Balance is the ability to keep the body under control while swinging and is fundamental to any swing. Loosing control of the body in the middle of your stroke will certainly lead to a less than optimal result. These simple exercises will help you develop the smooth and effective swing you have always wanted.

Love the wisdom here. Great teaching. I like to practice paying guitar standing one leg. Also, try to play the piano sitting on one buttock. Putting in golf standing on one leg. Balance activates the cerebellum, a walnut-sized part of the brain above the brain stem (spine). It activates the whole brain.

I agree about power of balance, as I teach completely focused on finding and maintaining balance in all aspects of play. However while I focus on the head at some point in this scenario of balance, much greater emphasis should be placed on feet first. The head comes into play as a result of positioning and posture. Posture is a great problem and as a result few students can keep head still!
@GiffenigTennis

Agree! It is hard to stay still if you are not in position. Trying to keep your head still is a very practical way to test for ideal distance to the ball

Hi, unfortunately anticipation is mostly acquired by playing a lot. The more you play the better you start to understand the probable responses to different situations. However, having a teacher watch you play and explain what to expect in different situations could shorten the learning process.

If you try to improve balance in swinging you should swing for real, striking the ball from the legs up with proper rotation. The girl is just hitting with her arm trying to make sure not to risk her ”balance”! She doesn’t even turn her head to the contact as she doesn’t turn her upper body away from the court on those forehands. What a farce.
@EP-yc2gu

Yeah. I don’t get it. Seems like it would be much more helpful to swing normally and try to be balanced all the way thru the finish
@AlexanderGr8

Yeah I agree with you. She’s frightened to rotate in case it falls off.
