I try to stay loose but I feel I loose some control and often frame the ball - should keep staying loose thourgh whole shot stick to it and control will come with time?

You are probably moving your head too early trying to accelerate. Whenever you feel your racquet moving it is usually not because you are not holding it tight enough but because you are not watching the ball well enough. Keep practicing staying lose but make sure your head stays still and you watch your racquet hit the ball.

You would have to hit the ball with a little more acceleration and swing under the ball with a swing path resembling a shallow "U"

Great session Edgar. One issue that I have in matches- on pressure points when trying to keep good margins from the baseline I end up hitting a lot of balls short mid court and handing the opponent attacking opportunities. Any drills/ mental approaches you can recommend for this?

In general, you have to get into a habit of hitting the ball high over the net. Aim 3 to 5 feet over the net. That way you will hit the ball deeper and minimize net mistakes.

For club players as myself, he problem is to know to which side to turn during a rally. Usually one realizes the side the ball is going to, then run to meet the ball and the final move is to set up the stroke.

Part of the learning process is learning to read the flight of the ball better. With time it will be easier to decide earlier which way the ball is coming.

The leg drive does play a major role also. l remember a time where l was too much all arm and swinging fast. The teaching pro stopped me and talked about weight distribution back to front. Then, l was definitely able to hit the ball harder. Also shouldn't the wrist though relaxed stay firm a little longer just to allow for a contact point slightly more out in front? To just swing and let the wrist go is a strategy that can be perfected. But look at a Djokovic forehand in slow motion. The wrist is extended forward just a little longer.

This is very helpful! For me, the forehand volley is more difficult than the backhand volley. Can you please do a video on sticking the forehand volley, especially when the ball is at shoulder height? Thanks.
@GiffenigTennis
@GiffenigTennis Жыл бұрын
The most important aspect of a shoulder high volley is to hit the ball with the whole arm, mainly from the shoulder. The wrist should remain firm.
