It was a stunt double actually, sorry to say. They cut to Arnold on the hood of the truck firing for a split second but the wide shot is the double. It's still awesome nevertheless!

It's really remarkable how many iconic scenes are not only from this movie, but also just how perfectly paced the climax of the movie is. The escape from Cyberdyne, the helicopter chase, the semi chase, the liquid nitrogen freezing scene, the fight in the foundry. It all blends together seamlessly, and manages to stay gripping the whole way, never falling victim to the "numbness" that modern action movies so often do. Where the spectacle is too far removed from reality, with silly physics or characters surviving the unsurvivable. The stakes were still straightforward, the logic of the time traveling hadn't yet become so convoluted that the narrative was bogged down by it, like in later sequels. It was just so many good ideas packed into one creative powerhouse movie.

Has to be one of the best made action films ever on so many levels, that T800 climbing up the truck , crouching down and unloading a full mag into that pile of liquid jelly metal.... epic.

This is the kind of stuff that's missing from a lot of modern action sequences. Cameron gives us a great sense of both the geography of the scene and the choreography of the cars and actors. It's a dance but you can visually follow where everyone is and what's happening. In contrast, too many action sequences these days are a mess of shaky cam and over-edited fast cuts that only serve to confuse the audience. There are a lot of fast cuts here but they almost always cut on motion to keep things smooth and keep the audience properly oriented. If you ever want to learn how to do a proper action sequence, just watch any of the many ones in this film.

Always struck me as how ungainly the T-800 chassis was, even if that was very much Cameron’s intention. “The Abrahams tank (T-800) versus Porsche (T-1000)” analogy.

@@willarterberry3392I think the meaning was there was CGI used, but not everything in the film was done that way, like films today. They couldn't do it all CGI then anyway, because the technology was still at an early stage.

No matter how hard they tried, they couldn't get the real tanker to flip on its side. Hence why they resorted to miniatures, big miniatures nto be exact. The transition in shot is so perfect you can't even see the model.

Peter Kent actually spoke about this a few months ago and said they actually did flip the semi, but it was extremely difficult and many tons of re-bar and sand I believe had to be added to the tanker in order to achieve the flip.

Kyle Reese is the Terminator in this film Martha. That is why Sarah kept talking about the terminator being like a father to her son. Someone to protect him since his real father who she loved so much died trying to protect her.
