Symptoms of a tight pelvic floor? Pelvic floor tightness can be sneaky.
I’ve found that subtle pelvic floor tightness can go hand in hand with a diastasis because the pelvic floor is compensating for the lack of abdominal connection which can increase tightness. This over time can play a role in increase TA tightness, which can perpetuate a persistent diastasis or belly bulge that doesn’t seem to want to improve. Ah, gotta love the chicken and egg concept when it comes to the body.​
How do you know if your pelvic floor is tight? I’m not talking about the really obvious, “oh, wow, this is tight,” but the subtle, “I think something feels a little off but I can’t figure out what it is.”

I like how you say that the pelvic floor is a compensator muscle. Because it’s in the middle usually from what i have read on physical therapy usually the tight pelvic floor is an issue brought on by weak surrounding muscles such as the glutes and abs which become weakened from sitting too often. So it makes since if a client comes and gets deep tissue released on the muscle the problem reoccurs in the future due to the surrounding muscles have not been strengthened. This leads to never ending cycle of release and never getting to the root of the problem, much like what happens in modern medicine treating the negative effect not the root of the problem

What about for men? I have frequency, slight pain in my sacrum and a constant feeling of numbness/ feeling like I can’t feel anything near my perineum and scrotum? Only thing that has helped at all is stretching but I still have constant sense to pee and or have bowel movements.

Omg. For the longest while I couldn't understand what was wrong. When standing up straight it's hard to breath all the way down and it feels like my stomach is being pulled down, but it's fine when I sit hunched over. I feel like this might be a combination of pelvic floor tightness, weakness and posterior pelvic tilt.

This is really clear and helpful info! Thank you. I have a question: can pelvic floor tightness also make it take longer to pee? Sometimes after the initial stream, I have to sit and wait and then more comes out.

The perineun is part of the pelvic floor. If you google Pelvic floor you can see an image of all the muscles :)

I have horrible coccydynia and have a hard time sitting. My obturatus internus is hypertonic. Does this mean my pelvic floor needs to relax? I also have a torn gluteus medius tendon so is that related?

Yes, your pelvic floor needs to relax. It could possibly be related. Both the pelvic floor and the glute medius can overwork to compensate for glute max weakness. The hard part will be strengthening the glute max without irritating your pelvic floor or glute medius. I would see a good Pelvic Floor PT for in-person help or if that is not an option you could do my Pelvic Floor Perfect Program (which is part of my All-Access Membership). I go through that issue in my program.

I suffer from feeling like I have a UTI, my doctor sent me to a urologist and they told me there about my tight pelvic floor, they sent me home with a "stemi" thing and it's a little thing that sends electrical shocks to the area, she said it's kind of like massaging the muscles so they can relax. I helps for a little bit but the feeling comes back usually after intercourse :/

You’re describing something similar to my experience with bladder pain syndrome…see if you can find a urogynecologist near you!

Hi! can you tell me the what causes me, pelvis area discomfort like, humming, vibration, and a little pain and abnormal egg white discharge, lower back pain sometime and one left leg shaking. And this condition happen after every 2 minute. All of these condition are happening together. Will it be cause by pelvic floor disorder or PGAD, or any serious issues, no history of medications, sexual activity, but i'm obese and in my 20s please tell me.

Sometimes when I stretch my legs or move them a certain way I feel like my lower back/pelvic seems like it is about to lock or something I can't really explain it. My body feels so tight and heavy and I'm on 28. Also when I'm on my lower back and lift my legs in air and back down slow my right (si joint?) Makes a popping noise everytime... what does this seem like? I need to find somebody kn my area who can really help me with all these issues

My pelvic floor is too tight and I'm struggling to loosen it up. I've done 2 therapy sessions so far and I'm depressed thinking about surgery.

Can a tight pelvic floor make an individual feel as though they constantly have a UTI? My wife has been struggling with uti symptoms but her uti tests have always been negative except one time.

In recurring urinary tract infections, do you think the tension or for that matter lack of of the PF would be relevant?

It could be. I have had people who have Urethroceles or the front of their pelvic floor is tight, get symptoms that seem like a UTI but their bacteria count is low. So the doctors can't figure out why and it begins a circle of it happening over an over until they figure out it is irritation from the above-stated issue.

I’m a distance runner and have had this issue for about a month. I’ve had to reduce my mileage significantly and cut out caffeine. The caffeine seems to make it worse. Any ideas?

They can! It can depend on a variety of factors. Hormones can also play a role as well!

Since I get a pain in my butt Area a day/s after working out my glutes. Could it be bc I’m using my pelvic floor and not actually my Glutes?

Possibly. Seeing an in person pelvic floor physical therapist sounds like it would be great for you to help determine what is going on with your pelvic floor.

I hope you don’t mind answering this, I am a male. I’ve recently for the first time ever really suffered bouts of premature ejaculation, not every time but definitely an increase. I have learned pelvic floor tension can contribute to this, I have recently gotten back into the gym pretty seriously and I’ve read this can cause tension, I’ve gotten really strong at adductor machine etc. I was masturbating the other day as I’m currently avoiding intimacy with my GF, and I felt on the edge pretty quickly, well that one didn’t last very long but I did it again soon after and when I applied some pressure and massage externally to my perineum I felt that feeling of being on the edge subside. Is it possible I had alleviated some tension with that perineum massage and that’s why I felt back to normal somewhat? Thank you for your time, sorry for the long one, I’m just really anxious to fix it

Urinary retention here... after many dr visits and tests, pelvic floor dysfunction was my end result. They want me to stop my bladder mess to help me pee (I'm scared to stop.) And they said to relax and try to pee... how more can I relax lol?? I feel fine . I just hope I can pee.. what's a good link for pelvic floor exercises.. I cannot afford physical therapy

I would try to hold exhalation and relaxing the pelvic floor like I wanted to pee or let a gas out. Paying attention to the periphereal vision and the senses in general. But do hear to professional opinion, like the link above.

Someone please help, My body can’t urinate and it feels like I forgot how too, and if do urinate it doesn’t flow it stops then it continues and it doesn’t t feel comfortable . what should I do and should I see a doctor(sorry about my English)

Seeing a doctor would be a good first step. Do you have a Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist you can go to? Sounds like you could possibly have some pelvic floor tightness and a good PFPT would be able to help you with that. If that is not what is going on they would be able to help you figure out the issue.

Tammy Butterfly it turns out it was just a uti I didn’t know that cuz last time I got a uti it wasn’t the same symptoms so just go check with a doctor

Hi, So I had a uti and it was bad I had to go to the doctor took antibiotics and it went but after the uti, i sometimes get deep butt pain but it’s rare and I have difficulty relaxing my pelvic floor when I want to pee, I have been doing Exercises To relax your pelvic floor that I saw on KZfaq, and I have been doing it for 2 weeks now and I used to do it twice a week, what should I do please help.

Core Exercise Solutions I’m sorry I have one more question is there an age of having tight pelvic floor or PFD, cuz I’m 15 and I want to check with a PFPT but I don’t want to look like a fool thinking I have this problem then they tell me I’m too young, but I am having symptoms so what should I do, and I’m sorry for bothering you again.

I have constant deep vagina pain. I recently had surgery to remove fibriods that were causing bladder spasm. Could my pelvic floor be tight.

hmmm. That's a pretty broad question. Pelvic floor therapy can mean a lot of different things. So, I wouldn't want to venture a guess without more information.

Tightening an already tight muscle will only lead to more tightness. So I do not recommend kegels if your PF is tight. You need to work on relaxing first.

If you have a shallow breathing pattern, which could contribute to anxiety by stimulating your sympathetic nervous system, then you are not expanding your pelvic floor with your breath. I find many people with a shallow breathing pattern can have tight pelvic floors (not all but a lot).

@@lineal6688 Just doing yoga will most likely not make your pelvic floor tightness go away. It depends on what exactly is causing your tightness (poor breathing mechanics, weak muscles, compensations, etc).
