Remember this test was done in 2001-2002, when mercedes were playing playing around active brake assist. Volvo have been playing around brake assist since 2011, and introduced on their models recently.

The problem are not the brakes, the problem is the tired, sleeping, wanking or eating driver, who is forced by inhuman schedules, rules etc.

This is far better than the Volvo version because the horn is activated!

With that amount of inertia, the truck would just skid and crash. its about not brakes anymore, its about the law of physics.

The difference is the newer one mashed the brakes at about the same distance from the car's bumper, but the car wasn't moving in the new one. The car moving is adding additional stopping distance that the newer system doesn't need.

A lot of us have seen the Volvo brake test, and it's by far the best out of the two, I love Volvo's, in my opinion they make the best trucks and buses in the world but we must remember that the system on this Mercedes, and the truck itself is older than the Volvo FH video, the FH is a brand new truck with the latest technology, whereas the Merc is the earlier generation, so obviously the technology won't be as good, however it is a good example of how technology in trucks can advance so quickly

Different system. In Volvo trucks the system actually brakes the truck by itself at one point, while on a Mercedes the driver still got to put the foot on the brake before the system can initiate the emergency auto-stop. Am I the only one to notice that this Mercedes truck goes way faster during the brake test (about 15 mph more I would say) than Volvo's one in the other video ? And yes I'm pretty sure that this Mercedes truck is fully loaded ... not Volvo's one ...

THe volvo test is from an newer truck this is an old video, dont think you can compere em as equals

Open your eyes: this Mercedes is running faster and on dusty road. It obviously cannot slow down as fast as Volvo (where you came from) :)

If you read description in volvo video, you can see it is fully loaded. What would be the point of testing empty trailer?

you compare the new volvo brake system (developed in 2011-2012) with the system of an MB MP2 (developed 2003), thats redicilous... meanwhile MB has got 2 new generations...

Volvo's safety is their #1 priority, trust me volvo is safer.

This is not a 2013 Mercedes.. its alot older.. if you look there ---> you will se how a 2012 looks. how the system is on the new one compaired to the volvo i don't know.

Where is the difference both have a similar braking point. Both react way too late. In the S class of mercedes you have a intelligent system wich already slows down if the front car is slowing down as well and that from up to 100 meters away. So you get a slowly consistent slow down/braking and not in the last movement. With such emergency breaking you will just end up with someone from behind hitting you in the back because this car/truck might not have such a system and cant react in time.
