I was at one of the Lamour shows with Wasp/Met/Saint. I don't think anyone thought Metallica was going to be anything more than a short lived bar band. But their fans were rabid and loyal.

Love these stories man! I saw that W.A.S.P. , Metallica, Armored Saint tour in January 85 in Ottawa Canada. Met Chris Holmes from WASP who gave us his sweaty fake blood towel after the show 😝. Couple months later I wore my WASP shirt to a thrash show in Montreal ( Exodus, Metal Church and Slayer) and almost got my head kicked in by French thrash dudes. Good times!

I love the stories man. I wasn’t around for the 80’s, so your stories are great. I remember hearing about the ‘85 W.A.S.P./Metallica tour. There’s a small venue in Cincinnati that I go to, and they just recently posted old photos from that tour stop in Cincinnati. The venue still operates and looks as it did in the photos. Wild to think bands that big played clubs at one time.

I remember the "clash" between the glam and thrash metal bands/fans and after awhile it faded,basically because we all loved the same music,influenced by the same bands and after it was all said and done,we had more things in common than not,at least as far as I was concerned.......

Metallica WAS an acquired taste! I HATED them when I first put on my friend’s “Master of Puppets” tape. I hadn’t even heard about them until that album came out. But by the end of the tape I was like, “whoa, I wanna hear that again” and that was it. Then I borrowed my other friend’s “Ride the Lightning” LP and made a cassette copy. I loved it! Then the $5.98 EP came out and I actually bought that one and LOVED it! I bought “Kill ‘em All” next and a t-shirt then bought tickets for Van Halen’s Monsters of Rock show featuring Metallica. It all started via the old day’s equivalent of “file sharing”.

Hey are you aware of the Mark Weiss photo mystery? He took a photo of Tawny Kitaen and an unknown local rocker in NYC in 1987. No one can identify him. Maybe you can? There are several photos of them in a video on “waste some time with brian green” Mark Weiss interview

I used to be the biggest Metallica fan in middle school, and they were the first band I ever saw live back in 2017, but honestly once you get past the excitement of their speed and energy they're really kind of a sloppy band and i find i can't really get into them anymore. My go to for thrash right now would be Megadeth, excellent musicianship always but they also had such a sleazy street vibe on their early records, and the important thing is they were fast but they could still groove.

Posers are lame. You’re lucky you ran into Hetfield if it was Paul Baloff he would have set your hairspray wig on fire. Nothing worse than a guy in purple spandex, bracelets and aqua net. That whole hair scene was horrible

I love both thrash & glam.Also alot of death metal. Have always felt the Glam haters on thrash side came across as low class & bitter. Still to this day. The glam bands were simply going for something totally different. They werent making any apologies. The best of the best did very well for themselves. Thrash bands at their height were just as copycat & gimmicky w their B & C bands. The denim top,black shirt,ripped denim jeans & later white reebok high tops. Should thrashers really be thumbing their nose? Glam bands wore spandex,make up & teased their hair to appeal to women, be in all kinds of media & add a sexual element to their music. What exactly was the purpose of the thrash look? Why take exception to something completely different?
@Unleashedraider1985

@@kurth4255 Because they sucked & dressed up like woman. There was no purpose of a “thrash look” it was just wearing regular clothes & not being an 80s Bruce Jenner
