Yes I had a couple of pairs concertos a really big sound needs a lot of tweaking by which I mean the right amp the right positioning you can get an incredible performance out of them Definitely rotate and tighten up the base driver and the mid range driver that’s a win-win

Well I kinda don’t feel these speakers want a valve amp in particular they already delicate and kind of valve like Often I find you don’t want to double up on a certain quality

As far as vintage Japanese it’s gonna be one of my Sansui amps or receivers the Sansui 331 receiver as have some magic so it doesn’t have a lot of power doesn’t bother me

I just set it up today when I noticed your reply to my previous message to you. What a coincidence , I know it's not as powerful as the 7 or the 8 but it sure sounds really nice really nice.

It’s all right :) For monitoring probably a no go as they are too bright and bass is boomy but not actually deep. But for music listening probably would be fine. Upper mid is also a bit lifted so female vocals might sound a bit like coming through a tube…. But I’ve heard people say that about other tannoys. But yeah for the price it’s a good deal

Pretty much yes I had that speaker and I wish I never sold it you need to tighten up the drivers they are often loose

@@stereoreviewx Many thanks for your reply - I am vacillating! I spotted them in a local charity shop for £120 and resisted the impulse buy! ( they had Sabre 2s for months which I resisted) Plan to lovingly & carefully restore cabinets and crossovers, enjoy them for a while and maybe make a profit. I am currently restoring a NAD c370 and would love to see you review one if you get the chance.

That would be surprising bc the label says manufactured in the UK. If portions of a component are made elsewhere the label would say “assembled”.

@@scrambaba It could be the case that the label ''Manufactured in the UK" means the whole item was designed, engineered and assembled in Great Britain but it might not be the case, depending on the type of legal regulations that applied at the time the item was manufactured. There are certainly gaps and loopholes in labeling regulations generally and a decreasing number of products are entirely made from start to finish in the UK, Europe, America, Canada, Australia and other first world countries. Who made what and where has become very complicated, with China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, India and other third world countries doing much of the engineering and/or assembly of well known brand name products, that may have been designed by companies in their original home countries. Most brands are actually owned by large multinational companies, who simply stick brand names on new generic products that are made in the same big factories from components that may be locally made or sourced from other countries. They often use some design variations to create a range of essentially similar products, for more efficient and cost effective mass production, making them more affordable. It is also common these days for companies in the UK for eg. to make their high quality, high price items in the UK, their mid price items partly at home and partly overseas and cheaper items entirely made overseas. That's the complex modern world of globalised manufacturing and we don't always know what is going on with all the products we see these days and what the labels really mean.

@@stereoreviewx works either way lol. I was thinking of an old TV comedy sketch which opens with passengers struggling to understand an announcement over the tannoy in a railway station. It then cuts to the station announcer's office. Station announcer comes off the mic to talk to a colleague and of course their normal speaking voice is exactly the same as heard over the tannoy ie distorted and unintelligible. Think it may have been 'Not the 9o'clock News' but I'm probably wrong. Anyone know the sketch?

Yeah you couldn’t call them all around us that’s true and they don’t have a welly but they have here in detail it’s quite lovely and engaging for the money you can get more from other speakers I guess
