How blessed we were in those days to have such great TV shows-good clean, family oriented, fun, entertaining, and no politics.

As a LONDONER CAROL, thanks for seeing the great gift he had🙏💪🎬 he was married to Mrs Frankinstin Lancaster Lisa, and she recorded lots of Bawdy Cockney songs, you can find, he also Knew star quality as it was him that got Mureen O'Hara her start, in the Jamaica Inn, oh yes and he also bigged up ERROL Flynn. Cheers I needed to get that out THANKS FROM LONDON 😍🇬🇧💯🙏 AIDAN if that were me I would have deleted it by now.🤫🆘😉😘🥺😢😜💗🆘

Thanks for posting. I'm english /half Italian. My dad loved movies, good movies, great actors. I grew up watching these with my dad. What fu to see Charles Laughton one of the finest actors to ever grace the screen having some fun and duetting with Tennessee Ernie Ford was just a delight. We have no access to these clips, thank you very much for posting. Made me chuckle. Made me smile.

Recommend the film, "Hobson's Choice", 1954. Incredibly well done, with the amazing David Lean directing. Cheers !

I grew up being drawn to Ford's voice. December, 1959, I danced with my new girlfriend for the first time, but not the last. We married in 1963. She still wants to dance together, but my legs don't work so well anymore. Maybe in Paradise. 61 years and counting... [BTW, I only mentioned 1959 because that's the year of this clip]

You're mad. He's one of the funniest comedians ever and a great natural actor.
@madhabitz5 ай бұрын
@@elizabethcsicsery-ronay1633 Not mad, just never knew this side of him. I was a little kid in the 50s and I loved Ernie Ford (his voice!), but if I ever saw Laughton in this light, I have zero recollection of it. I really couldn't stand him in the movies, but I was aware that he was touted as one of the greats. Mutiny on the Bounty is the one I remember most and might be why I had these feelings about him -- he was really good at playing a despicable guy. I'm curious about him being a comedian. I'll have to see if I can find some of his movies -- I bet I've seen plenty of them over the years and have just forgotten. Still and all, this bit with Ernie Ford is something that feels out of left field.
@elizabethcsicsery-ronay16335 ай бұрын
@@madhabitz I'm sorry, you never knew this side of him. He's a rollicking comedian. Yes, but he was a fantastic villain as Captain Bligh. You have to be a good actor to be so hateful. You're not supposed to be able to stand him in that role.Watch The Private Life of Henry VIII, it set the pattern for how to play that king forever. He's very funny. Also funny in Hobson's Choice. The best for me is excerpts from the never completed epic I, Claudius. His Claudius is so affecting. He was really and truly Rembrant in the movie of the same name. Even when it's not a comic part, he's funny. One of the greatest actors of all time.

@@madhabitz If he could play a villain that you hated so much, didn't that mean it was convincing acting?

Oh the look on Mr. TEF' s face when Mr. Laughton whistled...my husband thinks I'm ready for an asylum...(I miss good shows like this :( I was around to catch The Carol Burnett show, being born in the late 70's, but barely! One of the biggest reasons why I don't watch tv anymore. It's basically all trash.)
