I can verify your range use with AC on. 8:57 I had my Long Range Model 3 running all night (8 hrs) in 85 deg F weather and only used 25-30 miles of range for such a hot night. Running the heater in colder weather will use more energy than running the AC. Very good points all the way around. Using this 3-5 times over it's lifetime would pay for itself in hotel costs saved. Plus it's more of an adventure.

Tip: turn HVAC recirculate off while you’re sleeping. CO2 builds up in the cabin very quickly with it on. You can set it to off by putting the system in auto, then tapping the recirculate button until it isn’t blue or grayed out.

When I drove across country I slept in my 4Runner. I would find a gym I belonged to (free) or not and pay the daily rate. Most cases $5-10. This is where I would shower, relax in a sauna, hot tub/pool, work out etc. This worked out great. Brushing teeth is easy to do with water and standing outside the car. Also most Walmarts allow you to park and stay overnight. I would then use their bathrooms in the evening and morning as they were open 24 hours in most cases.

distantarray while this applies to RV’s and less for individual cars. Walmart’s near popular areas would not allow overnight parking. For Example: San Diego, CA or Houston,TX. I was never bothered once in my six week trip. I would park close to lot lights for security reasons and to blend in with what I thought were employee cars. I wanted to draw the least amount of attention and it worked out great. Maybe one day I will do it again in my Model 3 :)

Thanks for this review. I'm thinking about one for my Skoda Superb (it is by the way!) Combi. The tip about pressure points and using the provided pillows is good. I'm now starting to think about just designing my own version since the foam mattress doesn't seem brilliantly thick. How I wish I could keep the Skoda A/C on all night.I think it might be possible if I have the ignition switched on: presumably, just like at traffic light, the engine would cut out and only cut in briefly when the battery was detected low.. That would take getting used to while sleeping! It would probably be illegal on a public road too.

I have to scoot the drivers seat forward slightly to fold down the back seat. There’s about 6’ from the back of the trunk to the back of the front seat like that. The surface is uphill and not flat. I made my own out of a memory foam mattress pad in a sleeping bag but that does not compress down for storage very well. Next time I go camping I won’t need a tent.

It is a nice mattress, and perfect for the Tesla. It opens the door for new destinations for your car. (Campgrounds with charging). But I think they can make it for about $200.00 (including the sheets) and sell it for about $300.00. They would make more profit buy selling more of them because very few people are going to pay $700.00 for this.

This is neat and all, but how are you traveling with this mattress in your trunk, AND fitting all your luggage in as well? The driver's seats, and a limited amount of rear foot area are all that is available to store your luggage while you're using this. So it seems a little impractical. This is kind of why I can't give up my Toyota Rav4. I moved from Missouri to Nevada, towing a 6ft Uhaul, with my dog+crate, a cooler full of food, a weeks worth of clothes, and everything else I needed, inside my car without having to open up the Uhaul. And I still had room to sleep comfortably. The teslas also lack all of the useful features, that make it possible to hang a sheet to cover the windows, or store stuff on the ceiling(and the roof, for that matter). Really hoping the Model Y has a lot of these utility features, so I don't feel like I'm sacrificing a ton, just to drive electric.

I don't get why people, especially with Tesla's, don't buy a super lite pod. It's made by different manufacturers. They are usually cute. You get them with a kitchen or no kitchen. They are short and no wider than the car. They also pull very little energy from the Tesla. We didn't test it but it was like 2-5% more energy than just passengers only. Jessie should rent one and do a weekend excursion test and tell people how nice it was and how much energy was actually used over normal. Just do a GOOGLE SEARCH on TEARDROP TRAILERS. It's a lot more comfortable and if you upgrade the battery bank you can run the air conditioners on low or open the screened windows for cross ventilation.

The 'MyPod' trailer is a good option for MX owners. It only weighs ~530#. Torklift(?) offers a hitch for the Model S, but it raises warrantee issues.

My thoughts exactly. If the model 3 had a roof rack whereby a Thule container could be attached then it would make sense. Or if it could all fit inside the frunk, but with pillows I doubt it.

Their products have fantastic reviews but Dreamcase are unable to deliver (literally) to the UK - I am told by UPS that that they are unable to process my order through UK Customs due to the lack of proper export paperwork provided by Dreamcase. The company's ability to resolve this is has been poor and I'm still waiting for delivery !!!

I would seriously doubt it, unless at least 1 could be happy sleeping the driver or passenger seat, unreclined. This is a Model 3, not a vehicle that can accommodate a queen or king mattress.

I was very interested in this product until I saw the price. I bought an air mattress on Amazon for one tenth the price instead. The cost of the Dreamcase is way too many nights in an expensive hotel to justify the price.

Tesla needs to come out with an electric van already. Although sleeping in a car is doable, an electric van from Tesla would Revolutionize Vanlife. In the meantime, Tesla model 3 owners can always buy a lightweight camper trailers to tow. There are many companies like HappierCampers that make small campers that would be much more comfortable to sleep in than the back of a tesla model 3.

Tesla is the best camper. And a lot of free charging stations at Walmart which allows over night parking. I bring my dry flush toilet and pop up shower tent with me for long trips.

Just back from a ~6200 mile road trip from CO to Fremont (factory tour), up the coast to WA, then back. I slept in my model S several nights. A DreamCase was more $$$ than I wanted to spend so yeah, instead, think backpack-style camping with Therm-a-rest pads and a sleeping bag. A piece of rigid foam (building insulation) cut to fit the trunk floor solved the uneven floor issue. A piece of 1/8" fiberboard under the pads created support for my pillow. There were many places along the way where I wouldn't have felt safe so I visited RV parks for the night. I used their shower/potty facilities. If I needed to, their NEMA 14-50 spots are perfect for adding a few miles of charge. Many were full but, since all I needed was a level place to park, they happily offered up dry-camp parking spots. I used a Napier 61500 hatchback tent to help the ventilation/mosquito problems. Worked beautifully.

@@kurtjensen7264 Well, that NOW makes sense. I've RVed (recreation vehicle) for 40 years... when a LOT LESS folks did it. However, with THOUSANDS of folks "living" in vehicles ... or 'sleeping' while on short trips... that's Way Too Many for the original reason Truck Stop showers were constructed. Truckers practically live in their trucks.

A great and comprehensive review. You raise some good points. Especially it will pay for itself idea. When dream case Company launch a case for the Tesla model Y - that (for us) will be the ultimate dream case. As the boot space in the model Y is nearly identical to that of our model S and the model Y has SUV volume inside.
