It's really remarkable how many iconic scenes are not only from this movie, but also just how perfectly paced the climax of the movie is. The escape from Cyberdyne, the helicopter chase, the semi chase, the liquid nitrogen freezing scene, the fight in the foundry. It all blends together seamlessly, and manages to stay gripping the whole way, never falling victim to the "numbness" that modern action movies so often do. Where the spectacle is too far removed from reality, with silly physics or characters surviving the unsurvivable. The stakes were still straightforward, the logic of the time traveling hadn't yet become so convoluted that the narrative was bogged down by it, like in later sequels. It was just so many good ideas packed into one creative powerhouse movie.

This is the kind of stuff that's missing from a lot of modern action sequences. Cameron gives us a great sense of both the geography of the scene and the choreography of the cars and actors. It's a dance but you can visually follow where everyone is and what's happening. In contrast, too many action sequences these days are a mess of shaky cam and over-edited fast cuts that only serve to confuse the audience. There are a lot of fast cuts here but they almost always cut on motion to keep things smooth and keep the audience properly oriented. If you ever want to learn how to do a proper action sequence, just watch any of the many ones in this film.

I recently watched Salvation and Genysis, there is nothing in those films that is even close to memorable like the action scenes in this. Hopefully Terminator Dark Fate wins us fans back.
