I love that she makes the bridge the most emotionally vulnerable moment of the song. And then she whispers the tagline of the song at the end of the bridge as if she’s whispering it directly to him *chef’s kiss* and the adlibs at the end are just 👏🏼✨

It’s so good to see you (straight, white, handsome man etc etc) appreciate the beauty & technical expertise of this song! ‘Cos it is SO. DAMN. WELL. WRITTEN! Your appreciation of Taylor’s ability (especially given your profession & musical performance style) is something more people should notice, ‘cos her songs aren’t just “soppy teen crap” by many, many miles, they are well written, beautifully put together works of art. Shakespeare wrote beautiful sonnets, also masterfully, Taylor Swift writes beautiful, well crafted songs! Thank you🙂🌸💖 and Happy New Year, love from Annie, in Cornwall, UK.🌸

The actor in the video is Scott Eastwood, and they’re filming a movie together on set in Africa back in the 50’s-60’s, they have a great time together and do get together. At the “movie premiere” her character finds out that he is married and she’s crushed. Proceeds truly go towards African and animal charities. Fantastic song and official video.

I'm not a romantic person at all but this song makes me want alllll of the romance. I just want to be swept off my feet and whisked away. Only while I listen to this song. Once it's over, I'm like.. ok. I'm me again. But she definitely transports me to wanting ALL of what she's saying in this song. Not to mention all the musical aspects of it. The layering, her voice. Her clear voice is in the background but her breathy voice is in the foreground. And of course - her bridges.

Love hearing you talk about the prosody in this lyric. Taylor bends lyrics in a non-prosody way and yet always makes it work. She can make the word "A-gain" so emotional. Your comments about the crafting of the lyrics and topline are superb. Taylor is a mastermind. This is why they're now teaching a course on her song writing at HARVARD! Thanks for putting your songs at the end of these reactions and good pitch to support the band.

I made memories to this song in a relationship that was always going to end... so basically what the song is about which is why we picked it as our song lol... I kick myself every time I hear it now. "Someday when you leave me I bet these memories follow you around, you'll see me in hindsight, tangled up with you all night, burning it down, someday when you leave me I bet these memories follow you around" is like a gut punch no matter how many times I hear it.

If you want great conceptual song writing from Taylor, one of her best has got to be 'Right Where You Left Me' which is one I think you would definitely love as an artist yourself.
