Since I live in an apartment in a very quiet rural neighborhood I think these make more sense for me than the Eatons currently. They look really nice too.

Great review. I used to own a pair of Tannoy XT8F and the dual concentric driver provided some of the most razor-sharp imaging I have heard. And as you say, phenomenal sound staging too. As regards the pair you're reviewing then they would be a bit pricey for me if i were in the market for a small pair of monitors but of course, we all have varying degrees of 'pocket depth'! Thanks for posting!

I bought a pair of these Tannoys at the weekend there and they're very impressive for their modest size. They probably have about the same internal capacity in litres as traditional speakers 'bookshelf' like Linn Kans, but simply coming as a different form factor. I saw a video after watching yours where people were surprised to discover that it was the Tannoy Minis playing and not the larger Tannoys next to them. I thought that might have been a plant in the audience as the minis are so small but it's true, they do produce a much more room-filling sound than you'd expect - especially in a small room (4x3m ish) They seem to sound fairly similar to my Eatons but obviously, without the tangible pressure of the bottom end. I'm going to experiment with positioning and see where they sound best. I don't mind saying it but because the Minis are so neighbour friendly (I've got neighours on three sides of my living room), I might end up selling my Eatons as the Minis are practically plug and play... and enjoy! Tannoys without trouble, you might say. Great channel btw with a much-needed focus on small rooms :)

The Tannoy Eaton Legacy is a tough nut to crack when it comes to making them work in a small room - I should know because I'm currently in the process of cracking that particular nut, and I have been for a good few weeks! Great speakers though, bo doubt about it :)

Ha! Loved watching your review of the little Tannoy Mini’s. You described my MartinLogan CLS IIz electrostatic speakers to a “T” 😆, tho I bet the little Tannoys didn’t fry amplifiers in revenge ❤️‍🔥. Seriously, I saw Sonus Faber Electa Amator’s in your room during a Hegel H590 review. Are you planning to review the SFs? Pleeese? They’re in the running with the Dynaudio Heritage Special, Magico A1, and the Bowers and Wilkins 805. The SFs are the prettiest, that’s for sure. BTW, I thought the little Tannoys were gorgeous. Like a toy Westminster. My favorite sweater is in the same fabric as that fabulous fifties grill.

Hi Dan, thank you for the kind words 😊 I did a short comparison to the SF AIII in my Dynaudio Heritage Special Review, hopefully that’s useful. To be honest, reviewing high end bookshelf’s is actually a bit harder - they all tend to be fantastic, so it’s down to personal taste. If you can get to a dealer and listen to them I think that’s probably the best way to decide. All top choices btw! 👍

suggest that if you can listen to a well burned in pair of Tannoy Revolution XT Series. I own both the XT6 and the XT mini. The XT Mini is my go to model as it uses the smaller 19 mm tweeter diaphragm where the XT6 (and all other models in the XT series) use a 25mm tweeter diaphragm. The smaller 19mm diaphragm integrates much better. The XT Series are imo the very best DC speaker Tannoy has ever produced. On very good stands with proper interface and with top class electronics they are stunning. I hope this is of interest. I have a friend with the LS50 Meta and another with Blades and I think the Tannoy XT Mini shine. The XT Mini will play lower than your Autograph Mini do so they will be easy to integrate with sub(s). Thanks for your video.

I own these beauties since 2015 and I still love them. Sometimes I pair them with a small active subwoofer (not when I listen to Classical) and result is actually very pleasant. Now, I'd like purchase this new GR model, I find it more elegant and nice than the mine (dark wood). It means I must add about 690-700GBP to exchange old with new. Hard question: beside aesthetics, please do you know if this current model could be better or improved in some performances vs the previous Autograph? The change would be worth the expense? TKS!!

Hello @Small room audio, nice review, happy that I found your video as I am thinking of getting theese speakers for quite some time now but have no chance to listen to them before buying so would like to know if you are keeping yours? And are they worth the money? Or there are better options to put that 1000 to? Thank you
@SmallRoomAudio
@SmallRoomAudio 3 жыл бұрын
Hi sats87 I still have mine at the moment - they are definitely worth £1100, the soundstage and imaging is exceptional and I haven’t heard anything near it at the price point. However, you have lots of great alternative options, it depends on what aspects you value most in sound. If it’s musicality, check out the neat iotas, if it’s dynamics I’d be looking at the Klipsch RP600m etc. When you’ve done all the research and you think it’s the right one for you, I think - screw it - just go for it and if it’s not what you like you can always send them back!

Hello ! Keep up the great work !! 👏 Do you believe these would compete with something like Harbeth P3Esr, Falcon acoustic and other Ls3/5a ?
@SmallRoomAudio
@SmallRoomAudio 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you 🙏 It’s a different type of presentation - The Tannoy wins for soundstage, and sounds a little bit bigger, but a P3Esr is a master of midrange and tone, easily besting the tannoy in that dept. I’ve not owned a falcon Ls3/5a but would imagine it’s a similar story. Hope that helps.

I would get a set purely for its optical design, as a piece of art / complimenting furniture “if” I would be into this. If I would like to have the Tannoy sound and more bass I would buy their far cheaper studio monitor made according to the same principles.

I owned Monitor Audio Gold 100’s, the last version with ribbon tweeters, for three years. Detail and soundstage champions! Great, deep, punchy bass for their size and very dynamic. Gorgeous, top notch cabinetry on all faces - the piano ebony finish is stunning! Cons: Sound gets a little hollow above the tweeter axis; sometimes there’s a slight recording dependent metallic flavor noticed in the upper midrange and treble; and the treble can be go beyond detailed and become a little relentless on some recordings. Matching with relaxed sounding amps and/or sources would be ideal. Tubes would be great as the speakers are quite sensitive and very responsive, even at low volumes. Good luck and enjoy.

That speaker box is a very poor design for bass reproduction. How can you produce any bass when the back of the speaker is narrowed to a sharp angle in the back? That kills bass ! A normal larger rectangular box would have been a lot better for bass reproduction. Not worth that kind of price.
