I love Josh's voice! Dulce is hilarious too! They both have a beautiful contagious laugh. They're making me hungry for some pie!! Pumpkin, sweet potato, pecan, or fruit pies are all delicious when you have a delicious flakey crust! The crust is very important as well as the spices and not too much sugar.

LOL, I'm Black and from the south and my Mom served pumpkin on Thanksgiving but when I grew up I mentioned pumpkin pie to my friends and they laughed at me. I almost lost my Black card that day. Sweet potato all day, e'ry day.

I used to only eat pumpkin. Because I did not know better. Then I moved in with my best friend and discovered the difference. Yum!!! LOVE this show!!! And, home made is Much Better!

In my sweet potato pie baking experience, I don’t get much strings from the smaller, rounder sweet potatoes. Those long ones are string city and are just awful in general. It really depends on the quality of the sweet potatoes. Plus, I baked my sweet potatoes, not boil.

Whether you can eat fruit on a diet depends, in part, on the fruit. Some are mostly water or have lots of fiber, while others, especially the ones we've bred to be super sweet, are almost like eating candy. This is also why so many fruit juices aren't healthy options- they start with tons of sugar, then remove all the fiber in the juicing process.

I grew up with pumpkin pie from the store, but my family is West Indian so we definitely weren't eating sweet potato pie until my sister started making it when we were older. I still prefer pumpkin, but Bojangles... their little sweet potato handpies send me.

Dulcé, I do love you, however there was one incorrect statement you made. Sweet potato pie is lighter in color than pumpkin pie. Otherwise, you were correct on all fronts. Lastly, the trick to keep sweet potatoes from being stringy is to mix it in a blender instead of with a hand mixer. Your pie will be smooth every time!

I have no dog in this fight coz I’ve never eaten either of these pies as I’m not American and they are not part of my culture. But can I just tell a story about sweet potato? During World War ll, when the Japanese Empire occupied large sections of North and Southeast Asia, there was widespread food shortage. There was no more rice. Everyone survived on sweet potato because it could be grown everywhere and grown quickly. My eldest aunt was born in 1937; she was a 5 year old girl when the Occupation began and 8 years old when the Japanese surrendered. And yet, even when she was in her 70’s, she could not bring herself to eat sweet potato. She just smiled wistfully and said to me, “no lah, I’m sick of it already.” She’s passed away now, but I remember how she was always so strong and gracious when talking about the painful events of her past.

To get the strings out of sweet potato pie, when peeling the sweet potato, cut a little deeper to remove the 'white layer under the peeling completely. The white layer IS THE STRINGS. Your potato should be a uniform orange when done. Thanks to my mom I learned this secret. RIP MOMMY 😊

If you've ever stopped at The Varsity in downtown ATL and bought a fried pie, you will understand where I'm going. Back in the 80s, at a rural Southern outdoor arts festival there was a food stall where some wonderful ladies served a few types of fried pies. Sweet potato fried pie reigned supreme! No such thing as a pumpkin fried pie. 🤭 *drops 🎤 *

Anyone else catch the afrontedness, the absolute shock in Josh's eyes when Dulce said "I will steal your medical shoes." I grew up with homemade pumpkin pie, it was delicious. I don't know who's pie Dulce had, but they didn't make it right! However...once I had a homemade sweet potato pie, it was all over! Sweet potato pie is so rich and delicious!

I used to turn up my nose at trying any pie at all. So my mom eased me into it with sugar pie (pie crust sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. Then she made a bet that if she made a pie I would eat, I'd have to try three bites of four different pies of her choice. Then than sneaky, sneaky woman made me a 7 layer chocolate pie. It was phenomenal! The next week she tried me on apple pie, which I liked. The third week was lemon meringue pie, which is still one of my favorites to this day. The fourth week was sour Idaho plum pie, which I would make more often if I could get sour plums. The fifth week was pumpkin pie. Thanks, Mom. (I never encountered sweet potato pie until I was an adult and a local cafe did Pie Night. It's ok, but not what I was used to. I revisit it occasionally. My favorite new pie experience from that era was boisonberry pie.)

First, I want to say I think sweet potato pie is better. I would like to point out that the argument that they were hiding the pumpkin to get people to eat the pumpkin could easily be flipped to say they were trying to "jazz up" the sweet potato to make it sell better.
