I think, due to the world tree Yggdrasil. I didn't know about Jalborne or Thor having a hammer before Mjolnir. Cool stuff man 👍

I think Thanos issue was that he so firmly believed in the righteousness of his cause and methods that he refuses to consider alternatives. If he was really that concerned about the finite nature of the universe he could fix that with a snap of his fingers.
@SonicMegaKing6 жыл бұрын
Can he? Some people say Reality Stone, but the change in reality requires the Gem's presence. Then again, I don't know how having all the stones lets you dust half the population of the universe, so who knows what you can do with the things? Thanos apparently did, and whatever else he could do he thought wouldn't work.
@bryanadkins67766 жыл бұрын
The stones allow him to re-write reality as he saw fit. With a snap of his finger he could cure every disease, fill every starving belly and restore every depleted energy source. Thanos, I think, was mentally broken by the death of his people. In his mind wiping out the population is the "only" way now, because it was the "only" way *then*. Keep in mind, that he was cruising around the galaxy murdering half of a planet's population long before he got a hold of the gems so he definitely fixated on this idea being the best, most reasonable course of action.

EbonMaster tbh i forgot about the ppl dying from the stones thing. What about big dick mcstar boy himself? He didnt die that one time, he coulda actually made use of himself.

I dont think a villain thinking he's right makes him a good villain, i think that when a villain makes you say "man, he's not wrong" is what makes him a great one. The thing about population and resources is as real as it gets, and of course i dont support the way he tries to fix it but i can at least understand why he reached that conclusion, because it makes perfect sense. Being evil of the sake or being evil is the worst and doing evil shit for "the greater good" without an idea that makes sense only makes it empty. This is why Makoto Shishio is my favorite villain of all fiction.

I'm kinda pissed that nobody points out the flaw in his plan. Namely, he will always have to kill half forever for his plan to work.
@garywintle80236 жыл бұрын
Pure evil villains can be interesting if they have a dimension to them that is cerebral and curious. Its why Chthon is much more interesting than Mephisto. Chthon is evil but also a scholar seeking knowledge and is fascinated by humans. Mephisto is just a camp Saturday morning baddie.
@jjj77905 жыл бұрын
+suddenllybah It works both ways. If his plan was doubling resources, he'd have to keep doubling resources forever for his plan to work, as well as continually expanding space to fit those resources.

i'm fine with what starlord did since Dr strange knew it was going to happen

Jack of All Vamps Absolutely. Notice how Strange doesn't tell him to calm down or do anything to restrain him?
@li-limandragon92876 жыл бұрын
Maybe, I doubt Star-Lord's anger factored in the all the possible futures. Also Strange was busy using his power to restraining Thanos himself.
@mrrdirty61986 жыл бұрын
Li-Li Mandragon I think Strange knew about the anger, because after he gives the stone to he tells Tony that, "This was the only way."

I wonder why Nick Fury didn't bring in Punisher, Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist for this shit. You can't tell me Fury didn't know they were around. And they are, albeit barely, connected to the movies, just like Agents of SHIELD.

Everyone can take out Hulk. Disney made him a wimp who gets beat by everyone so even someone like Hawkeye or Widow could take him.

@thefashionpolice34536 жыл бұрын
+Note's Scrotes Merking half the universe itself was enough to break the infinity gauntlet, infinite resources is another can of worms. Not to mention Thanos was convinced by the tragedy of Titan that it was the only way to achieve perfect balance in the Universe.

When you think about it, if Thanos was actually smart he would have snapped his fingers and reduced the birthrate by 50% and then nobody would even have noticed that he did anything.

Plague Doctor D the thing is that they both have a goal of mass genocide, but one guy’s is based of pure hatred and the other a more “greater good” kind of thing.
@dantr146 жыл бұрын
Brian. Jr Montoya it’s not even genocide for thanos he erased everyone at random regardless of who they are
@dmitrilong69546 жыл бұрын
Brian. Jr Montoya Killmonger was absolutely right that the system was evil and oppressive he just chose an extreme solution. There is a reason a lot of people agree with him tho. It's the idea that the world is too broken to fix so you gotta just erase and start fresh. The thing is Eric himself was kinda a broken person so he would of been just as much of a problem as ruler.
@brian.jrmontoya32276 жыл бұрын
D'Mitri Long he had a point to be sure, but as you said, his methods and hatred were extreme, and he wouldn’t have made for either a good king, and would have wiped out millions of innocents. He had a point in his ideals, but it doesn’t excuse the means of attempts in achieving it and the stuff he did.
@dantr146 жыл бұрын
D'Mitri Long I would say the difference is that at I can tell that he is doing it as revenge and out of spite but thanos feels like he honestly believes every word he says with no ill will intended but he has (in his own mind) no other choice

The surviving asgardians were not on the half of the ship that was shown in the movie. That's the side that was killed, they just didn't Thor and Loki yet because Thanos wanted to Tesseract. They don't explain what happens to the other side of the ship, but don't assume it's just destroyed.
