that’s so cool to see the founder of Art Journalling for Beginners.. I’m a member of that group. I don’t consider myself a beginner anymore so I don’t post much to the group.. when I first joined the group I was certainly comparing my work that looked like a kindergartner did to all the beautiful work on the page. But people in the group were very encouraging and inspirational..

Exactly what I needed today, and one of my biggest takes from this video is how you were not at all bothered by the mauve paint getting on additional pages and overspray from the paint cans hitting the edges of your journal. I need to get over any perfectionism thoughts and just do it

Love this!! Watched this yesterday on Patreon and was super motivated. It was refreshing to NOT be told you must have these paints, this paper, these brushes, etc....to make quality art!! I have been binge watching videos forever it seems and I personally have decided that ART is very personal, in journals or framed prints. If I enjoyed the process and result, then I have won!!! Hello Karen, your video was up this morning so I watched. So much fun! I am going to use your art journaling videos when watching the grandkids on spring break. I am older and have fallen into this blank page fear or uncut fabric block. And I don’t want my grandkids to fall into that. When you are not an everyday artist you can loose you skills. Sewing too. I made five sets of doll pj’s for Christmas for a cousin sleepover. I cannot believe how My skills had faded. So I am back to making myself sew some everyday. I have scads of art and craft supplies so I am going to collect them all up in bins. Put them outside on the patio and have art every day. Starting with making an art journal. Even for the younger kids. The 12 and 7 year old used do do art everyday but school and video games take up mor space. My grandson plays the bagpipes and we will be going to Scotland as soon as he is big enough to carry my bags, hahah. We are also only four hours from the Bob Ross Museum and they love him too. Thanks again and any pdf’s will be helpful for my kid (and personal) project.

For sure!!! But only when drawing "for real" sometimes just stamping a quote or making a mess is all good!! No reference (or skillzzzz) required is freeing!

Hi Debby, I'm 52 and had a brain injury a while back. It keeps me from having much confidence. But my husband is going back for his masters and I joined one of Karen's art classes. I'm just going to step up and do it! I've always been a stir in the middle of the journal kind of person. Always afraid I'm going to mess up the beautiful clean empty canvas. I'm sure we will be able to lift one another up. It will be a long time before I'm comfortable enough to post something. But I'm at least going to try. 🙂

Backgrounds are my weakness too. I've been making stamps out of cardboard and fun foam and just painting a plain background then stamping with my stamps and that's been helping. Some of them even look good hahaha. Another thing I started doing is just splattering my extra paint onto paper and making other random marks just to not waste left over paint and that has been making some interesting background pages. I was going to cut them up until my daughter pointed out the fact that they looked cool on their own. Hahaha. Hope that helps give you some new ideas. Making stamps and stencils is fun too. 🤗

Letting yourself go..release oneself! I have done this! Thanks to you and others on KZfaq! I sketch and have lines over drawn and I love this! Over sketching looks good! I love an over sketch then add watercolour! OMG Love it! The timid get it right first time has been given a licence to experiment . I love the look of over sketching verses using a pencil rubber to get it right!

I LOVE your energy. I’ve been wanting to try this for a while but I didn’t want to invest in a journal and then be dissatisfied because I’m NOT an artist (yet 😎). So this just gives me freedom to play and be messy. I might even let others create in my journal just to fight off my perfectionist and OCD traits. Embrace the crazy mess…that might be my title page. Just found this I could have used this 2 years ago. Love the energy. I'm a bead weaver who happens to love drawing woven looking pictures. I paint and I use colored pencils . Gel pens art pens of any kind I love ink. I love drawing with a med graphite pencil then make the lines bold with acrylic paint pens. I let expression freak me out. But art is what I have it's my souls language. I enjoyed this whole video today thank you

Well, you totally got me in! I didn't plan to watch the whole video but I did and now you've done it! I've told myself forever that I didn't have anything to "say" so I had no idea of anything to paint but, as I watched you do your backgrounds, I started getting ideas of what I would put on them. Other mixed media artists always say that they have no ideas in mind but it becomes obvious that they are working to a plan and that puts me off trying. So, thank you. I can't believe that I'm actually going to get my stuff out and have a go!
